The “dark room” comment just made me think of drag makeup and the fact you can’t do pretty, blended stuff for a club. They need that contrast so back of the house can see the queen. So maybe that’s part of the issue since insta started adopting drag styles- stage makeup is not everyday makeup afterall

Yes! And “day-time” drag is real as well. Basically when you see all that heavy makeup in natural or fluorescent lighting, it looks horrible! Stage makeup is done with a specific setting and lighting in mind. Not meant to go outside in broad daylight looking like something out of the mortician’s office!

I literally came here to comment the same thing!!!!! I think it's in Bobbi Brown's makeup book where she actually recommends that EVERYONE use a foundation with yellow undertones. Ummmm....I definitely have cool undertones and am incredibly pale. If I use something with warm, yellow, or even sometimes neutral undertones, I look jaundiced. I get the idea is that, "Oh you're cancelling out the red," but a.) that doesn't seem to work and b.) not everyone with pink undertones has an issue with redness.

Things people don’t realize about influencer makeup:
    - they do their makeup that looks good on camera, NOT IN PERSON, those things are not the same
    - influencers might not care about how much product they use because they don’t always pay for it, they get a ton of it in PR
    - what works for an influencer might not work for you! Contouring and eye looks are based on face and eye shape
    - influencers get paid to use things and they don’t necessarily have to disclose that
    - influencers will put on makeup for a video and then wipe it off, their methods/looks aren’t meant to stay all day

It makes sense to add liquid highlighter to foundation if you want to get that dewy radiant look with a full coverage foundation. But if used with a primer, then it would only make sense if the primer is to be worn alone on top of your skincare routine with no makeup added. Those are my two cents. Not only have “beauty gurus” admitted to using filters on their videos, but camera doesn’t capture everything our eyes do. Ever seen a beautiful moonlit night and tried to take a picture of it? The picture looks like crap, even with more expensive cameras, compared to what we actually see. That’s why their skin looks so smooth and soft on screen whereas it looks horrendous in person.
This extraordinary amount of makeup and techniques only makes imperfections easier to see. I met someone who did this as an everyday look and I could see every single pore, wrinkle, and even acne scars from five feet away. There’s a reason the saying, ‘less is more” exists and why it’s important to use the correct techniques.
Also, you can do whatever kind of makeup you want. It doesn’t mean it’s going to look good or flatter you in anyway.

Ursula Scott It’s so sad because teen to early 20s girls usually have the best skin (I’m aware some girls suffer from bad acne) but unfortunately that same age is where they’re the most insecure which makes them vulnerable to being brainwashed into thinking they need full coverage to cover the look of real skin.
I had beautiful skin and because of one spot I thought I had to cover my whole face in foundation. A beautiful flush and I thought I had to cover the “redness.”
The thick foundation made my skin break out in little bumps which then caused me to treat it with too harsh acne products because beauty companies profit off of insecure girls. Those acne products destroyed my skin barrier which then caused my skin to break out even when I didn’t wear makeup.
It makes so sad to see these rich beauty companies making women is secure all to sell their products. And now youtube is also a wealth of misinformation and lies that target young women to make money from their insecurities.
Channels like Robert’s are desperately needed to counter the beauty industry.

When we have all these Instagram and TH-cam "influencers" telling us is that there are no rules and that you can do whatever you want with whatever product, it really is misleading. Of course you can do whatever you want, but that does not mean that it's going to look good.

When they really could’ve just minded their own business to begin with and let people do them. I love that Robert distinguishes between rules and theory and took me a min to learn the difference but I really appreciate that distinction. Learn to express and express yourself however u want and politely afford other people the same courtesy. This isn’t meant for you specifically at all, I agree with all that you said. Just a general PSA on why that phrase possibly exists in the first place. People shoving their “theory” down other people’s choice of self expression and creativity.

If you’re really into color theory look up PCA season color analysis. Many people who just glance at season color analysis think it’s too limiting but I’ve found it to be the opposite.
You can wear any color, it’s all about getting the right tone and depth for your coloring. Now I understand why I sometimes look great and I sometimes don’t. I can now control how to look my best.
If you want an example look at this youtuber (her channel is awesome). In the first video she’s not wearing her best colors (except of her tshirt but it’s mostly under her jacket). She’s still pretty but her makeup colors clash against her skin tone.
Then click on the second link to see her with colors that suit her skin tone.

I know I'm pale so undertones are kind of hard to see, but when I tell you it took literally TEN YEARS for me to figure out I'm a green undertone and not pink or yellow (as companies would make you think pale people are only those two - I mean seriously, I don't need an Ivory or Porcelain, I need a 'Frozen swamp' shade of foundation) and it was a revelation (plus I really only figured it out by not washing the brush I used to turn myself into the Hulk on Halloween and using it to apply foundation that turned out to match better than anything else...I was speechless).

      @BbGun-lw5vi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Fiona Moore MJ Oliver is right that you might be a peach undertone. Many redheads are peach because they have warm undertones. Foundations can often make them look grey or yellow. Look for a peachy foundation.

    • @BbGun-lw5vi
      @BbGun-lw5vi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

RedhairedBallerina 🤣 I cant believe you figured it out by using a dirty Hulk green brush! So funny!
It also took me 15 years to figure it out. I was so mad! No wonder I often looked deathly pale, or grey or yellow.
I finally found the Koh Gen Doh aqua foundation in 213 and it’s amazing how good it looks. You can clearly see the green undertone which is what I needed.
I don’t know how pale you are but if you’re about an NC15-20, it’s amazing! The website sells samples. You can also mix in a white mixer to lighten it up. It’s a beautiful formula.

Bear Burrito If she said your dark hair went well with your olive skin she probably meant olive the way most people use it, as in tanned or darker skinned. Because there’s nothing about dark hair looking good on olive green skin. But if it helped you realize you had olive green skin then it’s all good.

I went to a professional MUA with certification and everything, my makeup technique is less is more which she said is absolutely wrong. There's only one true way of doing makeup and when I tell you she caked my face, I looked SUPER aged plus cakey. My skin felt disgusting and later when I got home I spent a long ass time removing the bulky mask, I really didn't learn anything in the end from her especially how she thought there's only one way to do makeup. 🙄
Edit: I went to a class she had so I did my makeup my way, then she did it her way on me.

500!?!? What the heckerooni. And didn't she do a test make up before the actual wedding day? Back when I did Make Up (long long ago xD) I always did a test make up a few days before, so the client could tell me what she wanted, changed things up - etc. Until the point where she liked it and felt good. And of course you could see all over the day how the colors behaved o; so you wont get too pale or yellow or green or what else.
And plus point - you already know everything you need and want to do on the wedding day - so everything is faster for the stressed bride and she doesn't need to be scared for her time plan 👌(and I'm not so nervous to fluff up the bride xD)

Heck, I only recently found out I even had a neutral undertone due to e.l.f's complexion products and finally finding one that matched me after years of having foundations being too pink or too yellow. Undertones need to be taken into better consideration tbh! There should be a pink, neutral and yellow undertone option for each shade when it comes to complexion products imo. Not stretching skin is something that I learned early on! My mother and I both have extremely hooded eyes, and after having my shapes screwed up by moving the skin like I saw online, I was like, "Nope! Not doing that anymore!" I'll do my shape first and blend to what I want it to be, and then check for cracks or folds, and if I need to just barely pull the skin taunt and blend the crack or fold to match. That is how I learned to get nice straight, sharp liner on my deep set hooded eyes.

Thank you, Robert, for countering some of these channels.
It’s so sad because teen to early 20s girls usually have the best skin (I’m aware some girls suffer from bad acne) but unfortunately that same age is where they’re the most insecure which makes them vulnerable to being brainwashed into thinking they need full coverage to cover the look of real skin.
It makes so sad to see these rich beauty companies making women insecure all to sell their products. And now youtube is also a wealth of misinformation and lies that target young women because it’s easy to make money.
Channels like Robert’s are desperately needed to counter the beauty industry.
If you noticed that your skin has been destroyed by harsh acne products, reply here and I’ll help you start over with simple, gentle skincare products you can get at most stores. I dealt with problematic skin for twelve years before finally figuring out what was wrong and I’ve helped others.

      Linda Kandha Sure.
If you can only afford one product, get the Vanicream gentle facial cleanser. You can buy it at Amazon or the pharmacy. It’s free of dyes, lanolin, fragrance, formaldehyde, parabens, etc. A lot of dermatologists recommend it because almost everyone reacts well to it. And it doesn’t strip your skin.
The best, afffordable moisturizer is the Cerave moisturizing cream in a jar (you can find it with a pump). There’s a small percentage of people that break out from it but most people love it. Make sure you don’t get the lotion or the PM one because a higher percentage have a reaction to the niacinamide. And the jar one is great to repair the skin barrier.
If you have the big bucks:
The Skinceuticals triple lipid restore moisturizer is wonderful. Repairs the skin barrier and gets rid of dehydration. Dehydration also makes your skin break out.
The Primera miracle seed essence is gorgeous as a first step before applying moisturizer. It has amazing reviews.
And finally I sometimes use the Teddy rose water from Amazon to wet face before applying moisturizer. It’s not needed but it’s nice.
I hope this information helps you.

People focus so much on eyeshadow, highlighter and ignore the base which seems easy but it's actually harder to master in reality.

I don’t apply eye primer like instagram, but after watching this, I do feel like I use too much. I have extremely hooded eyes and find that a lot of the time, my eyeshadow is creasing. I’m going to try this suggestion and see how it works! Thank you Robert!

I also have hooded eyes and I use the Pixi Endless Shade stick in Matte Cognac as a primer. I apply it on my ring finger first then pat it on my eyelids. Works like a charm

I’ve been doing instagram style makeup on my skin and oh my god was I wrong for doing that 😅 I used to bake, use excessive foundation and concealer and wondered why I looked like a pancake 😂 I’ve started using less and using your technique with concealer and stopped baking and my skin has never looked better. Thank you robert, your definitely the best MUA on here ❤️

LilLunaetic x I baked once under my eyes. I’ve never looked wrinklier 😂 Not to mention that I could feel all the product under my eyes the whole day. It was so unfomfortable. I def use less product than most people. Even when I apply the full coverage Huda foundation you can see some of my skin under it, because I use little and blend it.
