Great tutorial. How many feet of coiling cord did you use to make this bowl? I see that you have a link to the coiling cord for 180 feet, but I'm sure you didn't need all of it to make this one bowl. I'm planning to make multiple bowls, so I was wondering how many feet I will need for each bowl. Thank you.
I used about 20 feet for this basket! I typically cut off about a wing-span length of cord (roughly 4 feet for me) and use that one at a time, adding as I go.
You can always start with a wing-span length and add to it and stop once you hit a good length! Would love to see your final baskets!

How long is the cord you used? Because im buying a 50ft pack so how many would that make? Like how many ft is one basket
Great question! I used about 10 feet for the basket I made in the video - truly depends on how big you want the basket to be. If you’re making a shallow, wide basket it might end up being the same as a narrow, tall basket. The spools I buy are 180 yds I believe so I buy at least 3 for my 2 sections of students (around 40 kids total).

At the beginning you are wrapping towards you and when you add a new yarn you wrapping away. I know it doesn't matter but confusing.
Sorry for the confusion! You can wrap either way throughout the entire basket - a lot of my students don't remember which direction they wrapped the previous class so it's helpful that it doesn't affect the outcome.
@@stephaniedanza The wrapping doesn't matter but it does determine how you do the figure 8. I am hoping to use your video (if the is OK) to teach high schoolers how to do this. soon as I learn it myself. Your video is great. Thank you.
@@wendyrice2996 Good point! My students struggled with that too - at around 9:06 in the video I show how my stitch has to be tucked/squished between the coils before I make a stitch. You can emphasize that point of the video when students start to struggle with that. Some other tutorials make a "bridge" stitch that goes over the gap between coils but I believe the "8-stitch" makes a stronger basket.
I'm so glad I made this because then I can help students who really are struggling while other students are able to figure it out from the video.

@@wendyrice2996 There’s definitely a learning curve! Usually my students’ baskets start with bridge stitches and then they figure out how to do the 8stitch further down the road. You’ve got this!
I’d rather sew my basket on he sewing machine. Just my opinion.
