      Watching you cook in such remote locations is so interesting, not just how you are able to do it, but the whole rationing aspect as well.

    With the advent of camera drones, a guide with a good knowledge of them could fly one over to the split up party and locate them. I think Jim would be a good adventure guide, don't you? What a gorgeous part of the world. Kind of like the Baffin Island trip without the frostbite. Thanks Jim

      Also, InReach devices can send satellite text messages from device to device along with echoer’s respective location. Not an ideal situation to be in to have to use that of course.

    I watch a lot of back country canoe videos but you are still the man Jim. Your wilderness destinations, video techniques, dialogue and sense of humour are not matched anywhere else that I have come across. My preference is your solo trips. It has this feel like it is you and the viewer doing the trip. Keep up the great work!

    Your filming of this extraordinary land is first rate, as is music choice and editing. Your story-telling, skill with the paddles, explanation of what's needed for this level of canoeing, the maps, fishing, camping, cooking, humour, singing, everything adds to our enjoyment. Each of these is special in its way and really, I don't think can be separated. Your personality is made for such adventures. You are a rare man Jim, doing epic things in remarkable ways. Looking forward to your hike.

    You mentioned the patrols of the North West Mounted Police or NWMP from Dawson City, Yukon to Fort McPherson, NWT.
    Those yearly patrols starting in 1905 covered some 550 miles of tough and very cold terrain by dog sled. Near the end of 1910, when one of the NWMP patrols was returning from Fort McPherson to Dawson City, they got lost near the Little Wind and Hart rivers. With severe winter conditions and low provisions, they decided to head back to Fort McPherson, about 250 miles away and almost one month after they had left there. Turns out that no one from that patrol survived.
    Near the end of February 1911, after the patrol fail to arrive in Dawson City, a Corporal Dempster led a search party and found the bodies of the lost patrol.
    The highway that starts just a little east of Dawson City and travels up to Fort McPherson and then on to Inuvik NWT, was named the Dempster Highway after the Corporal. It roughly follows the path that the NWMP patrols would take between Dawson and Fort McPherson. Near the end of this November will be 40 years since my wife and I had moved from Sault Ste. Marie up to Inuvik. Halfway up the Dempster Highway, way up in the Yukon mountains, is a hotel, restaurant, and gas/service station complex at a location called Eagle Plains. Inside the restaurant are pictures showing some of the history of the lost patrol and another real life character who led the RCMP on what has been described as Canada's largest manhunt in early 1932, the infamous Albert Johnson (may have been an alias), otherwise known as the Mad Trapper of Rat River. That's an adventure story you need to checkout. The History Guy on TH-cam had a video on that story back on September 2, 2020.

    • @JimBairdAdventurer
      @JimBairdAdventurer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot for sharing those details about the lost patrol. I’d read a little about it in the book wild rivers of the Peel watershed. They were found around hungry lake which is not too far east of the Hart. The books shows the route between McPherson and Dawson to travel a good bit further east than the Dempster. Didn’t know the Dawson was named for a member of the lost patrol either. I have read a book on the mad trapper, crazy story. Thanks for sharing. Have been to Inuvik once but just a fairly brief lay over. Pretty cool that you moved there. Thanks for watching and have a great day. Maybe I’ll bump paths with you in the north some time.
