Captain Mike tells a story, your on the edge of your seat the whole time. Hour later feels like you went to a how too suspense thriller movie and came out with a book full of knowledge. Great seminar
Man, what a detailed animated explanation of how to day time swordfish. This has to be one of the best videos out there on how to do this. Great job Captain.
I caught a small sword of sydney australia in 60 mtr of water at 9 am. While fishing for kingfish. Also look into a spot called Eagle Hawk Neck tasmania.. Heaps caught 4- 5 mile off coast.
Always awesome Mike! Talk to me about the wind on connection to the mainline. I have spliced my own wind ons for years but my main line has always been mono. When I tied a Bimini twist in my 80 pound spectra and did the cats paw it sure felt whimpy. I was afraid the spectra would cut my hollow braid under pressure. And I was not feeling confident with the Bimini twist in my main line. So I went with a direct tie from my mainline to the leader using a fg knot, and cinched it down super tight. Am I overthinking it?

One of the better videos about daytime swordfish deep drop, I have a question though...do you splice the leader to the main with a knot or can use a swivel.
Thank you so much captain for detailed explanation. I m from Turkey and Noone knows about daytime swordfishing here! I tried about 5-6 times but still no bite. Generally we tried in 1800 ft, 150 ft of the bottom. These depths are generally mood here. Our ridges are generally around 900 ft, and we see sometimes big fish on our fisfinder 150 ft off the bottom at 900 ft! Should we try these depths? What is the minimum depths we should try for daytime swordfishing?
If you see it on the sounder you would be silly not to have a go, the odd one gets picked up here in New Zealand in under 300 meters while fishing for bluenose, hapuku and bass. Good luck
Outstanding seminar Cap! I'll be down the Keys chasing sails in November. May have to stop off Hillsborough and try this. Been a dream of mine. But what do you do if you do catch that 500 pounder? Boat the fish? Get it out of the boat? Process it? Lots of contingencies. Need more seminars! Again, thanks for the great video and stay safe out there.
Thanks for putting this out it was great. You mentioned keeping the boat in gear while heading into the current to slow the drift. Would a sea anchor/drift sock accomplish the same effect?
Negative, the Gulf Stream current is running at approx 5 knots, you have to keep the boat running into it to slow your drift, a sea anchor wouldn't slow you down enough. - Capt Mike
Nice vid 👍Personally I dont use electronic reels if it takes that too catch a giant I'm not interested of course to each there own.Call me old fashioned lol
hi, I would like to try the fishing technique in the Mediterranean Sea. I'm looking for advice. What types of baits can I use? Do I have to walk with the boat in favor of current or against current? speed?
No mention of Miya epoch reels . They are the original makers of electrics . They are used All over Japan. I just got mine and ready to go . I’m Studying maps for Monterey Bay Area we are all canyon so that’s were I’ll start also we have a couple mounts but everything is so darn deep .
The end of the 250 lb wind on leader has a dacron loop, connect to main running line with loop to loop connection (cat's paw). Instructions are on back of Diamond Fishing Wind-On packages. - Capt Mike
not all commercial fishermen are long liners there are a lot of commercial fishermen who use this exact same gear so it is very similar to commercial fishing
What makes it commercial for me is that you dont hand crank the fish. For resetting no problem to use the electric, but if you use it on the fish its not sportfishing
There’s all kinds for sure. But 2000 ft with 5 knots of current you don’t hand reel. That’s how we do it here. A bayliner lol. Hey I do it all in my j16 so more power to him. I high speed for wahoo. Reef fish. Deep drop. Bass fish lol. So it is what it is.
Very informative but I'm ADHD and I'm bored I want to see some fish nothing wrong with the video that I was very informative I'm very tired about taking a nap

Hey Mike, can you tell me what charts you're using and what transducer(s) you have on your Seavee. Thx!
I wish I had opportunities to go offshore and do this kind of stuff.
Why don't you? - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing I don’t have a boat
Gamerpro xzz you don’t need a big boat to go that far out I’m going 15 miles in my 15 ft Ali in Australia

My bro got a 335 n lost the bigger one a week prior
Oh shoot that beech
What if you had sky hook on your boat? Would you deploy different?
No, or you would risk tangling. - Capt Mike
do you guys salt the baits when u rig them up days before or no?
Best thing you said is no matter what you will lose fish..
20 miles 😆🤣😂. It's off NJ is 65 at best 😆🤣😂. I go 20 miles off NJ and im in brown 100ft water. But we get monster tuna in the soup

Do you need any type of permit to get them
Yes, you have to have a permit to do anything these days. Too many regulations! hmspermits.noaa.gov
capt mike question after you tie your bimini twist how do you tie your 250 lb mono top shop to main line braide r u usinga double uni knot thanks jt
The end of the 250 lb wind on leader has a dacron loop, connect to main running line with loop to loop connection (cat's paw). Instructions are on back of Diamond Fishing Wind-On packages. - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing thanks capt mike I just looked at that loop the other day thanks for the info JT

Thanks for watching. - Capt Mike
do you fish out of a 15 or 0 degree rod holder?
Some 15, some 30, depending on location/application. - Capt Mike

Do you have to deal with 5 knots of current in 1800 ft of water? - Capt Mike
Florida Sport Fishing yes we do mate , we use meters tho 👍🏻
@@williamcrosby6274 600 yard so 550m. So yeah, Mayor Knolls are that and only 30 kms from the ramp in my 5m cat. Still to nail one though.
Nz sword boys: just throw a bait over the side and don’t over think it 😂
If everybody kill all the fish that they catch there will no more fish over in a couple off years....CATCH AND RELEASE...
BLA BLA bla
All by cheating lol
Boy, this man can talk, there must be coke on that boat.
