- Jon Batiste and his wife, Suleika Jaouad, spoke about their documentary, American Symphony, which saw Jon attempt to compose a symphony as his wife underwent cancer treatment.
The pair spoke about how difficult it was to watch the Netflix documentary, and how Jon felt seeing the artwork Suleika painted, for the very first time.

I love Sulieka's laugh. I especially appreciate the depth of of her journey, and their love story. I met my husband at 12, he was 14 and have been married for 58 years. I send them heaps of blessings for a lifetime of love, good health and joy.

I saw it too and it was so moving.
The documentary, as well as this interview, has moved my family deeply. My son-in-law was diagnosed 3 years ago with leukemia and was in the hospital over Thanksgiving and Christmas with 8 months of out-patient chemo. They lived by our family motto, "Trust the detours" just as Jon and Suleika are doing and their lives, gifts and their stories are a gift to families who've walked this path. We get to cry with them, hope with them and rejoice with them. Well done, good and faithful servants.

Jon Batiste you are a lucky man to have such a supportive, strong, life-long woman even when she is not well. And Suleika you are a lucky woman to have such a supportive, strong, life-long man even when he is worried. You are a wonderful couple. I have loved Jon's music since I saw him as an older kid performing with his family on I think Frenchmen's St in New Orleans, my favorite jazz and blues place.

I just watched this documentary and I am Godsmack by the human emotions. I just loved the music too. Pure Genius. She is a talented artist too. Love conquers all. My Father was Tunisian and we have a Famous hotel over there. Called the Plaza, in LA Marsa, Tunisia.
Thank you so much for this interview. After watching, I watched John and his wife’s magnificent documentary. I cannot tell you how much it meant to me. I cried quite a lot and I smiled often and it filled me with great joy. I am sorry to refer to John’s wife, who is an incredible artist but I can’t spell her beautiful name. May all the Gods bless both of you. I googled Suleika and I will be buying her book.
