it's the classical musical concept of call & response. He's mastered weaving those soft delicate vocals right between his belts which makes it feel extremely dynamic and emotionally charged. But like most notables singers, it's not necessarily even his technique, but his timbre supporting that great tone everyone knows and loves. A lot of people have tried to sing like Jonny but his unique tone always stands out. Still a great video though and an awesome share!
His voice is pure magic, no other artist has the same level of “effect” when hearing his craft imo. When I stumbled upon this vocals in a few bands I was and am hooked. Ugh so good.

Chris I'm watching Johnny's Let it Kill you Lesson. His biggest strength is PASSION! I don't know Johnny or his music, but it's obvious to me his sound starts with passion, all else follows.
Jonny's voice is just insane, but what really sells me on this is Chris adapting these things to his own voice. This shows me, that he really knows what he's talking about and can help my voice as well. I'm sorry to ask you so frequently but here's another question: Should I be worried, if my larynx goes up,if I place the tone more forward? My previous voice trainings were almost like "keep your larynx always neutral" and this really bothers me.
Jonny craig just has the voice, if I wished to have any singing voice out of anyone in history, past or present it's Jonny. He has such a phenomenal voice, I've never used that word in my life, it's just that.
As a Baritenor I can vocally relate to Ol Jonny! We have a similar range and tone and it’s definitely helped me sell out venues before! He and I and other baritenors alike sing in the pocket lol Rasp or heated vocals as I call it is soo easily obtainable for us. I miss making music though, The Pandemic kinda put an axe in it for me!

There is NO denying he has one of the most talented, special voices in ALL OF MUSIC. As Long as he is SOBER, I am his biggest fan. A lot of musicians I enjoy (looking at you Mr. Tim Lambesis) have done some shitty things (Ian Watkins, WHAT?!) Jonny's I can forgive. Being a recovering addict myself, I understand where his head was at during his rough and shitty times. Stay up, Jonny, ONE DAY AT A TIME!

He's a natural, but he truly understands his intentions vocally. He sang those lyrics over and over with a different tone and different pitch placements and each one was perfect in its own construction. Picturing yourself on top of the note as a visualization just straight up added like a half an octave onto my mixed voice, wow that really connected. Getting up there was few and far between but now i feel super comfortable in that range, this was great. There are moments I can notice you help people get some concepts and explanations aligned on their own art, and that seems priceless! Couldn't help but notice that while you brought Spencer, Rick brought Misha a couple times as well. Periphery folks are awesome! And last but not least - hopefully you collab on anything in the future. You are both legends on the niche of your contents! Vocals are definitely Rick's biggest gap, so maybe there's convenience in there! (maybe even make him a good singer? lol) Take care!
I don't know if I should belt in mixed chest voice or full on rasp and power but it also depends upon the song and the part of it. Higher parts I sing mostly in mixed voice but with lower parts the powerful rasp may be better.
This is interesting I’m not copying anyone but Jonny has this weird thing I’ve been trying to emulate a bit in my voice. It’s truly harder than it sounds and is really impressive. His higher notes when he’s belting is impressive to say the least.
I mean, we can banter about the technicalities all day but 90 percent of the greatest singers in history had no vocal training until later in their career. It is a natural gift for alot of them and it’s great that we can dissect the process more these days but it’s not a weakness to not understand that process if you have the gift. Most don’t though
Very interesting... it seems to me that articulation changes drastically in a word TAKE. Diphthong 'ay'. Sometimes I hear the beginning of the diphthong more close to the "i" (as in 'Dip') when Jonny sings "take". When Chris sings "TAKE" to my ear it appears to be more rounder, closer to "oh" sound or /ɜ:/ british vowel as in "TURN". I noticed it also when I listened to the different bands...That diphthong is the most difficult sound for me to sing because I am not a native speaker. It would be great to find a video about the ways to sing that vowel.

How do you produce the first vowel /e/ in that diphthong is it the same like in a word BREATH? You know I'm not a native speaker we have similar sounds in russian but I think it differs. Hey Chris! This may go unnoticed because this is an old video but I have a question. Would you consider Jonny's higher range a mix or a belt? Through years of listening to him I've always noticed that he really doesn't seem to have a genuine falsetto, it just seems so seamless, especially back in the day like during his early dance Gavin dance work and the first Emarosa album especially. I may just be getting hung up on terminology but I would like to know lol. Thank you

@@xel_osrs I would personally call that a strong head voice, but that's kind of semantics lol. I think Jonny would probably admit his falsetto/head voice isn't that great, hence why he more often than not belts that part live, rather than uses another mode.
@@MichaelA-ue8gh it's definitely full falsetto. He has a lot of bassy undertones in his voice. It's why everyone tries to label him as a bari-tenor but he doesn't pull down to those low notes. I have a similar voice type to him without having as solid of a timbre

This is cool!! It seems like you’re fighting each other a little in terms of terminology but ultimately able to find common ground. Does Jonny seem to know what compression is or know if he’s doing it or be conscious of it at all???
Also, is there a difference in muscular effort between that backwards placement and the forward placement??
He has no idea what he’s doing. He just goes. :) but that’s what makes these kinds of singer fun to dissect!

Hi! 'e' vowel (like in bed and set) is my problem vowel. It would be great if your do more videos about that sound. It sounds different the way we speak it I guess!

@@chrisliepe thank you very much, watched them, very useful. But I mean short /e/ vowel like in BED. Also is there a huge difference between /e/ and /ɛ/? Also diphthong /ei/ like in TAKE. How do you produce the first vowel /e/ in that diphthong is it the same like in a word BREATH?
You know I'm not a native speaker we have similar sounds in russian but I think it differs.

Hey Chris! This may go unnoticed because this is an old video but I have a question. Would you consider Jonny's higher range a mix or a belt? Through years of listening to him I've always noticed that he really doesn't seem to have a genuine falsetto, it just seems so seamless, especially back in the day like during his early dance Gavin dance work and the first Emarosa album especially. I may just be getting hung up on terminology but I would like to know lol. Thank you
He doesn’t get that high really and it is all belt! He doesn’t use any mix techniques.

Really great knowing that and you're right, I think his highest note is around an E5 which really isn't that insanely high, probably just the tone and intensity that makes it sound so crazy! @@MichaelA-ue8gh bit late but It's safe to say you dig the backseats has genuine falsetto when he says sew the dream (alive)
@@xel_osrs I would personally call that a strong head voice, but that's kind of semantics lol. I think Jonny would probably admit his falsetto/head voice isn't that great, hence why he more often than not belts that part live, rather than uses another mode.
@@MichaelA-ue8gh it's definitely full falsetto. He has a lot of bassy undertones in his voice. It's why everyone tries to label him as a bari-tenor but he doesn't pull down to those low notes. I have a similar voice type to him without having as solid of a timbre
