Hi. I was on the ski hill near Banff yesterday wondering how could I have a pretty balaclava to wear under my ski helmet. Thank you. Wow. What a coincidence.
It sure is, a pleasant coincidence :) and you can use pretty fabric scraps for it and even add some fluffy stuff to it if that makes it better for wearing underneath a helmet :)
Can’t say how happy I am that I found this- I already follow you and loooove your videos but had not found this video yet. When I searched for a balaclava video and this came up I almost screamed. Thank you ! ❤
My granddaughters will appreciate something like this on our cold mornings. Years ago I wore an old helmet liner while doing my morning chores but it was still cold, my face stayed chapped all winter! Thankfully my granddaughters don't have outside morning chores!
I am so glad to have found your channel. As a beginner sewer, I loaded up on free sewing patterns to try, but I always ended up frustrated as I cannot get the sizing correct. Then I realized that my body shape/size is not "ideal." You made my experience in pattern drafting and sewing so enjoyable. Thank you very very much and keep on inspiring lots of people with your thoughtful creativity!
I am SOOOO excited to try this! I tried an upcycle version using an existing vest hoodie into a balaclava and pogies (hand covers that go over bicycle handlebars), but I needed to cut down the large hood. It's ok, but not great for fit. Having a pattern that will fit ME - AND looks so much cleaner and nicer than my first upcycle attempt is going to be amazing!!! I really can't believe that you figured out this pattern and were willing to share it with us. You are an incredibly talented and generous person. Thank you sincerely.
Recently, we in Massachusetts were enjoying temperatures in the 70's. In November. But we're now more seasonally appropriate with temperatures in the 40s. I've decided to make another -maybe 2 matching (so that I can alternate, wash and have a backup) for this long winter season. I literally wore out the one that I sewed last year. Without a doubt, this has been the most important pattern/project of yours that has made my life better. Thank you, again, so much.
You never cease to amaze me with the quality and generosity of your instructional videos! I'm relocating from a very hot climate to a very cold one soon, and this will be perfect! And CUTE! Thank you so much!
Ha! Ha! My Ukrainian family wears these all the time! Wonderful for winter -- you can enjoy outdoor activities when you're dressed correctly for the weather;) Awesome video.
WOW WOW WOW ALISA YOU HAVE REALLY OUTDONE URSELF THIS TIME !! I mean all ur patterns and outfits are always awesome but to draft this and make it is AMAZING!! I would never have been able to do it thank u sooo much!! From Patricia Rodriguez San Antonio Tx
I’ve been walking/hiking a lot more so this is great timing for me to make a quick & easy way to layer up for winter walks. As you were drafting I was thinking of ways/fabrics to “weird it up” to my regular standards 😆
We used to wear balaclavas as children (my grandma used to knit them for us). But children these days don’t seem to - what a shame if they’re not in fashion with youngsters any more. I’m certainly going to use this tutorial to make myself one from a fleece I have. Thank you.
I need to make some of these for us here on the Prairies... I have stretch fleece I could use (it was meant to be a cape but I screwed up the cutting, so... lol I will have to try again. idek what was I thinking? 🤔) I remember wearing balaclavas when I was a kid too bc it was so freaking *cold*. I think it was the winter of 1976 or something that it got super duper cold for some reason. My parents got us kids these itchy black things to wear that I know now are balaclavas. I've seen new styles of them recently, and really liked your design. 🥰👍 edit to add: I'm going to forward this to friends who might be interested in making these for their family too. 👍
Too warm for one of these where I am, but I'd totally try to rock some dino plates or a pair of pom poms *chuckle*! Cute idea. Funny, this is the second tutorial I've seen on making balaclava this winter - they seem to be needed! :)
I first read 'Baklava' and was confused 😅. Yeah, those things are damn handy, when it's cold outside, especially on a bycicle. They stay on your head and don't narrow your field of vision (like most hoods do). Thanks for the thorough pattern drafting instructions! A great way, to use up some scrap fabric.
Rara, I'm about to make another one for biking in Massachusetts again this winter. So excited to know that someone else wanted to use this amazing tutorial/pattern for the same purpose! to you and of course to Alisa!
Thanks so very much for sharing this. I live in Sunny Queensland Australia, so not to cold here, but this will be great for sun protection when out on the boat fishing or Jetsking as it’s not always possible to put sunscreen on.
I would love to see a tutorial on drafting a swimsuit pattern. I have a plus size granddaughter and swim season is approaching fast. Thank you for all the great tips and ideas.
I live in Latvia. Nobady wears that hat, but I wanted to sew it for daughter. I like pixie hats, so maybe You can create pixie version!? This type of hats are very eastern, russian, polish....old school hats. Latvians more try to move with style to north or west.
Rita, sveicieni Jums! Es dziivoju Latvijaa liidz 2012. gadam un kad biju mazinja - gandriiz visiem maniem draugiem bija taada cepure! Varbuut Jums nebija, bet mums bija :) This type of hat is actually coming back to fashion :) I don't need a pixie hat as of the moment, but you can use a hood tutorial I have on my channel to create your own! :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity 🥰🥰🥰 tik jauki un patiesi!!! 💜 Paldies par foršajiem, vienkāršajiem video!!! Manā ģimenē maz rokdarbnieču, varbūt tāpēc...bet- tagad manai meitai būs šāda cepure!💕💕💕

I’m so so so so so GRATEFUL!!! Thank you for the work that you do!’n
I use balaclavas for under my ski hat or helmet, they are great head warmers! And to have a pattern for one now?!! WOWZERS!!!!!!!
I literally thought Backlava was just food..!! Didn't think it was an garment. Lovely...!!
Baklava is a sweet pastry, but balaclava - is this head garment :) they both sound very similar!
Thank you Alisa💐
I need this today, thank you!
It's -17°C here today and snowing every week since late November.
I need to make one of these for our camping trip 😍
It really does come together so quickly, you will love it + you can use your scraps for it :)
Soooooo very cool!!!

Exactly, when you're dressed for the weather you don't have to deal with feeling uncomfortable! :) I am glad this is going to be helpful!
Supporting Ukraine in many ways now 🕊especially my long ago friends Mark and Yara S, wonder where you are now.

Great idea to make for shoveling snow! It would be nice if you were able to make a downloadable pattern of what you’ve already made. I will try this.

So cute. You look like the flying nun.
Lol, my husband said I look like a TOE :D I choose flying nun :)
It kinda reminds me of a hijab
That's what I actually thought was too...!!
I love this but can make pattern printable or pdf on Etsy I would definitely buy .. I’m too lazy make pattern
It looks like my glasses would fog up, as they do with a face mask on a cold day. The wind should not be able to blow that off. Great idea.
👍👍👍👍merci
What fabrics are good for this project?
Can I use stretch thread?
If I want my material to go over past the shoulders, do I just increase my neck base measurement??
You should sell a printed pattern
