This just alerted me to the fact that despite playing Bin Weevils for about 4 years (2011-2015) and reading the magazines, I really don't know much about Bin Weevils.
So honoured to have a part in such an incredibly thought out, planned and edited project. But at the same time, call me Btec Memeulous again and I'll get the Bin Weevils Rewritten developers after you again...
I just realized the place where 55 pixels worked wasn't too far from where I live. The entire time, the developers of Bin Weevils was right underneath my nose lmao. I have so many old memories of this site, even if I was more of a Club Penguin kid. I had a couple of trading cards and even a rare mini figure thing from a magazine I bought once. Some people may have said Bin Weevils looked like a bad game, but sometimes what makes something bad, is what makes it good.
I really enjoyed this video - it was incredibly well researched, edited and narrated and honestly deserves a lot more views. Bin Weevils was a big part of my childhood. I created my account in August 2008 which I remember because I had a golden egg that you could click on and it would tell you; I also had a silver trophy from the nest inspector and even submitted fanart to the game. It was honestly sad to watch it dwindle into the dead, unloved and abandoned game it became by the late 2010's, but at the same time I'm still sad it never got a proper send off in the way other popular childhood games like Club Penguin did. I'm grateful for this video as it really brought back a lot of nostalgia and memories, as a 21 year old looking back I didn't realise how special this game was to me at the time. Also; where did you get all the information to research this? It's impressive as I've often struggled to find much information at all about the later years and decline of Bin Weevils as there sadly seems to be little availability or interest. Anyways, thank you for the good work and know that this video made me smile a lot :)
yeah right? i felt like alot of people hated this game and thought it was trash... alot of kids back then would rather play moshi monsters or club penguin than this so i never had any friends to talk about it to

i used to exploit on binweevils using fidlr and cheat engine, i would find XP hacks, walk crab glitches, out of bounds glitches at flums, antenna glitches (before super antennas came out in shop), and i would pretend to be a boy and have girlfriends
Ahahaha it was the ultimate game to do whatever you wanted and was easier to exploit that club penguin etc. I hope this video helped bring back those memories 😂
I played around 08-10 so my memory's a bit foggy, but who remembers a 2009(?) mass unbanning event. Around the start of the year pretty much every account that was banned got unbanned. Before this happened, there was someone called Master-G who I didn't like, so I made a hater account and actively tried to get him banned through reverse psych (even though he did nothing wrong; I was just a dumb kid) and eventually he did stop showing up; on the unbanning, I saw he came back and admitted to being unbanned, so I logged onto my hater alt and reconciled with him in person, no hard feelings, but it's just so weird how binweevils lasted for so long despite literally held together on a shoestring and being so easily hackable.
I had no idea Bin Weevils lasted as long as it possibly could as well. I wish I knew that it was gonna shut down a bit before it happened so I could have played one last time. By the time of the shutdown it had been like 6 years since I had last touched my account.
Forgot to add that they used to AIR mlp:fim on there pretty rarely (I think, i know they aired mlpfim on smth like that but i dont remember where or when i heard about it)
8:45 Huh... it's very surprising that whoever deactivated the Crater Craft Twitter tagged the one for BWR, which was recreated by a small creative team of fans by the way, so BWR wouldn't have any affiliation with the original company behind Bin Weevils or games like Crater Craft.

I saw that too! It’s possible that people just haven’t updated their LinkedIn pages, or are technically still employees as the company hasn’t been liquidated yet.
@@Peppoli I got the ninja mask, as well as the fire and water suits (There was no snow when I played). I played club penguin basically just for the card-jitsu lol. I liked Decorating my nest in bin weevils, and doing those "Weevil X" missions.
@@SkyenNovaA omg i love bed card jitsu! I also stopped before snow came out, felt like it was taking forever!! (In reality I think snow came out less than a year after water but kid attention spans are different LOL)
@@Peppoli That's true. Personally, I stopped when I was about 8 years old and just grew bored of the game. Wish I'd stuck around until the end though. It kinda just came out of nowhere when they announced the shutdown
You completely missed out the original map. I've been trying to hunt this down for years. I'm pretty sure I was playing this game during the alpha launch whe it was purely 2D graphics. The entire map was a three tier bin
@Peppoli look up "Bin weevils old bin" on TH-cam. You'll see scraps of the old 2D maps but nothing complete. It was a weird and quiet period on the game where you never really encountered other players

I wouldn't say Bin Weevils was ripping off Club Penguin so much as it was inspired. Although I liked Club Penguin more I did find the features Bin Weevils had the Club Penguin didn't quite interesting.
