The very first demo of Going Down Recorded in Chorlton in 1986. There's no drums until the end and has an added xylophone. No Copyright Infringement intended
I love this version, been listening to this constantly for weeks. Also there is a video called Stone Roses Instrumental 2015 which is Shoot you down and Where angels play which is equally as good to hear how good this band was. Roses Forever.
I'd like to know which one of them played the cute little glockenspiel parts. It sounds so sweet. I wonder if it was multi-instrumentalist Reni. That would maybe explain why his drums don't come in until the end! Just a theory! I need to go back to Simon Spence's book to check if glockenspiels were mentioned! I don't remember them being talked about!
@glenndouglas8822 the mention of the number 9 here hasn’t got anything to do with time or clock watching. “30 minutes brings me round to her number 9” is a metaphor for a woman’s private parts, a lot of the song has sexual innuendo like “there’s so much penny lying there too touch taste and tease” or “come into the forest and taste the trees”.
Stripped down, such a fucking beautiful melody. Underrated track!
In love with the little glockenspiel bits.....
Ring a ding ding din

Reni forever.so unfortunate ians vocals were strained from fools gold onwards.
Stuart Mason I think he must have wrecked his voice with too much dope.
Ye this is the dogs bollox with renis backing vocals & guessing reni played zylophone or chimes,it actualy a peefect lulabye
Beautifull voice of ian 👌
And Reni! 😊
First time i've heard this one. Turns out Ian can sing live after all. LOL's.
Has a innocent beauty somehow missing from the released version. Love both🙂♥️♥️
Dansette crackles to Jimi's tune. Immense forever.
Oh bloody hell, how did I not realise it was _that_ Jimi? Here's me thinking some random Jimmy
my favourite lyric from any song
Reni's backing vocals take this elsewhere! They really should've let them be more audible in the released version along with a few other tracks!
Stone roses lulabye love the chimes reni im guessing dose them, youre right his backing vocals "im coming round" most excellent
Absolute class
Absolutely incredible!!
Absolutely MAD about this song !!

What the hell is a number nine?
A Jackson Pollock
A title of a painting by the artist Jackson Pollock
Likely a metaphor for a woman’s nether regions
9 in this song is nothing to do with a Pollock painting, yes they mention his work number 5 but the 9 is him not sleeping and clock watching.
