    Wow, what great acting and script. Generations really is an under-appreciated Trek film. Despite it's plot holes, I still genuinely rank it in my top 3 or 4 Trek films. I feel this was the last good Trek movie, and it started to get hollywoodized and summer blockbusterish with First Contact. Picard and Co were never meant to be action stars; they were the philosophical bunch and thought their way out of problems rather than blast through them. The pacing and writing of the first 6 Trek films would have suited this crew much better.
    Oh by the way, Generations came out in 1994. What else came out that year, you ask?
    Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, Legends of the Fall, Speed, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Dumb and Dumber, Interview with a Vampire, etc.
    Hands-down the best year in Cinema!

      +Robert Baur absolutely, I love both of those films. Fight Club is an 8 for me (the ending was just a tad over silly for me to give it a 9, which is what it's closer to in my book anyways), and American Beauty is as good as Forrest Gump or Shawshank, which I both gave 10s. It's one of my favorite movies.

      I personally think that they're both right and I live my life by Picard's quote about time.Far too many of us go through life not cherishing every moment and not respecting time, not budgeting it appropriately and accordingly and not using it wisely.
      I know because that was me at one point in my life so reaching that understanding of time is critically important for us as as mere mortal human beings.

      Funny now to read all these comments of people waxing poetic about the passage of time and the connection they feel to the dialogue of Soren as it relates to their personal lives because some Physicists are now saying that time does not exist , it is an illusion . Good thing it took them so long to come up with that theory cuz that would have caused a rewrite of the script.

There are no jump off points, no way to avoid it. Eventually, it will run me down. I'm not terribly old now. Many would say that I'm still very young, but I know what's coming. I guess it depends.
      Soran makes immortality in the nexus sound like immortality in some kind of heaven or afterlife or like the Elysian fields from Greek mythology and Valhalla from Norse mythology and that,I can understand the appeal of and how it sounds so much better than death.Because even atheists and agnostics have said that they can understand the appeal of believing in an afterlife and the concept of something better than this world waiting for you after you die and living forever in this paradise/utopia on some other plane of existence.
      But if it were immortality like Connor McCleod in Highlander and living forever and having to see everyone you know, love and care about grow old and eventually die while you live on,unable to die,it almost makes immortality sound more like a curse than a gift and blessing. The movies Interview With The Vampire and The Wolverine(since Wolverine from the X-Men is practically immortal when you think about it)also presented immortality as being much more like a curse and not really being better than death at all.

    If we're going to argue sci-fi nerdshit...well...basically it took the Enterprise with all its "might" to keep the ship from crumbling while the rift went across the entire deck and swept Kirk along with it.
    Had Kirk simply "fell out" of the ship he would've died in the vacuum of space. You need to be alive to get in. Either Sauron or Gainan explains sometime in the movie why he couldn't just take a ship in to get to the Nexus, mostly that it'll be destroyed and him killed before the transfer.

    • @mainstreetsaint36
      @mainstreetsaint36 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their proximity to the Nexus itself fixes that issue. A human can survive the vacuum of space for about 10 to 15 seconds. The pressure differentials between the section Kirk was in and space could have thrown him out with enough speed to get inside the Nexus within the 10/15 second window.

      As Data said in stellar cartography: Every ship which has approached the Nexus has either been severely damaged or destroyed.
      Flying a ship into the Nexus, the ship would likely explode (killing the occupants) before the Nexus-effect can take place and shift the occupants into the Nexus. The Enterprise-B was lucky to escape with a hull-breach, compared to the refugee ships, which were destroyed.
      By changing the path of the Nexus to intersect with Viridian III, Soran hypothesized (correctly) that he would be directly exposed to the Nexus, with nothing around him to explode etc, for long enough to be shifted into it. Note how the gantry which he went to, was quite a distance from either the missile launcher or his command center's computers... And of course, once the Nexus passed, the planet itself was destroyed...

    Why didn't guinan just have picard find Soran in the Nexus and tell him what she told him that he could just leave Whenever and he could have made sure to have already left his planet with his family so the borg never destroted his ship 🤔

      Soran doesn't want to leave the Nexus, even if it's to save his wife and child... because he realized that even if he saved them, time would have killed them anyway, and also him... what happened changed him and his priorities, Soran is a man chasing one thing only, immortality

    Many years ago, DC Comics published a retrospective on Scotty’s life, and I particularly remember one thing he said there:
    “When you’re younger, time drags like an eternity…
    “When you’re older, time flashes by, dragging you kicking and screaming towards eternity.”

    If the Nexus go through the galaxy every 39 years and Soran was denied entry in 2293 and this year is 2371 then what happened in 2332? Why didn't he try to get in that year??

      I think the implication is that he did through some other method and failed. Hence the line, "I've spent 80 years looking for another way...believe me this is the only one."

    Good acting on Malcolm’s part. But of all the Star Trek movies created, this ranks at the bottom for me. Right down there with the very first one.

    Soran was wrong. He could have just flown into it with a ship. He didn't have to destroy stars if he did let me know in the comments.

    Since when do the Borg destroy planets? I thought they assimilated what lived on them.

    • @ThePandoraGuy
      @ThePandoraGuy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Felamine They only assimilate what does not resist them. Since the El-Aurian were a highly advanced civilization, it is possible that they resist they Borg to the point, where the Collective decides that it is better to destroy them. What you can't control because it is to strong, you must destroy in order to survive.

      Sometimes they assimilate the people and destroy the planet in the process. Like when they scooped up the colony in Best of Both Worlds.

    I hate this movie😡!
    Shatner should not take this role even the producer said Kirk character will die off screen anyways. Let them do it if they wanted to at least i wont see my favorite captain a hero died in such situation !😡😡😡
    Bill should follow his peers denied to take part. Spock, McCoy and Sulu are wiser in this decision.
    Last i hate this StarTrek VII!
    Glad the box office did not turned out well😂😂😂!
    Evil story plot!
    Last. I dont like Picard the ugliest balt guy in universe! He killed Kirk in a way!!! Picard should be the DEAD one!😬
