    Captain Mike. I wanted to thank you for your videos. I've watched a lot of them. I'm a newbie who got into fishing because my son loves it! we bought a boat and have tried for almost a year to bottom fish, troll and high speed troll all with very little to no success. None the less we love being on our boat and being on the water. Yesterday we tried deep dropping for the first time after i saw your deep dropping seminar. And just like you said we went out to 800 feet out of hillsboro and we hooked up on rosies. The joy and excitement that my son who is 12 and I who am 40 when we saw that first fish was amazing. We had a great day and brought home dinner. I can't tell you how grateful I am for your videos. You do a great job explaining to the noobs like me. I don't mean ramble here but i just wanted to thank you again. we had a great day!!!! Please keep the videos coming , guys like me can use them. We are going to the keys in a couple of weeks for our first fishing trip . Please wish us luck and if you have any tips I would be in debt to you sir.

    I live in roatan, honduras. We fish deep drop from 750ft to 1200ft for all kinds of snappers and groupers with manual hand mills or 50w hand reels like real man do!!🤣 i like capt. Mike I put alot of his advice in use, specially on rigs. but you need 2 to 5 grand of gear to Fish like he does or recommends. There is cheaper yet still as effective ways of fishing. I get he is most likely sponsored by these big brands to promote this stuff. Your awesome capt. Mike good seminar. Me and 2 friends caught 260 lbs of snappers yesterday 7am to 5pm
    2 50w reels with ten hook rigs 2 1/2 lbs leds. 740 to 800 ft depth.
    20 miles off our island. Came back and gave all our catch away to family and friends. Best feeling the world

    Something I have learned through another captain that charters a trip I take at least once a year on an 72 + hour deep drop is once you know that you have a fish most of the time being a gray tile let it sit there for minute longer because grouper come to inspect once there is a disturbance and typically you'll catch a tile and a grouper at the same time. Therefore I run a 3 hook setup

    Capt Mike, where did you hone your lecture skills? Very impressive sir (and I’ve lectured and taught in various post grad programs and it takes practice!). Btw, what is the hot zone for rosies? Never gotten around to deep dropping and would like to score some dinner on Saturday. I saw you guys on sat am when I was pulling out of Alsdorf, Happy to see you on water. Saturday sucked for me, how did you guys do? Thanks again for all your hard work

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the kind words. I just talk, nothing special, thank you again though. On Saturday we jigged ten blackfin tuna, largest was 20 pounds. Pulled the hook on a couple other mystery fish, thats about it. Current was screaming, tough to fish where I wanted to. Hot depth for roses is 775' around structure, including ledges, exposed rock, etc.

  • @Tony-uf3sq
    @Tony-uf3sq 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    love the video, one question about the top shot.. would you need a mono topshot deep dropping in 1000ft+ ? Since there's so much braid out I would assume the bow of the braid due to current will act as a spring for any movement from the fish/boat.

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive fished both ways, braid to swivel and braid to 25 foot mono top shot. Ive had excellent success with both but in the event of tangles and/or crossed lines with any one else deep dropping, and for teh extra elasticity when straight up/down, mono top shot is way to go. Capt Mike, Great seminar, I was glued to the video presentation and hope to attend one soon. Any info on the Stuart/Jupiter area? I just moved here from Miami and find the fishing to be somewhat different, I go out through the St Lucie inlet, I just got a deep drop rig, Tanacom 1000 and I'll be heading out soon, seems my target depth of 400-450 is a tad past 3 miles here, any advice?

    Thank you so much captain for the great informative interesting video 👍🏻 I have 2 questions:
    1- can u recommend a battery for my Tanacom 1000 , I know I need a marine deep cycle one but can u recommend a brand or specific one , also I heard that I can use a jump starter instead of the battery , is that true ?
    2- which vmc circle hook u recommend for tilefish , I know u use size 9/0 but which model u recommend
    Thank you so much

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you looking for portable battery, as there are options with smaller batteries you can carry around for 100% mobility, otherwise any quality 12V deep cycle battery will keep that running for days. VMC #7385, 9/0 for big tilefish and golden, a 5/0 for shallower water/blueline tilefish. - Capt Mike

      @basselazeem8205 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Florida Sport Fishing - thank you for replying , yeah I would like to know the options for a portable battery as most of the deep cycle batteries I found r over 20Ib and i don’t wanna keep disconnecting the cord every time I need to move

    Hi Mike.
    Great video, watched it many times.
    I have two questions i cannot find at noaa or fwc
    1. what are the 2018 fed/state regs on barrel fish?
    2. If I have 100 pounds of 1 unregulated species like gray tile, can I also have 100 pounds of another unregulated species. or is 100 pound of both species combined the max.

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question on the barrelfish, not sure if there are any regs, likely falls under the 100 lb. category, and that is per species, however that would be an excessive amount of bottom fish to harvest in a single day, big family? - Capt Mike

    • @Dansssssify
      @Dansssssify 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike, No big family but lots of friends and a 4 hour tow each way. Still no plan to retain that much. My main concern was going over by 60 pounds of one species and 55 of the other. Worse, getting cited for keeping a species I think is a different species. This is because I have been here only 2 years. Grouper like Gag, black, Scamp and Warsaw can look similar, especially at different ages. Sure appreciate the jump on the area you have provided in your videos. The live picts of just caught species really help. would love to see a seminar on how to ID each species that looks like others including side by side images of just caught. The little images on FWC and Fed apps just do not show much. Look at 'amber Jack, Lessor Jack and Almaco Jack + one more all look the same in the little picts but the regs are way different.

    Have you considered using a trolling motor to keep you in place (new ones with GPS and spot keeper)???

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have used similar trolling motors in many inshore venues with excellent results. We have not used trolling motors offshore but certainly an option, not only with electric trolling motors but also with virtual anchors and spot lock associatted with outboard engines. - Capt Mike

    I really enjoyed this video, I'm new at deep jigging I have the Daiwa Mega Twin which I use for Amberjack, Grouper and Snapper, I have one question if you have time to answer, I have my mono leader tied to my braid but if I'm using a lead weight at the other end do I use a shorter lighter piece of mono in case my weight gets hung up or tie directly onto the heavier leader I'm using? example if my mono leader is 100lb, what weight would that short piece be connected to the weight??????? thank you

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent question. When deep dropping, I typically attach lead directly to bottom of deep drop rig. My thought process is that one of the 3 to 5 hooks is what is going to get hung, not the lead. - Capt Mike

    I don't want to sound foolish by asking this, I understand why you would go heavier on the topshot but in the event of a snag, would the hook give before the line? just curious, and im a newbie to this

  • @olleriina
    @olleriina 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. I fish from florida panhandle, are the depths for different species same or is it completely different from Atlantic? Also we were out there deep dropping last year 720ft with no luck except one little snapper (forgot what it was called). It was mud bottom, my question is after weight hits the mud should i pull it out of there or just free spooling while drifting ?

    • @FloridaSportFishing
      @FloridaSportFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on current, ideally, drag baited rig across bottom at .5 to 2 knots, more than that and you have to free spool occasionally to stay in touch with bottom depending on depth, current, weight, etc. Look for structure! - Capt Mike

      Olle Kuusik where do you fish in the panhandle? I deep drop a lot and catch a lot of Golden’s, barrels, yellowedge, snowys, seabass...maybe I can point you in the right direction. I can tell you those fake squid tipped 5 hook setups will work more on the grouper..... not on the golden tiles in the northern gulf. Bait is key up here too. I’ve tested a lot of this...... catching 20pd Golden’s constitently. They key is bonita

    • @bhunter11
      @bhunter11 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll give you something I’ve figured out over 15 years of dropping..... get some or find some rapala rattle trap or thicker walled bass lures with rattles. Take off the hooks. Thicker cause of pressure down deep..... then zip tie one to your weight. I also use a 3 color disco always for tiles. Fresh Bonita is the best for Golden’s.... tested it over and over again vs squid vs 2 reels dropping 10 feet apart and the. Bonita gets bite over squid. Grouper love Bonita too. But that’s 15 years of unique inside tips buddy. Let me know where you fish. I fish out of orange beach and consistently catch lots of fish

      When fishing at no light zone below 600 feet, I always put a light in the top of the rig. Green chemical glow stick 2 or 3 inches.
      Also I use circle hooks because the fish will hook itself.
      And like last tip try as bait chiken raw meat because will last longer on hook than fish
      Good luck
