Today's video is a quick chat with our resident genius, David Royer on the latest addition to the Mojave Audio microphone family, The MA-D! Lear more about The MA-D here: mojaveaudio.co...
Love the history David provides for the SM57. I've never been a huge 57 fan, however the context David provides helps me understand why it was so widely adopted. My MA-300s & MA1k made me resolve to never record with a dynamic again! However, this video is making me rethink that decision... I'll pick one up someday... tho not until I land myself an MA-37 😆
I enjoyed this. I was wondering what you guys were thinking. Mojave is making an inexpensive dynamic mic? It didn't seem consistent with your strategy up to now, especially in light of discontinuing the SDCs sometime back (glad I got a couple of those). Out comes a mic for a little less than $4k, now one for about $150! I guess a lot of other people wondered as well.
We never said we were good at business - only at making great mics! I've been wanting to make a dynamic for years but it's taken a long time to get a design out of David, as we discuss in the video. We are planning on reissuing an updated SDC next year.
I just spoke to Mojave today! This mic is NOT made in the USA. It is made in China and checked in Burbank before being shipped to sellers. The capsule is also made in China and specified by David Royer for a smoother response in mind. It has no transformer. I forgot to ask if it has a hum-bucking coil. I was told that the 2 MA-Ds I ordered are of the first batch of 250 made. I will receive them tomorrow and will give them a fine tooth combing check of workmanship and sound. If anything, I will send them back to Sweetwater.
Thank you George! This information is vitally important! If you find out if they have a hum-bucking coil let us know. This information should be clearly stated on their webstie

Didn't realize the SM-57 is such an old design.
We need to see side-by-side comparisons with the old-but-gold players and some of the newer contenders like JZ for instance!
We would like to see those too! Let us know when you post them.
It is a wonderful mic. I have one and love it.
What do you like about it?

@@dusty_wakeman Great news. I needed another vocal mic for rehearsals here, so I ordered an MA-D which should be here Thursday.
