At 9:08 Nick doesn't need to pay 5 for Yuriko. Commander tax is applied for each time you have CAST your commander from the command zone, not for each time it has died. As Nick used her Ninjutsu ability to get her onto the battlefield her "Hardcast" cost remains 3.

I did not know that and assumed it was each time she reentered the command zone. Thanks for letting me know as I will definitely use that in the future.
@@Theronxz No, it's only for casting it from there. Here's the rule:
903.8. A player may cast a commander they own from the command zone. A commander cast from the command zone costs an additional {2} for each previous time the player casting it has cast it from the command zone that game. This additional cost is informally known as the “commander tax.”

Even if he was afraid of Conc Sphinx, there's a line where instead it comes in as Tasigur, mill the deck, and then come in as Thassa's for the win.
Con sphinx isnt a may and that combo runs at instant speed. He couldve forced ashani to draw out before he decked himself then kept going.
@@connorl0204 Con sphinx is a may. It makes sense that they would word it this way because otherwise, two Sphinxes on the battlefield would kill both players.
@@iambensummers to be fair, that would probably be a good thing. Youd have to be pretty silly to do that on purpose anyway, but theres so many ways to efficiently kill a sphinx so you could just draw your deck and kill one
@@thevp_ssb. if he was afraid of cons sphinx he just puts the omnath draw trigger on the stack, then puts student in as a sphinx
I might not be up to date on my rules here but I don’t think the game should be over?
With seedborn muse on the battlefield, Shawn untaps and has mana to spend during Ashani’s upkeep, meaning he can activate Tasigur, making a deal in order to return noxious revival to save both himself and whomever he made the deal with.
I know this assumes two things; one that anybody would be willing to risk the deal (given that Shawn can choose to save only himself), and two that noxious revival has not been exiled, but I find both of these assumptions at least moderately likely.
Regardless this was a great game, thanks for the content!

Couldn't Nick just draw his entire deck copying Omnath? Sure, Ashani will have his in hand too, but Nick would have infinite mana and Ashani wouldn't, or he could Ninjutsu the student into Sphinx in response to the Omnath trigger to force Ashani to not draw. Or he could student into Thoracle with an empty deck and win that way. Still, fun game!
Fun alternate line, use Tasigur to mill the library, then Thoracle to win. Lol.
To put it simply as I addressed this in the top comment. I was only allowed to connect with Yuriko cause I said I was going to make a meme play and not go for a win. So, I honored that agreement and did not commit to winning the game even though I could have. I did not think about the Tasigur mill line though as VP suggested. That I am going to keep in mind if it ever comes up again.

9:07 I think that yuriko cost only 3 to cast since the 1st time it was an activated ability, so tax did not increase on any cast before.

Even with the Conc Sphinx in play to maybe stop possibly looping with Omnath for student, he could've instead come in as a Tasigur, use Tasigur effect to mill the entire library, and then come in as Thoracle at the end. Lol.
Win without ever leaving combat. Lol.

I would like to know why Shawn went for DC even though he knew that Noah had a counter ready for it? I do not think it was a misplay, I think he did it on purpose, I would just like to know his reasoning. You guys teach a lot about interaction and timings, one of the reasons I love your videos.
One of the reasons I like to run Life from The Loam in my Tasigur build. A little built in protection from that particular line of play. Just keep dredging...The Nezahal would have been tough though. Possibly getting forced to draw after loam in is in the hand
12:15 Why did Ashani declare no blocks? Was there a deal being made? Was Yuriko unblockable?
He agreed not to block cause I was going to make a meme play and not win the game. Which is why I was allowed to connect and why I didn't win the game off that infinite mana. Otherwise, I was just going to pass the turn and still lose on one of their turns.
@@Theronxz Ah, now I understand. It wasn't mentioned in the narration so I was a bit confused, especially when you run high CMC cards that would have killed the table.

It's never a good sign for the Yuriko player when "hardcast" and "Yuriko" are in the same sentence...
To be fair, its never a good sign when the yuriko player says hard cast to anything at all
Thing is, he had the win and punted it, once he made infinite treasures he could have had Student enter as a Tasigur to mill himself, then return it to his hand and ninjitsu it back in as a Thoracle

@13:47 How come the Abrupt Decay "countered" the Gilded Drake? Surely the Gilded Drake needs to enter the battlefield first, and then Ashani would have to play it in response to a different game action from Shawn?
Well that was a fantastic game. Somewhat like the commander games I might play, with a higher power level but the same chaotic slug-fest feel.

Honest question, at 5:09 the paco/Haldan player used a land from exile. I thought you couldn't do that. He only says, "you may play noncreature spells". Just curious.
His wording was confusing on original printing, so they errata’d him to be more clear. It now says this:
“You may play lands and cast noncreature spells from among cards you exiled that have fetch counters on them, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast those spells.”

Why did the guilded drake ability fizzle if it still entered the battlefield? Doesn't abrupt decay destroy it and not counter it?
Because both have to be on the battlefield when the ability resolves. It’s how the card has been errata’d.
Wait a sec, shawn cast thoracle, then activate talisman (maybe for evolution…y not for a counter?) and then consultation.

The alternate cost says "exile from your hand". Not "cast from your hand". That's the cost, not the casting restriction. For example, you cannot escape Force of Will via Underworld Breach because Force of Will gained the escape of "3UU, exile 3 cards from your graveyard".
Does Sevinne’s reclamation only copy when cast from the gy once it has resolved?

Ashanti can't cast FoW from exile for it's alternative cost... That can only be done from hand 7:40
Force only requires you to discard a blue card from your hand, it doesn't say anything about where it can be cast from
At 9:55 Shawn could not have activated Wishclaw Talisman as it can only be activated at sorcery speed.
It can be activated at instant speed, but only during your turn.

Ashani would have his entire library in hand as well, but nick would still have infinite mana so yeah I'm pretty sure he would win.
@@drdavidchacon you can actually avoid Conc Sphinx for the win by instead milling the library with Tasigur, then Thassa's Oracle on field for the win.

Tasigur isnt on the field when he makes infinite mana, though you can respond to the first conc sphinx trigger with another ninjitsu of student becoming conc sphinx, either you both draw your deck with conc sphinx, or you just continue the omnath draws, then the last student becomes the thassa thats on the field and doesnt need to be cast, avoiding counter spells, and have your entire deck in hand to counter the stifle effect, if someone runs it.
Can someone explain how abrupt decay on gilded drake causes the etb effect to fizzle?
If you read the errata, it says drake has to be present to make the exchange.
if you have infinite mana and no cards why would you copy Draco instead of Sphinx?

Strange game, technically you should wheel the opponents after milling their lib to win the game by leaving enough cards in the lib. Much safer.

i feel like if i was at the table and omnath tried to put that intuition pile in front of me i would tell him to get something else for the other 2 cards or you dont get FoW and we both lose on the spot
Ashani should've used Mindbreak Trap for Breach.
He probably didn't draw into it until Noah casted Swords targeting Nezahal and drew two cards from the Nezahal trigger

You will still die to Breach on one way or another, no reason to run a dead card for that.
