  • A lot of students struggle to choose the "right" engineering major because of many factors. Common ones include the following:
    1. You have yet to discover what you like and dislike.
    2. There are so many disciplines that overlap and are difficult to understand without the necessary resources and guidance.
    3. Your interests lie in a plethora of areas.
    4. You are worried about things like job security, salary, etc.
The goal is to help anyone who is having trouble deciding between two very attractive majors - SOFTWARE and ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING - and who wants to learn more about these two disciplines.

Electrical is a lot more math and physics intensive but if you find interest in magnetism and electricity the do electrical!!

You should also mention that the job market for CS/Software engineering is very competitive and toxic. When in electrical engineering the average age for an electrical engineer is 40 years old which means in the upcoming years the job market for ee will be huge.

Currently an EE major trying to switch out of it. Looked at a ton of videos and this one broke it down the best. I loved the prestige section and because of that I'm now leaning more towards SE. Still can't decide which major to pick... it's literally your life. Still considering CE,CS but SE is my #1 right now.

Glad you found this video helpful! Deciding on a major is part of the college experience haha. You can't go wrong with any of those : )

This comment is a few months old but there's one thing you may want to consider.
An Electrical engineer can always become a software developer. You will take programming classes as part of your degree. A software developer cannot always become an electrical engineer as they are missing much of the rigorous math and calculations that go into designing electronics. If you can't decide you could choose EE. Or if you want a blend of both go with Computer Engineering.

@@circletech7745 I don’t think a software engineer would want to work in the electrical field, as that’s not their passion and the pay is lower.

@@galg4590 But that only solidifies it being the best of both world's, because you either learn both to some degree in CE or learn only the basics regarding EE when taking SWE or SWE when taking EE. People with CE degrees are still able to obtain SWE and EE roles at the likes of Apple and Tesla, if the caliber of job you obtain is largely the same, then you'll most likely end up learning more in your career then you would simply taking those upper-level courses.
