Sounds exquisite, but hilariously vile production. I take it the use of the word "directed" here means that Mr. Christie was not responsible for the visuals, and that the choreographer who "staged" it is the guilty partner.
Yes. Bartoli started this affected cooing, crooning, gurgling, unsupported, overly aspirated style of singing and everyone was taken in by her on stage antics; critics fell over themselves convincing the public she was the most amazing singer in the world and the result is the terrible level of singing we hear today.
Marvelous piece of music, but the production????? The Liceu always does these crazy art installations. Also when will the world realise that Dido is a black woman, considering her history, both mentioned in this short opera, but gone into great detail in Berlioz's Les Troyens. But no, always a white face. Even the Met when they had the chance of casting Ms Norman, they chose her for Cassandra, the crazy, rather than the opera's love interest in Dido.
Well, she was of phoenician descent, so I though she would rather would have been semitic/generally east eastern mediterranian...but idk, I might be wrong
My favourite Purcell aria -wow stunning rendition, something different from the usual😅
Fantàstic …un moment verdaderament únic …gràcies . ❤❤❤❤❤
I know it's pretentious, but I would like this aria to be played from my grave, on a small solar-powered marble mp3 player...
; )
Absolutely shattering performance
You, Madam, are incredible. Your interpretation is incredible. I am a lifelong devotee of Jesse Norman, but you have surpassed. Incroyable!!
whats your favorite work of jessye norman?
My favorite its still the version with Malena Ernman but I appreciate the experimentation with the presentation here

Everything is expressed in music and words. What else then?
Why is she whispering? Is this a new style of vocalization?

There is a stunning video on TH-cam of Jessye Norman in gold costume singing this. It is the most sublime!
horrible
I'm genuinely curious, why do you think that?
@@felill.a.9159 Terrible because it seems as if every singer today is doing a terrible Bartoli impersonation.
