im a Malaysian student in Turkey, staying more than 4 years. unfortunately things i heard before i come to Turkey were beautiful but once i live here they are the opposite not all of them are beautiful. i got treated badly by the system (university, immigration, etc.), suffer severe racism and many more that i ended up got anxiety and depression (had to take medicine + met psychiatric and psychologist). i came with a big smile and im leaving for good in few weeks with a sorrow face. but in my few weeks remaining time i plan to travel around Turkey for my last time, hope i'll find something that could make me smile again and feel like the first time i landed here :)

I'm Malaysian had lived in the UK for about 5 yrs and been to several Western Europe countries and Turkiye once. All I can say is your categorical comments on both countries are fair and I have no reason to think otherwise. As per the question posed on this video I have this opinion: Except for the five daily adzan from many mosques Turkiye is very much similar to other European countries in terms of history, climate, architecture and landscapes, on the other hand Malaysia is very much Asian in those terms, so the slogan "Malaysia is truly Asian." Being a predominantly Muslim country, Malaysia also has the same five daily adzan as Turkiye. So, since the cost of living in the two countries are comparable, for people from four season countries the questions are boiled down to just one, i.e., if you want to experience living in tropical country Malaysia is the obvious choice while Turkiye gives you the experience of living in moderate Muslim country with European atmosphere.

    • @snailtravelers

Wonderful comparisons. Loved both countries as I have been to Malaysia 5 times and Turkey 3 times.
Food: Turkey win but Malay food is pretty good
    Housing: Malaysia win
Shopping: Turkey Win although shopping in Malaysia was good.
Driving: Malaysia win (as I drive on the left side in the UK so it is much easier for me)
Price: Malaysia win - it is cheaper
    Communication: Malaysia Win
    Internet Speed: Malaysia Win
Weather: Malaysia Win but Turkey is pretty good although I hate the cold
    Transportation: Definitely a TIE

    Healthcare: Definitely Malaysia

Malaysia wins hands down. Vegetarians and vegans will be hard pressed to find a vegetarian restaurant in Turkey, whereas in Malaysia they can be found everywhere. Almost everyone speaks English in Malaysia; not so in Turkey. Shopping is a pleasure in Malaysia with its ultra modern malls. Malaysia is a food paradise; visitors come from all over the world just to sample its cuisine. Turkey’s food is just meat, meat and more meat. The climate in Malaysia is not much of a problem, as most buildings and public transport are fully air conditioned. What more do you want ? Visit Malaysia- you will fall in love with it.😊

Great video! We've been staying in Turkey for 3 years and now consider Malaysia as the next stop. The immigration policy in Turkey has become much stricter over the past two years and the economy hasn't been doing well either - costs for accommodation jumped 3-4 times in popular cities like Istanbul and Antalya so I guess right now Turkey might be significantly more expensive than Malaysia depending on the city. Still, we love Turkey a lot and are very grateful for its hospitality, great people and amazing places.

Thanks, and we completely agree with everything you said in your comment. Inflation in Turkey is horrible, and it can be difficult to watch how it is impacting the Turkish people. And, like you said, the weak economy and the fact that the immigration rules keep getting stricter has us wondering if we'll be forced to leave at some point in the future. We just renewed our permit for two years, so we know we're good to stay for at least the immediate future. Where have you lived in Turkey? Thanks for watching, and good luck with your transition. We have more videos about living in Malaysia on our channel page if you're interested.

Living permits are somewhat of a lottery here though, ha-ha 😄But we also traveled a lot to other parts of Turkey, like Mardin, Ankara, Konya and Istanbul. So yeah, will see :) Love your videos guys, already checked your travels in Malaysia and other countries - keep it up! 👍

    Hey guys! Great video!
I’m wondering about your take on buying property in Malaysia vs. Turkey as foreigners (with no residency). Do you have an idea?

    • @snailtravelers
      @snailtravelers  ปีที่แล้ว

Hey guys! Thanks for watching the video! We enjoy following your adventures around the world too! You guys have so much enthusiasm, and congrats on having such a successful channel. Maybe our travel paths will cross someday.
We originally planned to get MM2H in Malaysia. We applied and were just waiting for one more document and then the program shut down. When the program restarted the new financial requirements were too high for us. Sarawak's MM2H is easier but still a bit high for us. That's why we then considered Turkey.
We had no plans to buy property in either Malaysia or Turkey. We were going to rent. We had a few places ready to consider for renting in Turkey, then the government changed the immigration rules, making it more difficult to get residency if renting and easier if purchasing. So we started looking at purchasing, found an apartment in Izmir we liked at a reasonable price, and we made the purchase. The immigration rules have since changed again, and now there is a minimum value of US$75,000 if getting residency through property purchase. We're glad we made our purchase before the new rule, otherwise we wouldn't qualify. Also, prices have really gone up in Turkey over the last year, partly because of high inflation and also because a lot of people from Russia have come to Turkey. Prices in some places have more than doubled in one year.
We looked into prices in Kuching (loved your Sarawak videos by the way), and prices for property are higher there than Turkey, even with all of the inflation in Turkey. We found a studio in a new building in Kuching was around US$75,000 and up. But I believe foreigners are required to spend at least RM500,000 in Sarawak, and the minimum is even higher elsewhere in Malaysia like RM1,000,000, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
It could be difficult to buy property in Turkey without residency because we needed to show our residency permit to set up the electricity, water, internet, etc. There must be a way to do it because people have vacation homes in Turkey without residency, but we don't know how it works.
      Hope that helps.

@@snailtravelers thanks, guys! We want to start this new adventure of buying a property. Not necessarily for us to live, but mainly for a BnB, where we can also crash whenever we are there. Just trying to see where is the best possible place for us.

(I think a lot of people from China and North America have realized what a good and cheap country Malaysia is and the government has made those visa measures impossible).

I have been to Bursa & Istanbul, and Istanbul is a beautiful place. The food is more healthy than Malaysia, but our food is more delicious.

Try to use the power of one hand while you are crossing the road in malaysia, it feels like you have superpower that can control the movement of the cars while doing that

Oh yes, we saw people doing this when they were crossing the street in Malaysia. It is a very helpful superpower!

Crossing the street in Malaysia is scary enough but you can use THE HAND to stop the traffic.

We did see people in Malaysia using their hand to get the attention of drivers, it does seem to work. Thanks for watching our video!

Thank for the comparison. Well if we are not hot and humid, we will not hv our famous rainforest. Loved by the dinosaurs too.

The rainforest is indeed beautiful (and healthy for the planet too). We hope to visit more rainforest areas when we go back to Malaysia.

I have been to both, Malaysia and Turkiye.
    My ratings would be
    Malaysia 9/10
    Turkiye 6/10

Those ratings seem reasonable. Thanks for sharing!

I would love to visit Turkiye one day. I can imagine myself enjoying tea in a cafe in Istanbul while watching my wife going crazy petting all the cats there.😂

👍 Yes, if your wife loves cats then she will love Turkey!
