Skiing the Phantom Couloir

Yesterday (Jan 4, 2024) we went to check out the Phantom couloir in Yoho. We were surprised to find a deep snowpack and some fresh snow. So great to finally ski a bigger line in the Rockies after a slow start to the season and an unstable season last year. Hopefully more to come!

What kind of bindings do you use? Do you skin to the base of the couloir?

Yes we skin up until it becomes too steep to skin and then we climb. I use AT bindings by fritschie currently

Probably a stupid question, but I'm not an expert: how can you trust so much to snow while climbing an almost vertical wall? Isn't there a concrete risk of losing the grip?

Definitely should have had an axe on the climb

Snow will stick to lines over 60 degrees. This line is actually not that steep in comparison (45)
