I'm shocked that there are so few views to this, especially with it being an official music video. Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders are in a league of their own.
For some years I worked in Brussels (I was seconded - long story. I wont bore you) and I travelled daily from my apartment in Tomberg to RP Schumann on the metro. One night after a typically non productive day in the EU HQ, I waited for my train home. On the Brussels metro stations they play music continuously. This song came on and all my cares were lifted. It was so comforting. Chrissy Hynde at her best. My train came and went. I sat totally absorbed by this fine music. Great music can even overcome the frustrations of working for the European Union.
As a believer in Ray Davies being far and away the greatest songsmith that England has ever produced, I respectfully bow to this wonderful version of Ray's creation.
I recently learned that Chrissy Hynde's was born in Akron, Ohio, and was attending Kent State University when students were shot dead by national guardsmen in 1970. I had just returned from Vietnam and was in a hospital bed at Fort Devens, Ma. when we wounded vets saw the news on t.v. A day I'll never forget. Shameful.
I got to meet Chrissy on 2/5/82 at West Chester State College in PA. She did "Birds of Paradise" for me, picking my request out from hundreds of others wanting to hear "Cuban Slide". She's the best!
His demo blows all the other versions away, this is pretty good though but it lacks the starkness of Davie's version. th-cam.com/video/f5-5NtkL_n4/w-d-xo.html
I saw the Pretenders supporting U2 in 1987 and I actually thought they were every bit as good. Lucky am I that I can just go to You tube and listen to Chrissie (and Stevie Nicks) almost whenever I want.
I remember this song from my past, it brings back happy memories. Chrissy Hynde is a legend in the music industry. I can't wait for the next great song.❤😂🎉😊
This is nice waltz with a brilliant French horn courtesy Mr Jeff Bryat.. Pete Farndon on the stand up bass, Marty Chambers on the swingin' waltz, James H Scott on acoustic and lead guitars.. Of course Chrissie on those lovely lead vocals.. That bridge too btw

First time I have ever heard this song and have known their music for years. But my first impression was she was singing about her. Literally! I was getting a bit excited then I listened again and thought maybe not. Love her music. Such a unique voice.
The Kinks "Stop Your Sobbing".
Were they real? It’s hard to believe now. I was 19 years old, I used to listen to this album when I was getting ready to go out clubbing in the early 80’s. This song is like a dream.

Written by the great Ray Davies. Chrissie certainly does it justice! The 60s pop vibe is gorgeous!

Me recordó a Jefferson Airplane.
For me there's two Pretenders, both faces. One, with energy, creativity, and good rock, and another one empty, without nothing to say.
Most beautiful version of that song ever and equally cool video.
