Fun little "tier list" video. I know its not really something serious but as for the reasoning earlier in the video I gotta bring it up. You can't just say "Alfred will take away EXP from Alear" but then act surprised that Framme has decent growths to fit the build and justify it with "she can just heal so shes not taking EXP." All early units like Alear's fanclub and the bodybuilding club get the benefit to use Micaiah for a few chapters and paralogues before 10/11. Anyone can slap on her ring, including Alear, and be babied with staves and Sacrifice or for true madlads, you can level them almost indefinitely if you want to be one of THOSE players. But yeah, Sacrifice used organically, maybe even with the Food Perk, and a few missions they're probably not only caught up but likely ahead of the pack. I also think you overvalue Alear as an offensive unit. A forced deploy and loss condition sure, but in my runs its always more efficient to just let them be the Byleth on a Backup class or Lucina holder on a Flier or even stay Dragon and use Corn. Anyway, still fun to see how you value the units.
Kagetsu on Wyvern with Ike pops off. He uses Ragnell very well with speedtaker and is functionally similar to Xander in Conquest (with a Charlotte backpack)
Jean is a decent Wyvern Knight, but he is a crazy Warrior because of the better speed growth there. My Jean started doubling some enemies with his longbow by chapter 15-16, and at the end of the game he was doubling a lot of enemies with a Silver Axe. Jean's growths on Warrior are 100 HP, 60 Str, 55 Dex, 70 Spd, 35 Def, 30 Res, 15 Bld. He becomes a maniac.
@@nightcloud2014 I know some don't bc in maddening he takes a lot of resources when you first get him. But i tried hard mode for fun, and I went mage-,sage- then wyvern with L. Sword and he hard carried lat egame even when I wasn't trying. So a pure physical route would be insane
I appreciate this a lot. The only thing that would be better (if possible) would be a tier list that was Wyvern, Griffin, or Both if we wanted to run a completely flying squad. This is still very good and helpful. Thank you!
I would be very curious to see a 2-axis chart which ranks both Wyvern and Pegasus (or Warrior etc.) so we can see which units are much better on one or the other. Most of teh time I have trouble picking one of the other for any given unit since it kind of seems like you want to run as many fliers as possible to maximize flier canter exploits or run as many Lucina assist backups as possible to maximize chain attack strats. Balance seems to hold either strategy back since they are not very compatible.
I got an essay for this one because I've been doing spreadsheets just for this particular idea. When it comes to the non-lords they're much easier to compare along the route to endgame. When it comes to best in class I ignore the argument that someone is better in another class. How good Yunaka is as a thief is irrelevant to how she performs as a wyvern knight. Which she is the 4th best in effective attack (even with her passive negated thanks to fliers) and tied for the 12th best in speed. There's also so many ways to invest in a unit. For example Clanne would want some strength related skills, but his speed as a wyvern is the 5th best tied with Chloé. And his strength would be higher than Chloé The thing that throws most people off is emblem favoritism. It makes sense to get that sweet +10 momentum damage early game on Chloé so she tends to get that emblem favoritsm. You can get a similar Clanne result with Celica favoritism and building a strong magic book that some other unit will use later. Not the most intuitive, but you will see results. Kagetsu is the best wyvern Knight and it's not even close. Alear without favoritism would fall around rank #6. 12th fastest wyvern, 8th highest effective attack Worst is 100% Vander Second worst is Citrinne I think some units are being underestimated because they're pretty counter intuitive to reclass. Zelkov makes for the 6th best for a similar reason as Yunaka with the 5th best effective attack and the tied for 12th best speed. Tbh I feel like Merrin is much better suited to be a Griffon Knight - she has really solid base Str, Mag, Speed and Build and can effectively utilize Levin/Brave Sword with Eirika without having to invest in Speed skills because she's so naturally fast
Obligatory "Lyn makes anyone good", but my Wyvern Alfred with Lyn was a monster. Also, I did a crit build with Boucheron as a Great Knight, but without doubling his crits sometimes didn't quite kill so you definitely want a class with speed lol.
This is a great idea to see how good or bad units are in each class. I'm betting Seadall will be bad in every class. It would have been fun if they let any one unit become a dancer if Seadall changed his class.
I struggled a lot during Lynn’s paralogue in maddening because literally all my units were flying at the time and almost every enemy unit was a bow knight XD
I ran Alfred Wyvern on my bottom tier units run. He was alright with Lyn. He did shine with a Brave Lance later though. He could take a couple hits as well with his good Def.
Love the list and that you went through with it from the comment. Side note, i vote merrin easy S on wyvern. I did it as soon as I got her on a run where i needed more fliers and she popped off big time, catching up to- and then keeping up with my well fed wyvern alear.
Iced, I realized that you put a lot of emphasis on priotising Alear early. I'd argue that you don't need to feed them, don't even upgrade their weapons. They can get upgraded to Divine Dragon post Chp. 11. Give them a Shielding Art (Engrave it with Micaiah, so +40 Avo, +20 Dg). Essentially, tell them not to die. Then give them Corrin and now you have the best utility / support unit in the whole game. They ar S Tier with 0 investment. .At the end of my 3rd Maddening run, Alear is level 6 at the end (Internal Level ~18), and Alear was my best support unit throughout.
@@IcedCoffeeGaming Yeah, I followed your guide and did that on my second playthrough, Lucina is broken. However, Alear is ultimate crowd control with Corrin, and makes early game less tedious on subsequent playthroughs.
Jean on my Maddening run (i did slap Tiki on him the whole game too), but I started with him as axe armour and micaiah to get easy level ups from sacrifice and promoted to axe general and he destroyed as that and when he speed capped i changed him to axe/lance wyvern knight and honestly can say he is S tier. After like 2-3 sacrifices of micaiah is all you need to get Jean snowballing really. Boucheron easy S tier as Griffin Knight, plus he gets S tier axes as a griffin knight, has stave utility and able to double most units on maddening with any axe so his damage stays relevant the whole game. Mine has canter+ and whatever the debuffing skill is called from Corrin. You probably will just run Tomahawk most of the time and he doubles on that, sometimes brave axe and the A rank well axe (which has +2 might for every level up by the way and sometimes extra crit chance) He is running the three houses ring, but honestly any emblem ring with strength stats is good, or even Eirika ring. (the other parts to three houses ring is kind of equivalent power to Leif's ring) If i invested more into Boucheron the entire game as a Griffin Knight then he would have been even stronger for end game than he currently is. Early on he is good as his base class and gives him a little more strength growth.
One thing I'm curious about: When you reclass units, doesn't the new class adjust their bases? Is it possible some of the units that you ranked lower due to having bad bases would have their bases fixed a little by changing to Wyvern, and then their growths would be good enough to bump them up a bit?
Everyone’s bases should be fixed the same way since it changes to the class bases so while it’s true their be some variation (like reclassing from a higher strength class to wyvern being less of a boon to your strength then let’s say reclassing from a magic class, would proportionally give them more strength gained) I think growths are more important as the class bases in this game aren’t as significantly different compared to other games. No growth runs in this game rely heavily on hero’s and brace assist for chain damage, proving that growths are actually pretty important, compared to 3H where gaining a certification for a class would give you a permanent boost
For Zelkov, why did you ignore the bases lead on him vs Yunaka? Level 17 Yunaka requires 11 levels of EXP and the speed will generally be tied or +1 on Zelkov at that level. From then on, it's only +1 speed per 10 levels. Just wondering because on other characters like Mauvier and Rosado, you brought up bases.
Wyvern seems pretty reasonable for crit builds since engravings and killer weapons vastly eclipse the importance of Dex. I would only pick Warrior over Wyvern for crit for the ability to use Killer bow, but the ability to canter across terrain seems to more than make up for a few percent otherwise.
My upcoming playthrough I want to test Wyvern Boucheron. On paper he's nuts. 50% spd and 25% bld is solid. Despite his low strength growth, he wields axes with ease to make up for it. And he has good dex to land hits. His huge hp also makes him tanky and his def is respectable.
a small point about alear and it is pretty minor but he's always a dragon so he's only gaining flying vulnerability by becoming wyvern rider unlike everyone else that gets flying and dragon
That isn't a positive for alear though, more so just an observation. Him only getting 1 disadvantage compared to others who gain 2 is irrelevant because he innately has the 2nd disadvantage.
Wyvern Framme sounds good on paper but her BLD is atrocious. I ended up making her a flying crit machine with engraved Killer weapons and 3H and she’s essential for boss cheesing. But yeah it’s not as optimal for her unless you fix her BLD first with Great Knight.
If you don’t run Lindon in your wyvern-only playthrough, I’m going to be very disappointed, cuz it’s hard to swallow that he’d make a better wyvern than everyone in C tier. Any growth rate advantage he’d have seems like it’d be offset by his late join time. Also it’d just be funny to see him demolish enemies on wyvern
I really like Panette more on wyvern for crit build than on warrior. With her skyhigh dex and str she doesn't an extra boost to OS every ennemy on maddening. Plus it is extremely satisfying to send her away and see her clear an entire zone by herself especially those pesky wyvern and griffin that you other units cant reach. If we assume it works for her you should see similar results with Amber, Jade or Zelkov.
Yeah for pandero just do griffin knight because you get all the advantages of wyvern except more mag which is the only thing that matters to him because he's using a mag weapon. Just make sure to put him on sword Griffin not lance Griffin because levin sword is objectively better than flame lance
Honestly I feel like Zelkov should be a bit higher. As long as you fix his speed, he makes a fantastic Wyvern. At LEAST high b. I’ve used Yunaka and him both as Wyvern and he is MUCH better at it than her bc he has the build and strength to carry it off, again as long as speed is fixed which is super easy to do.
I made Lapis and Alear into Wyvern Knights, certainly didn't regret it. I also think Boucheron and Jade can easily go Wyvern. Well, to be fair, anyone can.
Excuse me Mr. Iced Coffee gaming, I have some unit ideas I am very proud of. I was thinking that Alfred might be strong as a Swordmaster. He has 40% strength and 40% speed. Swordmaster's 20% speed would put him at 60% speed and the 10% strength would put him at 50% strength. Wolf Knight could also be really strong, since he could still use lances while also having a Knife and 6 movement. He keeps the huge 20% speed boost while also getting 5% strength and a boost to his already pretty high defenses and Luck. His base speed is terrible, there is no denying that, but I was thinking that if he can get to a point where he won't be doubled, that he could be this amazing off-tank with really incredible natural bulk. He would gain 7 speed through level ups by level 17 (assuming you reclass at level 10) and then also get a few points from the class of your choice. He would be at roughly at around 16 himself. Now, I do see that Timerra is just that but objectively better. I just think that Alfred isn't nearly as bad as characters like Etie.
Yes but I'd rather have high-speed low build than low speed high build because the former can augment their speed by using lighter weapons whereas the latter is always stuck at their low speed regardless of weapon
If chloe can be S in wyvern then Jean is definitely S+. Jean does not need to be carried at lower level. At fixed growth maddening he can easily get to lv10 with his initial class by healing. Meanwhile at lower levels Chloe is very difficult to get kills and level up due to her low str and vulnerability to arrows. 10 martial monk Jean reclassed to wyvern knight has same str, 3 more mag, 2 more def and 2 more res than 10 lance flier chloe to wyvern. His hp, spd and bld are lower than chloe by 2, 1 and 1, respectively. This makes Jean more tanky and more suitable to use levin sword than chloe right after class promotion. At wyvern knight Jean has 15% more str and def, 5% more dex and bld growth than Chloe, 5% lower hp and 10% lower spd than chloe. Besides, Jean is the only character who can get bonus from starsphere from lv1, and Chloe can only benefit starsphere from level 6. One more interesting fact, both fully covered with emblem ring, Jean has 1200 sp at lv10 but Choe has only 700, because Jean starts at level 1 with 300sp but Choe starts at level 6 with 300sp.

Sommie makes that mini game harder because they shoot the green targets instead of the explosive ones and reduce your score.

The only point to wyvern Jean is to make him a flyer or switch him once he hits the warrior's stat caps

Panette cannot run brave axe on wyvern cuz she'll be at B rank. I'm currently running the wrath vantage build on her on wyvern and it works very well.

Interesting use case, I always run mine in dive heavy bonded shield comps as the main bonder due to having supports with everyone.

I tried zelkov as a wyvern in my last maddening playthrough and he was probably the best unit I’ve used so far in this game
Yeah Zelkov has high base speed if I’m not mistaken so he’s great imo

Yeah for pandero just do griffin knight because you get all the advantages of wyvern except more mag which is the only thing that matters to him because he's using a mag weapon. Just make sure to put him on sword Griffin not lance Griffin because levin sword is objectively better than flame lance

Ngl my alear is a scary great knight. Getting kills and tanking hits while my etie and kagetsu knock ‘em out lol
I did this with alear late game after he hit the class cap for speed and it was really fun until enemies caught up, he's a paladin now
Honestly I feel like Zelkov should be a bit higher. As long as you fix his speed, he makes a fantastic Wyvern. At LEAST high b. I’ve used Yunaka and him both as Wyvern and he is MUCH better at it than her bc he has the build and strength to carry it off, again as long as speed is fixed which is super easy to do.
So is the next playthrough Wyvern only?

Weird but I saw for me I saw much more success with Kagetsu as a sword master than a Wyvern. IDK why.

I think Panette crit works much better on a wyvern than on warrior or berserker if you are going Ike because of the increased bulk, dex and move speed

3 stat more for every 20 lvl, it won't really change much for a unit with really bad speed

I made Lapis and Alear into Wyvern Knights, certainly didn't regret it. I also think Boucheron and Jade can easily go Wyvern. Well, to be fair, anyone can.
Excuse me Mr. Iced Coffee gaming, I have some unit ideas I am very proud of.
I was thinking that Alfred might be strong as a Swordmaster. He has 40% strength and 40% speed. Swordmaster's 20% speed would put him at 60% speed and the 10% strength would put him at 50% strength. Wolf Knight could also be really strong, since he could still use lances while also having a Knife and 6 movement. He keeps the huge 20% speed boost while also getting 5% strength and a boost to his already pretty high defenses and Luck.
His base speed is terrible, there is no denying that, but I was thinking that if he can get to a point where he won't be doubled, that he could be this amazing off-tank with really incredible natural bulk. He would gain 7 speed through level ups by level 17 (assuming you reclass at level 10) and then also get a few points from the class of your choice. He would be at roughly at around 16 himself.
Now, I do see that Timerra is just that but objectively better. I just think that Alfred isn't nearly as bad as characters like Etie.

Yes but I'd rather have high-speed low build than low speed high build because the former can augment their speed by using lighter weapons whereas the latter is always stuck at their low speed regardless of weapon

If chloe can be S in wyvern then Jean is definitely S+. Jean does not need to be carried at lower level. At fixed growth maddening he can easily get to lv10 with his initial class by healing. Meanwhile at lower levels Chloe is very difficult to get kills and level up due to her low str and vulnerability to arrows. 10 martial monk Jean reclassed to wyvern knight has same str, 3 more mag, 2 more def and 2 more res than 10 lance flier chloe to wyvern. His hp, spd and bld are lower than chloe by 2, 1 and 1, respectively. This makes Jean more tanky and more suitable to use levin sword than chloe right after class promotion. At wyvern knight Jean has 15% more str and def, 5% more dex and bld growth than Chloe, 5% lower hp and 10% lower spd than chloe. Besides, Jean is the only character who can get bonus from starsphere from lv1, and Chloe can only benefit starsphere from level 6.
One more interesting fact, both fully covered with emblem ring, Jean has 1200 sp at lv10 but Choe has only 700, because Jean starts at level 1 with 300sp but Choe starts at level 6 with 300sp.
