  • An email led me to this decrepit 88 corolla (that's carbureted no less) but the price was right so lets sort some issues! Does it have a bad motor like the seller claims or was he scammed just the same?

    Aw yes, the Toyota that converted my family to be a TEQ family. Mom had a 92 Corolla after having GM after GM. That Corolla was so great and trouble free, she got a 98 Corolla and gave the 92 Rola to my older sis. I got that 92 from her in 2007. Sold it to a friends mom in need of a car bad in 2010 and she had it til 2019 when I surprisingly found it at a junkyard looking for parts on my Solara. So sad. In 2016 I got moms 98 Corolla. Well since then my fam has only bought Toyota minus-Dad still got a 97 Chevy truck, learned his lesson, and I got a Mitsubishi Mirage as a 1st car, good car actually but bad exhaust. Now I got a Corolla, Avalon, Tundra, & Solara. Mom/Dad have a Tacoma & Rav4. That 92 Corolla changed it all.

      I've had many Corollas over the years, my first was a 91 Geo Prizm and then I had a 93 Corolla DX and then a 95 and then a 97 VE and finally a 2000 Prizm, absolutely fantastic cars. This 88 is a handful due to the carburetor but it's getting a manual choke conversion soon, I appreciate all my viewers!

    This scarily looks like my old Corolla! It was a great car. I never had any mechanical issues, and the AC ran cold in our Florida Sun! I upgraded to a Camry after 10 years.

    Carolls royce my friend had one of these but in Australia half were branded as a Holden Apollo such well built solid cars. He had it for five years and he did 80000 kms and had five small accidents in it before it was yellow stickered he only paid 1200 for it.

    Holy crap that looks good on the outside! Growing up in the 90s i have so many memories of that interior. Friends of my parents had a loaded up corolla with all power options and the brick red interior .. i thought it was so much nicer than my parents *newer Grand-Am. Such quality!

      Might get one from out there and delivered to California off they’re dirt cheap. In America these cars 5k due to a lot of ppl wanting to fix and drive them, because of nostalgia.

    Carburetor shop said it had a bad carburetor huh? Maybe not. There's an AAP (auxiliary acceleration pump) diaphragm on the back of the carburetor on the passenger side. As they age, they dry up, leak fuel and need replacing. Otherwise the vacuum source sucks fuel into the #1 cylinder and floods it out, causing a well-timed put-put sound and no fire condition. The AAP's vacuum source shuts off once it warms up, which stops the fuel leak and let's that cylinder fire again. Unfortunately, running it with a bad AAP diaphragm will also ruin the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor over time.

      It ended up being the Aisin electric choke, it would just stick open no matter what which would cause that awful misfire until it warmed up, I replaced the carb (not knowing it was only the choke plate) with one off an 87 Corolla with a working choke and it went right back to idling smoothly, those people at the shop were 100% unhelpful surprise surprise

      @@jimmyjimjims7483 It's hard to find a good carburetor shop anymore. It's a dying art. I have an '88 Corolla with the 4AF engine too and 194K miles. Luckily I know a good carburetor guy here in LA.

    Thats less than what they could've got for scrap, or having picknpull come and pick it up for 280$. You scored. I got mine for 500$ lol I justify the purchase due to the several hundred watt Amp and 12" sub in the back, it hits hard. The interior is actually mint in my corolla

    • @Murtagh653
      @Murtagh653 ปีที่แล้ว

      he probably didn't want to scrap it unless he had to, better to get less money for it and see it running again than get a little more to send it to die.
