Zimbabwe never rose in the first place.. Rhodesia was... So the differences are way back in Rhodesia there were fences that stood straight up, but in Zimbabwe not anymore, roads were in fantastic condition,, but not anymore, buildings had paint, many don’t anymore, Roads had paint markings on, not anymore, Roads were maintained and repaired long ago, not anymore. 99% of all buildings were built pre-independence, not much infrastructure added since 1980. Quite sad actually that we have not been able to better or exceed what the colonials achieved in the time they controlled our country. Let’s face the facts. The colonials came to an empty land and built all this in 50 years, we have had it for 40 years and have not achieved much at all. We seem to be going backward if we are honest with ourselves. Our roads are deteriorating, yet there are five times as many cars on the road now than there were in Rhodesia. Where are our taxes going? They certainly aren’t going back into the roads and development. It’s the same in every government department, sewage spills onto the streets, electricity shortages, food shortages, hospitals are inadequate, trains don’t run anymore, filth and litter spread across streets and the entire country, hawkers occupy the pavements where we were once able to walk, there is human waste in the ally’s and the stench of urine is overwhelming because public toilets don’t work or have not been expanded to cater for the population growth. It’s good you have done this comparison because it shows our failures to build and improve. We need to stop kidding ourselves that the colonials are to blame for our problems and face the facts that our country is sick and dying because of the Fat corrupt Zimbabwean politicians that have become wealthy beyond our wildest dreams on the taxes we pay for the upkeep of our towns and infrastructure. The entire continent is broken, let’s be honest, we don’t do anything, we just watch or let others do the work.
There is something significant that Rhodesia was named after a great if flawed empire builder and Zimbabwe was named after a heap of ruins. Once tourists visited Rhodesia to see the ruins of Zimbabwe, whereas now they visit Zimbabwe to see the ruins of Rhodesia. The Chinese are taking over. Big projects are run virtually entirely by the Chinese from architects to builders. We just watch. Even the Sheraton hotel in Harare was built by foreigners. We need to wake up. Name an African country where European colonization made life worse for the average person. For sure many atrocities were committed by the colonizers. But on the balance, if you look at life expectancy, education level, general living standards, etc, life was vastly improved everywhere in Africa, thanks to Europeans.
The truth is, Rhodes and Lobangula (Son of Mzilikazi) were friends and it was Rhodes that PERSUADED Lobangula a Ndebele to stop hunting the Shona in Mashonaland. Rhodes was a builder who build Rhodesia then Mugabe came along and broke it down again. There was never hatred in Rhodesia between white and black but there was always tension between the Shona and Ndebele and as a policeman in the early days, I many times attended scenes of conflict between the two tribes. Nkomo himself admits that he made the mistake of taking sides with Mugabe. Nguruhundi was going to come to revenge for the earlier days (before the whites came) of the Ndebebele slaughter of the Shona tribe. I was in attendance at the Mtumbane when the forces Zipra and Zanla were housed in Bulawayo after the war and even then the hatred of each other continued and they fought each other violently. Why do some people hide the true facts from our children? All the white man did was come to Rhodesia to try and find peace and build a beautiful first-world country for All Rhodesians to prosper. People had jobs, education, and a wonderful lifestyle and NOW there is nothing left. 99.9 % of whites grew up with blacks and were keen to see change where all were equal in standard yes we should have done this earlier than we did, but still, I have wonderful black friends in high places in Zimbabwe who all agree it was better for them and their families under a Rhodesian rule that it was under Mugabe's Zimbabwe rule which may I add was in power three times longer than Smiths Regime. God Bless Zimbabwe so that they may now see the logic, stop blaming colonialists, and introduce a young educated youth to take over, and use the vast skills past and present to rebuild the breadbasket it once was. Nkosi Sikele Afrika.

Leaders like Gadaffi, Sankara, Lumumba and etc couldn’t done great things for their countries if they didn’t get ousted from power. Sadly foreign powers have ensured they couldn’t and instead help support puppets whose sole goal is to extract resources from African countries.
