Sherman transmission. Will it fit in my Ford 9n
มุมมอง 443ปีที่แล้ว
Not sure what happened in the last part of the video??? Anyway to find out which shaft you have in your 9n. You need to take your fill cap off the trans cover and shine a flash light inside to see if it’s straight cut or it has been changed out to the helical cut gears

Got the Jake G10 running today no smoke and the 3PT works good. The clutch is stuck. Won’t waste time with snake oils cause pulling the engine anyway. It’s a 192

This is a great video, most people would not think of this, I made an adapter for my Milwaukee impact to bench test pumps that would work great on the tractor with a locked up motor
Absolutely horrible video 😆 wow don't give up your day job
I don't know as I am trying to learn before I purchase. Isn't there Shermans for 8N that are both step up and step down in the same box? If trying to determine that on a running tractor during a test drive, wouldn't it be easy to tell if I was able to step it up and down (push lever towards center of tractor then either forward or back?) ? Help.
Yes there are combo Sherman both up down and direct drive. Watch some of my other Sherman videos might be helpful
I have a 680
Nice. That’s a rare one
Please give some examples or uses of why someone would want a step-up or step-down Sherman transmission compared to the regular 3 or 4 speed standard.
Did you buy this in Ohio by chance?
This explains the operation but does not explain how to adjust quadrant for settings.
Beautiful machine! 👍
Is it a 22-44?
Yes it is
This guys knowledge is great kinda the Clint Eastwood of Ford tractors!
Why is your tractor backfiring? Mine is doing the same thing all of a sudden and I want it fixed.
It's an occassional misfire. Mine has done it for as long as I can remember. Clean points and plugs will improve it as well as the overall condition / tune of the carb but any N series I've come across has done this to some degree.
Funny how people saying its a 1939. Looks like a 1940 to me with the smooth hubs aluminum dash and 4 spoke wheel. My 47 2n don't have all that.
I have two or three shermans with the cable that has the big knob on the dash......I was told it's rare
The cable sherman was the last of the step up or step down units before the introduction of the sherman combo. Not a lot of cable units were sold although I wouldn't call them rare
Learned something Thank You fr sharing I have a couple of sherman tranys but they are controled by a big knob on the dash. I was told they are hard to find....
Great walk around video.👍 Going to make a fixed drawbar on mine. Thanks for the Great shot of how it was back then.
Good day from Ontario. Yrs ago the ford 4000 had options, crooked lever which gave u 12 speeds. So that must have been 3 spd aux. & 4 spd regular. Thanks very informitive
Thanks for all your Sherman info. I’m keeping an eye out for one
I have a few for sale if interested. Email is Kirk641@embarqmail.com
thanks for the information it. its much appreciated.
I had a 39 ...it had a Sherman....never should have sold it
Yes ‘39’s are getting to be collectibles
Great explanation. Nice to have a step by step method instead of randomlt fiddling with it, as I have for years! I still use my 1940 9N for bush hogging & also keeping dirt roads in shape with my rollover box blade.
That front tire looks low on air! Lol
I've got a 1940 I got years ago with a 1 bottom Ferguson plow she's all original , she has a Sherman step up . And I have the original Sherman warranty papers which is neat . And a real nice Ferguson pull type disc which opens and closes when you pick up the lift arms . If I come across a small gen . I'll let you know it's nice to keep stuff original. Generator has one wire . and a neat little regulator. I love my little Fords . great videos !
Thanks
Beautiful . Be nice to have original 6 volt gen. I've got one with a tiny 6 volt gen.
Yes would be nice to have the beer can genny for my early’39. If you want to sell it please let me know
Kirk ..you still around ?..I just got a 52 8n..and it has a foot throttle and a lever on the rt side coming back under the steering arm ....is that high...neutral...low...?..thanks
Yep still around send me a photo of what you have. Email Kirk641@embarqmail.com
Thanks kirk I'll send it when I get home
Is it for sale
The plow has been sold
Nice! Great idea!
I sent you my phone number to the email provided. I hope you received it. ken
I am looking for an original type snow plow for my 9n tractor, do you have any for sale or know where I could get one. I live just over the border in Pa. near High Point, NJ. thanks ken.
Might have a Dearborn snowplow. Here’s my email send me a phone number so we can talk. Kirk641@embarqmail.com
Thats good stuff. I sort of figured that out by accident one day, while running my scraper bucket, on my 2N. I live on the side of a gradual hill (4.25 acres), with uneven ground. Its a good trick to know when brush hogging. Keeps me from putting ruts in my grass. I used to dig the brush hog into the ground in certain spots. My wife would get mad at me for making ruts. But using this trick has eliminated the ruts and I get a nice even cut on the grass.
Great video. 👍 I have collected a few Sherman transmissions; I need to get busy a install them. 😆
I have 2 of the rear jacks. I need to make the loop for the front. I see you posted the plans in the description for everyone👍
Great idea. You have a new subscriber. I like your Ford N series video's.
I love to have that plow
That’s pretty neat. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
Or you could just get on the tractor and try it!
Video was geared towards non runners
I have a cast handle. Real low gear. Plow puller
Might be a step down. Check out some of my other videos. Leave comment and will get back to you
i know this is an old video but, anything else on that loader? ive got an old one in my barn, looking for any info i can find
The one on my tractor was a Wagner loader. If you have the same one go to Ntractorclub.com and on top in the red tool click on manuals then click on loaders then scroll down to find the manual you need This could be helpful
@@kirk-nj6344 thanks! I got a Wagner and a deerborne. There’s hardly any videos of these on TH-cam.
If it's a dearborn you can find a PDF of the original manual online.
Add a Everett aux trans between the Howard and the standard transmissions and if you really wanted to go slow then engage the Sherman step down
😆
Is the Hupp hi-lo auxillary transmission any good?
The hupp dual drive is a good trans but the sherman is easier to get used parts for if you need them
It is the Sherman and a Hupp transmission the same… I see a couple Hupp over/under transmissions on eBay but I’m not sure about them so I’m reluctant to buy it
Hupp and sherman are not the same trans although they are similar. I would only buy from someone who deals with sherman trans rather then someone on ebay who is parting out tractors looking to make a quick buck. Condition is a big factor with these units.
Ghost ride’ the whip
Well done very informative..
Thank you, explained in a lucid and informative manner..
How did you come by that motor in that tractor if I can ask ya 🤠
4.3 V6 from chevy blazer
where can I find one of these Ferguson T0 30 tractor jack I need one
He has a link in the description. Here you go . Link: ntractorclub.com/howtos/pdfs/Tractor%20Jack%20Plans.pdf
Nice!
What is a "creeper"? Im assuming thats 'step down'?
Yes the one in this video is a step down. The step down trans has a 1.5:1 reduction. The sherman creeper (special purpose) trans has a 9:1 reduction. This will also effect the pto speed. The howard trans has a 3.5:1 reduction and the everett trans has a 98:1 reduction. The howard and everett are behind the main trans so does not effect the pto speed just the ground speed.
I need these parts for my Ford 8n 1951
