    I don't think a Seiko collection can be complete without having a Marinemaster.

      If funds would allow, I’d get one even tho it would be pretty big for me. My wrist size ranges from 6-6.5 inches

      Problem is its too expensive to be a 'seiko'.many people might feel they should skip this step and save for a GS or luxury swiss watches.

    I have one and was amazed at how quickly I got used to the weight and size. I think being a bigger build helps the watch suit me fine despite smaller wrists. It looks like a solid man’s watch and not huge or crazy big like some of the watches out there. Mine is +1spd and has hardly left my wrist since I bought it. I actually sold off most of my watch collection and kept this and a GS springdrive along with a vintage omega. It was that good it stopped me wanting any other divers/sports watches.

    That looks like one big, beautiful beast of a Seiko.
    Like a 007 on roids.
    Thing for me is, at that price, it’s a bit too ‘tool-tastic’. I think if I were spending my own cash I’d want something a bit smaller, a bit thinner, a bit more versatile. Still a great watch though! Hope Bruce keeps it this time. Lol.
    Edit: I JUST BOUGHT ONE (2024)

    Seiko have some odd sauce in their large case watches - I've got this, plus the SBGA031, both theoretically big watches (43mm+) and yet, they fit really well, and they wear better than for example, the Seamaster Pro 300m from 2018 - I've got all three, and the Seikos wear nicer.

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Definitely a nice watch the MM300. I would imagine since it has a relatively high-end Seiko movement, one which I believe they used to or a slightly downgraded Grand Seiko movement, it's one you'd most likely have to send directly to Seiko to service and perhaps in turn it may end up in Japan possibly.. unless they have a Seiko service center in the United States that handles these types of watches and their movements.
    Now would be a good time to get a MM300 since they are discontinued. Additionally, from what I've seen, all the new MM300's that are coming out will be even more expensive than this SBDX017 since they are all limited editions, as far as I can recall from Baselworld 2017.. not to mention a bunch of the other very nice, but also very expensive and limited edition watches from Seiko and Grand Seiko this year from Baselworld.
    For me.. I've got other watches that exceed $2k and encroach or exceed $3k mark I'd rather spend than the MM300. but, it is no doubt a great watch and will be a classic, as if the entire MM line hasn't been already.

    Nice one Rob. I have this one, along with sumos, monsters, MMs etc. My bezel sticks a bit more than your one. I still love it. The lume is insane. It's not always easy to wear because it's bulky. But it's a keeper. Cheers

      The sumo on a crafter blue strap is insane value. My friend with a breitling couldn’t believe how cheap it was when I showed him it. Equally the sarb035/33 is another Seiko that is phenomenal value although discontinued so prices going up

      Would recommend the Seiko SBDC051 for $650-800 (has 6R15 movement, sapphire crystal, nicer bezel, and dia-shield coating).

    • @mcstarling07
      @mcstarling07 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or get an SBDC061/063. I purchased the 051 (the 62mas watch) and my friend purchased the 063. It looks similar to the marine master 300, but thinner, sapphire, 6r15 movement. I think I may like it more than my 051. Guess thats why they call the 061/063 the "baby marinemaster"

      JustBlueFish Watch Reviews, I own a Seiko Sumo and it is surprising how well these watches wear. The fit a lot better than their size would suggest and very comfortable. The size is what it is but then theh give it a perfect tight fight by curving the lugs down and not making the lug to lug feel so long. It feels compact and hefty that it makes it feel like it is very high quality. Try a Sumo if you are not ok with spending the price of the MM300

    The best value and bang for buck money, i prefer it to the new thousand dollar seiko divers, for only a thousand more you get so much more. Seiko realizes this too and soon they will discontinue the marinemaster and will hike the price of the replacement model.

  • @SPQR-Z
    @SPQR-Z 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just picked one of these up and yes, Seiko’s best diver. Everything that is best about Seiko divers taken to the next level. Do wish they would make smaller case sizes but the 44mm still works with my 7” wrist, barely. I think the actual bezel is 42mm so it wears smaller? People call this model the Japanese Submariner. Being a huge fan of Rolex Sport watches and having owned many Submariners, I’d have to agree.

    Nice watch, but much-MUCH rather have a Sinn U1 for $2,000 USD. I just have a number of issues with the MM300. Seconds hand doesn't match the min/hour hands' brushed surface, hate the Prospex "X" on the crown, and the bracelet clasp is very thick and causes problems when your hand rests on a desk/table/etc. And most MMs have hardlex, which is a joke above $500 these days. There is also a lot of cool things: crown at 4 o'clock, lume, bezel, power reserve, single case block, dia-shield coating, case polish. It's just at this price, I'd much rather go Sinn U1 or for a few hundred dollars more get a new Omega Seamaster ($2700 on Jomashop). I have a Monster and SBDC051 to scratch my Seiko itch.

    @theamericano3966 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Going to change hands for high prices now discontinued. On the downside. The U.K. concensus is that it stalled due to being £2900. So it'll be a few years before it gets classic status. New green bezeled (and dialed) version out soon. I think it's £3200 list in U.K.
    Yes, you go in from the front, same as the MM1000. I have a 1000MM your regional Seiko centre is armed to service.👍

      Random Rob I would really love to have something that looks like a SKX007k2 but in like a 47mm case. The 42 just is too small for me but man I love the simple looks of them.

    As big a Seiko fanboy as I am, I simply cannot justify the price of this watch and the lack of feature set to the competition. Hardlex (not sapphire) crystal, unregulated 8L35 4 Hz movement, lacquered (not ceramic) bezel insert, and a 20 mm bracelet width (the SKX is 22) for a 44 mm watch case is aesthetically unbalanced. I think it is a very attractive watch and know that people including Bruce love them. But for the same money I would rather spend it on 12 SKXes, or a Tuna and a Samurai and a Turtle. My hope is that when Seiko issues the new version of the MM300, they will address its feature shortcoming and can justify that price tag.

    Hi Rob,
    You can check this link out.
    Once the bezel assembly is taken off (turn clockwise to unscrew it from the watch case), there is an opening on the watch case just slightly below/beside the date window. Press that level down inside it and it will release the stem from the movement.
    Hope this helps.

      Tough question. More most I would say no doubt not do it. But for those that have done the journey and still want it then do it. For me I am happy with skx, monster, and turtle. I am hung up on the value of 200-500 dollar Watches.

    Any qualified and reputable watchmaker can service this watch with no issues. It is not the only watch on the market which has an unconventional way of opening to get to the movement and I checked with my watchmaker who's certified for the Swatch group brands, Rolex, AP, Seiko, Lange, etc and they told me that they have had several in for service over the last few years. But you said it has a hardlex crystal, Rob, to me it looked like a sapphire crystal with blue AR coating. The way it plays with the light. I haven't checked it online but at least to me it looked like sapphire and if I am not wrong, here in Europe it comes with a Sapphire as standard. Please take that with a pinch of salt, but I am quite sure I read that when I was looking to buy one a year back. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @zcharg0
      @zcharg0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Doe I think it has to do with its size and shape which make it aesthetically pleasing plus its low cost and non hacking and hand winding (who needs these things) makes it the ultimate tool watch. You don’t feel ashamed of it for being a “lower end” watch yet you can be truly confident wearing it. It’s the perfect balance.

    Lovely watch but IMO and as I recently commented on one of Bruce's reviews, Seiko's don't defy physics and are too large unless you're a Seiko fanboy of course. If any other manufacturer produced a majority of their watches in these dimensions they'd be ridiculed. As stated though... it's a lovely watch and your channel is great😊 And this is coming from a bloke with 8.25" wrists...

    It is very handsome and corrects many of the problems I have with Seiko divers, BUT, 20mm is far too narrow a bracelet for a 44mm watch. It should definitely be 22mm. I said the same thing about the Sea Dweller Deepsea. I am glad that this year they up-sized the bracelet on that one to 22mm.
