    Great video,,, but a lot of drag, some drag, easy on the drag,,, those aren’t numbers. How much drag are we using, at strike, at fight, near the boat?

    Thanks Capt Mike for another informative seminar. Question - Offset vs Inline hooks - what do you think? I'm thinking maybe the inline when fishing .a squid bait....perhaps it'll have a better bait presentation. Again...thanks.

    We keep one but the commercial fishermen keep double digits and more putting them into the endangered list.

      Use a gallon tea jug you can retrieve and reuse. Put glow stick in jug. Rubber band. Or 6” 8-10lb mono.

    Can someone please explain why he says they don't fish circle hooks at night? Why the J instead of circle at night thanks

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just misspoke. You don’t use circle hooks on swords pretty much ever cause soft mouth. Commercial does cause bycatch undersized or cause it can work if not a lot of tension is placed on hook like with bouy rigs.

    The uni knot is good for 300 lb.

    • @MrT13

      100 and up crimp is better.

      @@MrT13 what do you mean better have you ever tried to break a uni knot with 100 lb line it will break your rod

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t break rods I use drags how they are supposed to be used within reasonable reel capability line size and rod rating. Yes you can tie 1000lb mono to 1/2” rope with a bunch of knots in it and hand line 5-600 groupers with it. I’ve done it. But crimps are better. When I’m tying another above 80 I use crimps unless it’s a bridled planer or trolling lead rig. Fg is ok gt is ok but only if you need it to be wind on. It’s quicker and easier to just have a crimper box and is definitely a better connection for big line.

    • @lachlanoneil8938
      @lachlanoneil8938 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrT13 Uni to swivels fg braid to mono , always and when i said it will break your rod i meant that the knot is strong enougb to there for the extra strength you think you get from a crimp, doesnt matter anyway.

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I like uni or polomar too. Still though when I go big like say a sword rig where it’s 80lb braid Bimini twist to fg 100’ of 130 crimp to swivel then 8’ of 300 I definitely don’t tie a knot in 300. Not on the swivel and not on the hook. I don’t knot the 130 either. I suppose you could but nobody around here does. At least I’ve never heard of it. Big bad fish and hand lining that last 20-30 feet if you knot that 130 that’s definitely the weakest link. I tie the ol single Knot twice so it’s double the line through the eye of the swivel and crimp it. Can’t imagine anything else being better. Single line on the 300.

    This guys a goof... no heart, he doesn’t want a 700lb sword? He wants nothing to do with it? Haha... 🥱

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He also says there’s nothing on the bottom from 5-750 feet. Gotta read between the lines sometimes. Older swords don’t taste as good either. It’s not a tuna. Too much for two ppl in many ways. Read old man and the sea sometime lol.

    • @MrT13
      @MrT13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He says goldens are from about 800 to 1000 for a reason too. About and then in though is the key. And he’s right. The bottom bite is opposite of what/where most ppl think it is/should be. But it looks good on charts and in kids fairy tales for where the monsters are supposed to live. I don’t fish for shark or tarpon, does that make me a goof? Lol
