I can absolutely confirm the giant squid was really scary for little kids. I got into club penguin when I was around 5 years old, and aqua grabber was instantly one of my favorite minigames. Eventually I got the squid and instantly closed the window, I was horrified. No joke, I exclusively played soda seas for years because of this. I do vaguely remember some kind of rumbling sound for when the squid appeared, but not a roar. But its not like the screen shake + giant shadow needed anything more to terrify a kindergartener.
I like how watching these video feels like im in a conversation , like when you talked about the shadow ninja rumor, i was like "YEAH I REMEMBER THAT" and then went trough a lot of memories, honestly i could spend hours talking abt club penguin, i miss it so much

One time when I was 7 I got a week long ban week for saying fuck you in chat. Lied to my dad and said I was banned for no reason. There must have been a customer support number for the memberships or something because I remember him sitting me down and calling this number on speaker phone. The look on his face when the person on the phone said I was temporarily banned for typing the "f obscenity" in the text chat. Lol I just wanted this penguin to leave my igloo. Club penguin might be the first thing I have legitimate nostalgia for.
Oh man the Webkinz killer rumor at the beginning really brought me back to 2008. That legitimately terrified me back then. This video really makes me appreciate and be glad I was born in 2002 as opposed to any later date so I could really have experienced the magic of late 2000’s internet that anyone younger would have unfortunately missed out on. The batshit crazy myths and theories really added to the mystique of internet culture back then and now I think that feeling is long gone nowadays. You have no idea how happy seeing the Built to Spill wallpaper and the Siamese Dream shirt made me.
For real. It makes me sad to think that there will probably never be another game like this, one that can be so magical and sincere and full of good memories.

(and tbh as someone who'd been genuinely playing since 2006, of course this annoyed me greatly) i also figured out a way to confirm them as the hackers they were. see, many of these hackers also had all the pins in the game... including ones that weren't supposed to coexist, most notably the operation blackout pin. that was a pin with like five different levels depending on how far you'd gotten into the thing, and in normal, intended gameplay, this pin would get replaced by the next level pin. it was pretty cool! and well, these hackers would always have every level of this pin. and you could tell, because all the pins of a player would be displayed in their stamp book. a normal player who was around for this event would have One of these pins, representing how far they got (usually the final level) - meanwhile, the hackers would have all of them. just a whole row of near-identical pins. it was such an obvious tell once you knew about it.

Yeah but this was a separate entity from the main game. It was a privately run server with its own login and stuff. My actions didn’t affect the actual Club Penguin at all This was also a couple of years later

Yeah but this was a separate entity from the main game. It was a privately run server with its own login and stuff. My actions didn’t affect the actual Club Penguin at all

The Total Drama video is basically done and has been done for over 6 weeks now; I'm just waiting on the people who I'm collaborating with to finish their parts. The deadline was June 1 but they're kinda flaking on me unfortunately. I made this video in the meantime.
