  • “Now is not the time to start arming every single officer with a Taser.”
The police needs to clean up in-house policing and rebuild trust before arming officers, says former Detective Supt. Shabnam Chaudhri after the Hainault attack.

That means funding a publicly owned Prison Service..... something the Tories haven't done since they took power in 2010.... So in 2024, offenders are released early to make room for new offenders because there are no new prisons, existing prisons are falling apart or no longer fit for use and 1000's fewer prison officers than required thanks to the tory policy of a privately run for profit prison service.

A friend used to own a gun club, pre Dunblane and had several firearms officers who were members. One of them came in to do a bit of practice with his personal weapon prior to "requalifying" the next day, the range officer had to order him off the range as he managed to hit the target in the next lane then topped it off by putting a round into the shooting bench. Admittedly, this was in the mid-90's but I have no doubt some officers have a similar level of capability.

Plus if every police officer needs a firearm to protect themselves then every legal, UK citizen with no criminal record should also be able to protect themselves. It would end up turning into the issues America currently has.

We need proper psychological screening for police recruits/ applicants before they are even offered initial training or induction, It needs to be , Apply, be well Educated to a standard considerably higher than a pound shop door guard! A thorough interview with more than one Person, THEN a full psychological evaluation to ensure theyre not carrying hidden baggage or were bullied in school( that won't leave many) . Only after fulfilling all criterias should they be approved for training, REMEMBER In this country We are Policed By Consent! not By Order

However everyone has the right to to defend themselves, and if the Thin Blue Line are expected to police the types of crimes prevalent in the UK, some type of non lethal weapon , be it a taser or some other type of device, needs to be available to properly certified officers.
