  • *UPDATE* I am now offering this windshield for sale on my website: www.SolveProductDesign.com
    This video walks through the steps in making a windshield for my 2015, Honda CRF250L using the gravity sag forming process.
    This is a custom windshield, designed to mount without drilling any holes or using any hardware. It was designed for a nice fit behind the headlight bezel, rather than the typical front mounted design.

    So I received 2 windshields from Blaine today. I installed one on my crf300l in 10 minutes and went riding all day both on road up to 75 mph and miles of hard new England trails and I couldn't be happier the fit and look are unsurpassed no holes no metal bars or mounts to get in the way or detract visually. No wind buffeting and I'm 71" tall. Seriously it looks like it came factory. Blaine is clearly intelligent and creative. Two thumbs up

    Blaine, I wanted to get back with you regarding the CRF300L windshield I purchased for my Honda. The craftsmanship is first rate and the mounting process is genius! Aesthetically it's really clean and attractive with no unsightly hardware. Looks 100% OEM. The fit was perfect and it all went together so easily. Best of all, it's very solid at speed. No rattles, vibrations or harmonics. And it does an amazing job of getting the wind blast off my chest. Finally I can scoot down the road at highway speeds without cringing. Well done, sir!

    Wow, that's good design/build. Looks good. Is it higher than the Baja Worx shield? ... and do you feel the air pressure now on your helmet (versus torso) when you ride?

    • @blainemcfarlane
      @blainemcfarlane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks CoolBananaBoy! I believe this shield would be a couple inches taller than the bajaworx shield just based on their website info. I do still feel wind on my helmet but it's reduced significantly, especially how it used to hit the underside of my helmet (probably reflecting up off my torso). The biggest improvement is in the wind blast to my upper body. It makes highway riding so much more relaxing and comfortable. I can sit upright without having to hold on so tight to the bars. I'm about 5'10" for reference.

    Elegant design!
    How is the vibration on the windshield & does the headlight beam shake? How many miles have you put it through by now? Wondering how well the headlight cowl will hold up with the stress of the added torque & leverage from the wind.
    My son is looking to buy one from you on ebay for his 2014 CRF250L.
    I might have to figure out something similar for my WR250r.

    • @blainemcfarlane
      @blainemcfarlane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven't tried any competing windshield designs so unfortunately I can't say for sure if it's better. I do see some vibration on the windshield due to wind which I'm sure is common with all designs, but I haven't noticed any extra shake in the headlight beam. As for the torque on the headlight bezel: I suspect that this design would be better than a bolt on style. The main force imparted on the headlight bezel is where it mounts to the headlight mounting assembly and that force would basically be straight forward. The second force countering the torque from the wind is applied back into the triple clamp rather than the headlight bezel and therefore removes any major torque from the headlight assembly. This is different than a windshield that bolts firmly to the headlight bezel. In those designs, the full torque from the wind would be completely countered by the headlight bezel which is in turn fastened to the rubber mounted headlight assembly. I hope all that makes sense.
      So far I have a little over 2000 kms (1200 miles) on this windshield with no issues. I've received lots of positive feedback from others as well with no reports of any failures in use.

    • @drmayerr
      @drmayerr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blainemcfarlane That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation Blaine. I’m sure I’ll be helping my son install it in the near future. -now if I could only get you to make one for my WR250r! 😉
      Also, have you let the CRF250L groups on FaceBook & Reddit know you have these available? You should be able to sell a lot of these. Once my son Trent uses it (& likes it) I know he’ll post about it.

    • @blainemcfarlane
      @blainemcfarlane  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far I've only built accessories for the bike that I own. Maybe if I sell enough windshields I could add a WR250r to the fleet. 😂 I have mentioned the windshield on one Facebook group but I have to admit that my marketing skills are pretty non-existent and I tend to prefer spending my time in the shop. I've always hoped that quality products would market themselves but there's a lot of competition out there! Positive feedback and word of mouth is still the best in my opinion.
