Litter Breeze System Review

  • We used to use the LitterMaid Automatic System, we hated it! It was expensive and it made a mess! It smeared poop all over, compacted pee on the bottom, threw dust every where, was a pain to clean, was loud, got jammed... etc. etc. It sucked. So we're trying this. It's been a little over 2 weeks now, and so far I am very pleased. It's not perfect, and the pellets are a bit over priced, but it works! And NO SMELL!!! Seriously! No Smell!

    You can use equine bedding pellets from tractor supply which costs about $5.50 for 40 pounds. As they use the pellets, it turns into a saw dust consistency which falls through the slots. You will have to empty the bottom tray often, but would be way cheaper. Some people remove the bottom tray and put the top portion into a larger plastic bin.

      Cricket La Chica try searching for Feline Pine brand litter. You'll find it. A pet supply store will have it, Walmart possibly. Any pine pellet animal bedding is fine, tho, it's the same thing as Feline Pine.

      I just purchased the 40 lb. bag of pine pellets from our local Tractor Supply Co. today. $5.59 + tax. By comparison, after years of trying all manner of cat litter the best I had found is called World's Best Cat Litter. It's made from corn and is the best I'd found for odor control BUT an 8 lb. bag costs $8.99. The info on the package says for two cats one bag will last 17 days!!!!! I think I was able to stretch mine a little more than that but I was buying at least 1 bag/month or more often. Soooo happy to learn about the pine pellets!

      i tried World's Best. The odor control was decent and it's easy to clean but my apartment has a recurrent bug problem. If you can keep clean and not have stray food around you can mostly keep it under control... but the bugs LOVED the corn based litter. Crawling all around.

    IMPORTANT: I have been reading the comments and for those using pine pellets make sure they are Kiln dried. Pine oil is poisonous to cats and especially kittens. Kiln dried means that a special process was used to extract all the pine oil from the pellets. Not all pine pellet packages (say that 3 times fast) ;-) , say Kiln dried on it but there should be a number to the company who makes the pine who would be able to tell you if it is or not. Pine litter made specifically for cats is Kiln dried so no worries there.

      Cindy Curran Thanks for the good comment. And I’ll be honest they seem expensive upfront, but I seriously purchased them literally four times a year tops although I believe I only buy them twice, and I had two cats- One with kidney failure, which we just lost, but kidney issue kitties pee a lot... That’s why I just stuck with the pellets

      @@gratituderanch9406 You are welcome! I am an animal rescuer and I also foster cats. Right now I have 6 cats and have had more in the past therefore it is more cost efficient to go with pine pellets that are not marketed to cats, but, oddly, to horses. One 40 pound bag goes for less then $6 a bag and one bag lasts about 6 months per cat. Less than 6 months for one of my cats whom is also in kidney failure and one is a diabetic, my 16 pounder Mia, who drinks more than I have ever seen a cat drink before. Between water and food I don't know where she puts it all in such a small stomach. lol Have a wonderful day! And thanks for your video and feedback as both are very helpful!!!!!

      I'm getting ready to switch over to the Breeze, after dealing too long/clay litter. I'm sure by now you have resolved your problem/the pellets that come/the breeze system. There is a kiln dried one available if you are near a Tractor Supply Co.store, or an urban farm store, like I seeked out?

    Redbird. I have used the Breeze system for over 3 years now. My cat lived in my bedroom so the dogs couldn't attack him. I did not want to smell a letterbox when I walked in my Br. I have since moved and no one knows I have a cat unless he makes his presence known. I use extra litter so he can cover his poop when he goes. But if you scoop it regularly it stays really clean and lasts over a month. The pee pad lasts a week (or longer in a push) with no odor. I love it!

    I have 3 cats, all different ages and breeds. I love this system! I hate the pine pellets, because they break down. All of my cats have bladder issues so I have to inspect their pee. The pine pellets didn't allow me to monitor the pee issues. This system is great! I have 4 boxes in the basement. No odor!!! I clean the poop and the pad once a week. And I change the litter in the boxes once a month. So easy to take care of!

  • @juliebogner9581

    You have to add more pellets initially and wait a day or two for the pellets to shrink and dry the poop. This way the pellets fall off the poop and you don't lose them. More pellets initially lets them cover the poop and dehydrates the poop faster. I love ours

      Julie Bogner- so I SHOULDNT scoop the poop right away? I’m a 1st time kitten adopter & I got this Breeze system & the poop has been really soft & ive been scooping as soon as I notice it’s in there- if I wait it will dehydrate it? That’s what the box says it’s supposed to do, but I didn’t know you’re supposed to wait a little while. Thank you!

      We still love it. the only complaint I have is the white rim should be taller. I've seen TH-cam videos on people extending the height, as the pellets get everywhere.
      we bought the extra pads and pellets on Amazon. Pricey up front, but we haven't had to buy more yet. About 2-3 packages left of each. Easy to clean the outer rim and stuff. We have not felt the need to wash the pellets. Eventually they get scooped out, as some stick to the poo.
      Thanks for the feed back and Sue hope you love it as much as we do!
      If you have a good idea on raising the sides, let me know! 😉

    I just got one today at my local neighborhood thrift store . I had wanted one with higher walls and the thrift store is the best prices around and he has everything you can imagine . Anyway I ended up getting the box 3 bags of pellets and 2 bags of chucks for 5 dollars . Which I knew was a great deal as I always get there . However I was blown away by the price of this stuff upon looking it up online . I heard you say you feel the pellets are too much and I agree . I make things and improvise a lot . I am always breaking everything down learning for instance what a given products active ingredients are and making or finding cheaper alternatives . I for example had learned a lot activated charcoal looking in to and making water filters . And making my own desiccant packets . As I have tools etc I don't want to corrode or have a moist environment . And I live in Florida . So in this I had a leg up and quickly after my wife brought kitty home I made the litter each time getting better . I got it down to where with the one adult cat there was no smell at all for 9 days . . There are ways too of accessing activated charcoal for basically free . Contacting a water purifier softener company that services and one can get the substance they take out of the tanks . . I digress . I wanted to say As I just got this earlier today I have not had enough time to see what they use for the pellets etc . Upon doing some research I may be able to find a cheaper alternative . If so I will share it with you . Thank you for the review and god bless

      They DO cost a lot, but I have to say it's worth it to us. We do want a taller plastic, but that's not too hard to improvise going to TAP Plastics or something and adding a taller piece. I've heard of people using different "pellet" replacements. It's ok for us. The pellets do get everywhere though as they don't cover Poo quite as well as clumping litter, so our cats scratch in there a lot. Still- much better than clumping litter and those insanely expensive and ineffective electric ones like the Litter Maid- what a waste of money that was!!!

      I introduced my cat to the system last night and she was mad at me . When she first realised it she was in shock and started looking for the other box . As she scratches for sport I think . I found that the pellets are made of zeolite and and paper . However the litter with the kit tidy cat system uses zeolite and silica gel . By the way it is interesting as zeolites are good for health etc . They add paper and the zeolite ashes "old volcanic ash " and essentially looks similar to making macaroni pastas . And then they dry to a pellet .

    We got it and love it too. One of my cats has kidney disease and he pees A LOT. I hated the clumping litter is goes every where even dust free and now with his CKD the old stuff would just go to mush and puddle so I was changing the whole box 3x a week at $8 which is more expensive than this system. To transition I just put an old poop in for the smell and said here ya go and put away the old one. They used it just fine. I actually think they like it better Because it isn't nasty. Because of the extra urine, we do go through a pad a day. I am going to get puppy pads. However a friend of mine with a small dog said people pads are even cheaper and more absorbent than puppy pads. Gratitude Ranch okay. I went to Wal-Mart today and got Hartz 2x ultimate Absorption Pads 14 for 5.74. They still have the 50 pack of a different brand about 10 bucks. I got these because of the 2x absorbancy and the size. They are 21x17. So the short side fits the long side of the breeze with a pleat in the center. Work great so far. BUT I found a brand called Peritas on Wal-Mart website. Right now out of stock. But they are at Overstock .com for the same price. 80 pads for 62.99 free ship. If i don't get 2 days out of the puppy pads, I'm going with peritas. They are 78 cents per pad and no folding. All of the reviews were glowing saying no difference than tidy cats brand pads. I am going to put one of these puppy pads under the box though, I got some drips taking the drawer out. Hope that helps!

      Gratitude Ranch as far as the people pads, my friend uses them for her dog. She likes them better than puppy pads for the absorbancy and price. I'm going to pass on them due to size and I don't want to cut them. I think cutting could get messy for us in the drawer considering the amount of urine I'm dealing with now. In addition to his constant drinking he also gets 250ml of subdermal fluids every other day. It's a lot of pee.

    I was curious about this box setup, but the price of the refills is what concerned me -- they're pricey. I'm looking at an alternative method right now using pine horse stall bedding pellets and a two-layer box with a screened middle section -- you put a couple handfuls of pellets under the screened part, more pellets on top, and the pellets absorb the pee and you scoop as you would the Breeze box for the poop. When you scoop the poop, you then lift and shake the tray, so that any sawdust falls into the bottom, and every few days you dump out the sawdust and add another couple handfuls of pellets to the bottom. It's also a fraction of the cost if you have a feed store nearby, because a 40-pound bag of stall bedding pellets is usually under $7, and lasts forever.
    But if the pellets don't end up working out, I might end up getting the breeze anyway. I have two cats, and I'm going through a ridiculous amount of clumping litter each week.

    Thank you for the info on transitioning to this system. I plan to use pine pellets instead but the effect of no litter to dig into will be the same. My elder cat poops on the surface of litter so I don't anticipate any issues with her but my big male cat has to have every bit of his poop covered and is very vigorous with it to the point of sometimes causing the litter box to turn over...yeah, that's not fun. I also had the electronic Littermaid system many years ago when it first came out and ran a ton of infomercials. Had the same results - it was HORRIBLE!!! I just had one cat at the time who was very good about litter habits but my main gripe with the Littermaid was that urine got below the main box and was just...awful.

    • @gratituderanch9406

      oh no!!!! That does sound awful! Our first misshap with this system just happened. My daughter is learning to clean it and she overestimated the power of the pee pads, and when I peeked in there it didn't smell and poo was gone so I didn't check the pee pad... but then it started to stink!!!! and now the plastic and pellets are needing to be washed out and air out. Ick! Cat urine is the worst!

They are approximately 22" x 17" x 5". Drill 1/4 inch holes at the bottom of one of them about 5/8" apart. You don't need a 3rd pan, nor do you need puppy pads - these are a waste of money. In order to reinforce the 5/8 inch gap between both pans, I use 4 canning jar lids between the sifter and the bottom box. After 3 days, I gently lay the sifter box (with litter inside) down on my litter matt (leaves no mess!) and take the bottom box to my big round kitchen trash can where I use a paper towel to push the sawdust into the trash. Takes 30 seconds of my time.

      Audrey G. Honestly even big cats like small spaces.... if they fits, they sits. But my cats like to perch at the exit so they’re half in/out and go. Any cat would fit that way. Even my neighbors bobcat. 🤦🏼‍♀️
      And there’s different preferences for kitty care- so I’m glad you found what works for you! These are by far the cheapest I’ve used EVER. I literally buy bulk once a YEAR. 🤷🏼‍♀️ that’s massive savings. And my cats indoor only. If I could include a pic I would. I bought pellets 3-29-20, pads 2-17-20, pads 4-9-19, and pellets then too, pellets 4-12-18, the hooded system that came with some of each 3-26-18, and pads 1-17-17. The original system with its pads etc 1-10-17.
      I know- because I buy it all on amazon, so it’s easy to know when I buy what. So if yours is cheaper than that (and I doubt it), then that’s fantastic!

    I have 12 cats (thank goodness they prefer outside when the weather is warm and we live on two acres, so they are safe outside), so I order cat food from Chewy.com since all orders over $50 have free shipping and their price per bag of food is cheaper than Wal-Mart - like getting a few bag each month! I use the cardboard boxes used to ship the cat food to put my litter boxes inside which makes higher walls around the litter boxes. I replace the boxes when new cat food arrives.

      We did not like substitute pellets, and pee pads. So I just buy the pellets once a year- the huge bag on amazon, and the regular pads. It’s the cheapest system we’ve had, and the most efficient. So yep- still using it.

    Hello I just got the breeze system last night. I have a 6 month old kitten. She has been using clumping litter. And it has been everywhere in my house. I just couldn’t take clean up every two hours litter off the floors. She would kick it out everywhere. I did like someone told me to just start the new box. So far I’m not sure if she went. I am using the pine pellets that you can get from a tractor supply store. It’s only 6 dollars for a 40 pound bag. I got the idea from a TH-cam video. I pray today she starts to use this box. I don’t want to have to put the messy box back out. I Have moped and cleaned up my floors. How long did it take them to like the breeze?😻

    I love the Breeze system but the pellets have to go because they are silica which is bad for cats and if they are accidentally ingested in any way they will cause death according to several veterinarians. I used the PetSmart paper litter pellets. The other problem is the pads or an environmental issue because they are like diapers... they never break down

    Have you had any problems with your cats walking on their poo and getting it on their paws? We are at our wits end with our 8 month old kitty. His stools are on the softer side and he's a fluffy cat, so he will often walk over his poops or break up the older ones as he digs around. We clean his box every night and scoop out a LOT, and we have had so much trouble with finding little bits of litter-covered poop in and around his litter box room.

    • @gratituderanch9406
      @gratituderanch9406  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      meirles If he has really soft poop I would check with his vet if he needs different food. Soft poops are usually a sign somethings wrong… We had similar issues with one of our kitties. We still haven’t got her figured out quite yet but she has a food allergy to something.
      As to the litter box… I’m not sure how to answer that because if he’s got soft poops I’m not sure anything is going to work. The way the clay pellets work is they dehydrate the Poo, and we have not had a problem with the poop. We do sometimes get the pellets being kicked out which is why am big fan of the new hooded breeze system. Considering how cheap it is to try this system off Amazon I’d say just give it a shot.
      Good luck! Hope you all figure it out! I’m a really big fan of poop and Pee staying where it should be! Hahahahaha

      Marina Garza
      How long does it smell? Usually smells when my cats poop, but the way the pellets work is it dehydrates the poop, so the stink goes away within… I don’t know, 5 to 15 minutes. If it’s stinking longer than that I would suggest using more pellets or checking your cats food. I will say my youngest cat is allergic to something and we’re not sure what so her poop is absolutely foul. And I mean it’s rank... So it does stink immediately following a poop, but it should go away. Is this your experience?

    So the people we adopted our kitty from had this system and gave it to us. They said it was awesome and got rid of smell. Other reviews say there’s no smell. We have had our kitty 3-4 days and it STINKS! I had to wash it fully down when we got it and I have to change the pee pad after each pee. Saying this in a nice way, but do you think most people that say there isn’t a smell at all it’s cuz most cat owners are nose blind...???
    I can smell the pee through our whole upstairs no matter where I am and smell pee.
    Sooo... we haven’t had a cat in 9 years. So we are def not nose blind. It’s so strong. I’m not loving the pee pads because I don’t think they hold any of the smell.

      @gratituderanch9406  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      India Starr I’m definitely not nose blind! And I’ve only had it smell bad when my daughter said she change the Pee pad and fibbed.
      Are you using generic Pee pads? Honestly that’s why everybody suggests using something else but I keep coming back to this brand.
      If it still stinks then I would say either maybe it’s because yours is a kitten, and they will outgrow it, or because there something wrong with your cat and it’s urine is especially concentrated in which case I would take it to the vet.
      Good luck!!! We switch to this one because I hate the smell of cat Pee! And clumping litter just never covered the smell Enough for me. We even had one of those automatic litter scooper things, that was the biggest waste of money!

      Nicole Ancell I tried rewashing them and it’s a bit of a pain. I believe they’re made of ceramic. So they’re porous and absorb liquid like teracata pots, but will dry out.
      When I washed mine I soaked em in a 5 gallon bucket outside with fish soap for a day. Then rinse rinse rinse. And leave in the sun to dry. Was a lot of work. Not worth it in my opinion, and I’m pretty frugal.
      People keep saying they’re expensive but seriously I bought pellets April 10th, 2019, then April 12, 2018 (they lasted me a YEAR), then August 17, 2017. 2 cats, and one with kidney issues so they pee a lot.
      It’s $42 for a year. A whole year. I don’t think that’s bad.

      Jennifer Green honestly mine never smell, which is a problem- I forget to check sometimes (and have kid helpers who help as kids do). Thankfully there’s a good lip on the tray witch catches overflow and can easily be rinsed and wiped dry and reused immediately.
      It only smells when we’ve let it go a week and it’s way over flowed AND we then pull it out (as long as you’ve got enough pellets in the tray).
      It’s the poop that can stink for a little bit. But I’m pregnant and have a SUPER smeller at the moment, and we have a cat with allergies and has the raunchiest poops and gas ever. Like truly foul. Lol. But even that gets better as they dry out.

I have several cats that are mine, and several more that come and go as that are strays ( I'm a foster mom and have a TNR/feral/stray colony that I look after with help from HS.) But when you have even 3 or 4 cats, the boxes get full quick. And depending on litter, the smell too,even while scooping 3-4 times a day. Thanks for reply

    This system made my cat pee in my shower and pooping in my plants. I have went back to regular litter in a $4 box. Want to buy my almost new Breeze Box?

      Oh boy, your cat must have resented the transition. Sorry. I still like mine. Did opt for the hood though. Wish they sold that separately!

    I hope this lady isn't an accountant she is paying 42 bucks a year for 21 pounds compared to 7 bucks for 40 pounds

    • @gratituderanch9406
      @gratituderanch9406  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You actually need to account for how ouch you pay an entire year. Not just per pound. My nature of the ceramic being much longer lasting than pine or the pellets that disintegrate. But thank you yes accounting is definitely something I am good at. You need to make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. Which of course when you’re looking at pounds of different items- that can fool many into thinking it’s cheaper to buy an inferior product more often. But if you would like to pay more money in entire year go ahead. Doesn’t bother me any.

      @@gratituderanch9406 no you're right it doesn't bother me any at all to pay 21 bucks a year for 3 bags of 120 pounds compared to your 6 bags of 21 pounds at 42 bucks. My pellets make good compost i'm sure your's doesn't but if you look at all the comments, there are way more people that use natural wood pellets than your expensive ones but you do you

    I see several comments about using the wood pellets and I'm actually just starting on those now. I found this great video about using the wood pellets with this system: th-cam.com/video/HGhQc-B3euM/w-d-xo.html

    • @gratituderanch9406
      @gratituderanch9406  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, we have indoor kitties. We're in a rural area so lots of predators. We have a lot of feral cats in the area, but they never last long. We had one that adopted us, and unfortunately, she didn't make it.
      So we keep our kitties inside.

    So far my cats use this litter box twice. It smells of pee.

    • @gratituderanch9406
      @gratituderanch9406  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I they’ve only peed twice and it smells?
      Did you use their brand of pads and pellets?
      Our two cats it doesn’t smell unless we don’t change the pad often enough.
      Sure hope it works out!

    Horse wood pellets I hear are the way to go. Super cheap. I also understand that they are a lot safer for cats. Clumping litter can get in their paws and then in their stomachs.

      I literally buy a 6 pack of 3.5# pellets once a year, every year in October (except this year we still have some) at $42....
      I spend less than $42 a year..... it’s not bad.

      I'm sorry you feel that way. Considering it was 5 minutes long (short), pretty sure I did a fair job of sticking to the point on things most people would be considering. How does it work with multiple cats, how do they transition, different cat personalities and how they handle the odd pellets, how does it smell, how does the system compare with the fancy automatic litter boxes, and any problems with the litter box. That's what I want in reviews I watch- otherwise you might as well just buy stuff without watching a review. I mean, what would you cut out? But if you don't care for specific details, that's totally ok for you to have your own preference. Just like cats- we're all different. ; )

      Gratitude Ranch--I'm sorry but it just seemed rambling to me. Do I like reviews--of course. But you are talking about how your kitty scratched you wood desk. What does that have to do with anything? That's what I meant. You're telling us a lot but it doesn't have anything to do with the breeze system. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you but I really got lost in this review. Maybe next time I won't say anything at all.

    • @gratituderanch9406
      @gratituderanch9406  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Phyllis Steging No worries I’m not upset. That one detail may be slightly off subject- but otherwise I think I did ok . I don’t like rambling videos either, so I get that. I usually tolerate a comment or two for a person going off the cuff. I Just respectfully disagree with saying this video was off topic. But that’s ok. Hope you found what you were looking for.
      Cheers

      Gratitude Ranch--Yes I've been thinking about get the system and changing the litter a pit. Another reviewer uses pine litter from Tractor Supply and it is kiln dried to get rid of the pine oil which is toxic. I guess it is also referred to Horse Bedding. The thing about that litter is it really breaks down into sawdust so you would need more then a 1 inch tray. She uses another type of litter box under the whole thing to contain the sawdust. And she gets larger doggie pree pads. Have a good evening.

      I honestly haven’t experimented with any alternatives as I find it works pretty good and it does last quite a while if you buy in bulk off Amazon. I will say I just bought the hooded breeze. Has like ahood or top so let the pellets don’t get everywhere. I wish I could’ve bought it separately, but I had to buy whole new thing but it was worth it!
