    What was the point of the step up transmission? It barely has the power for it.

    Learned something Thank You fr sharing I have a couple of sherman tranys but they are controled by a big knob on the dash. I was told they are hard to find....

    Please give some examples or uses of why someone would want a step-up or step-down Sherman transmission compared to the regular 3 or 4 speed standard.

    I don't know as I am trying to learn before I purchase. Isn't there Shermans for 8N that are both step up and step down in the same box? If trying to determine that on a running tractor during a test drive, wouldn't it be easy to tell if I was able to step it up and down (push lever towards center of tractor then either forward or back?) ? Help.

      Yes there are combo Sherman both up down and direct drive. Watch some of my other Sherman videos might be helpful

    Is the Hupp hi-lo auxillary transmission any good?

    • @kirk-nj6344
      @kirk-nj6344  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hupp dual drive is a good trans but the sherman is easier to get used parts for if you need them

  • @robbobcat7286
    @robbobcat7286 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    would you prefer the sherman trans for brush hogging/cutting?

    • @kirk-nj6344
      @kirk-nj6344  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sherman trans will also effect the speed of the PTO so it's up to you. if you can find the right gear to run it that will put your pto at the right speed it shouldn't be a problem and you might even save some gas. it would also depend on what you are cutting and how high it is. An ORC should also be used.

    ok, it's two ranges simple as, clear as mud. (-:
    Pretty much a Step up has a faster road speed, and step down is like low low on a Jeep type tranny?...more grunt at lower speeds..slower max speed at high rpm? I'm tossed a little.
    I was just handed over my grandfathers..said 1943 2n.
    umm, so top speed on a step down maybe 17mph then slower, and step up maybe 20/25 mph in high range?
    I recall dad shifting and rpm higher in the '60s during wagon rides dragging a stick in the sand behind in the wagon, but I don't really know. Few years back I drove it after fifty some years of wonder, and so amazed that I never asked. Third gear on two hunert acres waza hoot, and very happy I acquired it.
    Now I need a lean two. The old converted chicken coup is full of other stuffs. (-:
    tips me hat ~

      In your grandfathers 2N, if it had a step down sherman, in third gear, at full throttle, with the shermen engaged the top speed would be 8.01 MPH
      If the tractor had a step up tranny, in third gear, at full throttle, with the sherman engaged the top speed would be 18.12 MPH.
      The sherman combo trans will have both a step down and step up as well as a standard range. My other videos might help you ID your shifter as to which trans you have

      Thanks Kirk, I'll take a peek.
      I'm still a bit confused because you say step down engaged and I wonder of speed in Normal range?
      No biggie I suppose. I figure it out after your other vids and drive it again.
      ~ 'n cool, my cousin told me they rebuilt the carb and it jumps to life. ;-)

      If you have the same style handle as shown in this video it will only be a sherman step up or step down transmission. it will not be both. In other word the step down will have a standard gear range and a step down range. The step up will have a standard gear range and a step up gear range.
      At 1000 RPM your standard gears are;
      1st 1.79 MPH
      2nd 2.31 MPH
      3rd 5.34 MPH
      In the step down range
      1st 1.18
      2nd 1.53
      3rd 3.53
      In the step up range
      1st 2.68
      2nd 3.44
      3rd 7.98
      The step up or step down transmission will also effect reverse and your PTO speeds.

      Howdy Kirk. I was given the tractor last week and I had a great time learning to drive it like a...well..a seasoned farmer. (-:
      3rd gear what feels like standard range, feels what could be 8mph.
      Sherman gotta be a step up. Cranked up in 3rd gear felt like my golf cart which I clocked at 17mph via GPS.
      The old Ford gets up and boogies.
      Thanks for your time.

      lol, I did learn to drive it without the herky jerky take offs. Much needed for backing in the old converted chicken coop as shed. 6" clearance each side, one along the wall, the other a metal fender to my utility trailer.

    Will a howard from a Massey Ferguson T20 fit a Jubilee?

    • @kirk-nj6344
      @kirk-nj6344  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It's not a bolt and go. They made a different howard for the Jub/NAA and later one for hundred series.

    why dont just engage the sherman a drive the tractor to see ???

    • @kirk-nj6344

      Sometimes the tractor are not running and basically this video is for and on some of the tractors that are running people don't know how to shift them. They call them a high and low
