The coffee fumble is real. Shot a buck a few weeks ago, and I almost missed the opportunity from trying to put my coffee thermos away. On the other hand, the deer probably would have never showed up if I hadn't let my guard down. So bring the coffee and have a good time. The deer never show up when I take it too seriously.

Building homes in -40 degree windchill teaches you a few ways to stay warm.
I use a thin layer merino glove over top a nitrile glove. Great for warmth and dexterity.
I’ve made tethers (or they can be purchased) for my gloves. Take a piece of paracord longer than your wingspan and thread it through your arm sleeves. Then attach a carabiner on either ends and either garment your gloves or buy an alligator style clamp that can attach to the paracord. Then when you take your gloves off they are still tethered to you.
I’ve also learned peeing helps regulate your body temperature. It takes a lot of body heat to keep urine warm so if you dump that liquid it feels like you’ve increased your body temperature 5 degrees.
Love the podcasts. Good luck in the next few weeks.

Concur and incorporate alot of the things discussed already; some things i do to help with all day sit comfort and mental stamina:
    1. Caffeine pills - eliminate the "coffee fumble" and saves weight/space (no thermos), just dont use too much or you will need to bring toilet paper as well! Know your limit.
    2. Bluetooth earbuds: i pop in a single earbud outside of the high probability hours (i listen from 10:30 to about 4) and listen to a lighthearted audiobook, just finished mike tyson autobiography lol. I find a tooic different from my normal readong where a high degree of concnetration is not required for listening.
    3. Dip - i dont dip outside of hunting, it is something to do and has an energizing effect.
    4. Use of climbing treestands - very comfortable for all day sits and easy to take a 10 minute power nap of needed. Done with lock ons and saddles! May not work everywhere...
    5. Sitka everything, first lite and patagonia base layers. High quality clothing ansolutely worth its cost.
    6. Those overboots are worth the pack big time.
    Great topic guys!

Cabela's windproof muff and hand warmers for hands; try a wool liner on inside of your rubber boot to help pull moisture away from your socks; Windproof neck gaiter; bibs over a pant because of the extra chest warmth and your coat goes over bibs, helps insulate lower back; the more gear you get that is wind/waterproof the warmer I've been on all day sits.
Try thermos hot dogs, a warm hot dog for lunch is a nice comfort in the belly.

For sitting in the stand all day you gotta be COLD. Clean clothing, avoid Overheating, Layers, stay Dry. Cotton kills, one size up in boots, one pair of wool socks (don’t wear too many socks) mittens beat gloves every day, neck gaiters are essential, wool hat.

Game changer for me was a battery heated vest; such a difference between trapping heat and making heat.

I don't know about anyone else but if I am not cold before I start walking I will be drenched by the time I get to the stand. I have to pack every bit of my heavy layers including extra socks, extra gloves, and sometimes an extra pair of boots. My issue is the balance of not sweating prior to sitting and having room to carry all my gear in. I just run sweaty which is not fun for cold weather regardless of the gear I wear.

I went to a battery powered sock and rocking an uninsulated pair of boots year round. Allowed me to invest in a very premium boot for everything and year round!

Sizing up on boots is good. I usually go up a half size.
When they talk about food and drinks. Double thermos, one for drink and the other for soups. I'm a tea, tomato soup, and pre made grill cheese sandwiches.

Really needed this one. I carry a small packable blanket. When I’m sitting on the cold ground (ground hunting ) I can lay a portion on the ground then fold it over my legs and boots and arctic shields. A 15-20 degree day with 15+ mph winds on a shady north facing slope in the southern Appalachians can feel crazy cold. In still refining my system. But this episode really really helped. Thanks!

Damn thermos and coffee cup cost me a big buck in early November years back. It's definitely nice, but only in a blind for me, never in the stand again. Got one of those milwaukee heated sweatshirts last year, highly recommend for cold sits. Lasts a few hours, cuts down on layers, kick it on after an hour or so of sitting real warm with an outer shell. Love your content fellas

Utah here, my go to glove is the style of mitten that flips open to a fingerless glove. Keeps the hands warm, but when it comes to game time, flip the mitten back and now you have full use of all your fingers for making the shot and weapon manipulation

I've always struggled to keep my hands warm in winter, and have tried everything. I know it sounds weird, but milsurp trigger mittens (the ones with a wool liner) are hands down the warmest glove I've ever used. They are also super cheap!

I have a pair of Oilfield winter boots.
    I THINK Helly Hanson FWIW.
Massive space marine fire fighter super boot.
Awesome around the farm, and winter forestry.
But for hunting, they are heavy after any amount of snow hiking,
Driving is a challenge, the boot is so wide and large.
But they also don't fit inside the stirrup on most Xbows.
And have some issues on some ladders.
    Just,, one step tooo big.
Aside from that, the warmth, the insulation, the waterproof Jess, and the support.
    Amazing.

The “little things” you guys are referring to are called Beggar’s lice. They are horrible. If you just look at them, they will stick to everything you are wearing. They will brush off some of the lower nap fleece/wool blends however. FYI- the Burr paws do not work on these.

I've also tried out my Snowboard boots this year.
    Ankle support
    Check.
All day warmth in cold wet snow?
    Check.
One step smaller than the space marine oilfield boot.
    Check.
(fits at least the large stirrup, and drives.

I also wear puffy jacket and/or pants under a shell. I purposefully own one shell that’s one size larger than I normally wear yo give me extra room to fit a puffy jacket underneath.
My rule on walking in is if by the time I have my ps k & hear out of my vehicle and dirtied to start walking I’m not feeling chilled or even moderately cold I’m over dressed. Always walk in minus layers, then layer up at my spot.

I never wear my hunting boots inside my truck. I drive with slip on sketchers and step out of the truck and into my hunting boots. Gas and oil can be tracked into the floor or on the pedals of the truck and then transfer to the bottom of your hunting boots and get tracked right into your hunting area. I had a deer walking towards my stand. As soon as he got to where I had stepped, he stopped looked around and turned and left. 30 years or more ago and I never wear my hunting boots in the vehicle and that scenario has not happened since I made that change.

Our cold weather mitts have a pocket for the hameat pack.
Cold weather socks could have a pocket added, especially if you have some older socks that maybe wore through the sole or the toe.
Plenty of material there to figure out a heta pack pocket
Modification to the extreme cold sock. 😊
