President Dieter F. Uchtdorf shares a humorous parable of a man who realizes he has been living far beneath his privileges.
There once was a man whose lifelong dream was to board a cruise ship and sail the Mediterranean Sea. He saved every penny until he had enough for his passage. He dreamed of walking the streets of Rome, Athens, and Istanbul. Since money was tight he brought an extra suitcase filled with cans of beans, boxes of crackers, and bags of powdered lemonade, and that is what he lived on every day. He would have loved to take part in the many activities offered on the ship; he envied those who went to movies, shows, and cultural presentations, and oh, how he yearned for only a taste of the amazing food he saw on the ship. But the man wanted to spend so very little money that he didn't participate in any of these. He was able to see the cities he had longed to visit, but for the most part of the journey, he stayed in his cabin and ate only his humble food. On the last day of the cruise, a crew member asked him which of the farewell parties he would be attending. It was then that the man learned that not only the farewell party, but almost everything on board the cruise ship, the food and entertainment, all the activities, had been included in the price of the ticket. Too late, the man realized that he had been living far beneath his privileges. We live beneath our privileges when we fail to partake of the feast of happiness, peace, and joy that God grants so bountifully. We can be satisfied with a diminished experience and settle for experiences far below our privileges, or we can partake of an abundant feast of spiritual opportunity and universal blessings. As you read the scriptures and listen to the words of the prophets with all your heart and mind the Lord will tell you how to live up to your privileges and we will be able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

My parents were not happy when I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. I often asked Heavenly Father to soften their hearts. Now, they often attend church service with me when I come home from college. I am so grateful for Heavenly Father to bless my family.

I was married to a wonderful Catholic man, 34 years ago. I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints 33 years ago. Hubby is still Catholic although he doesn't go to Church. No matter what love your husband, treat him like he is the worthy Priesthood holder he may become in the Eternities. ♥ Never, ever give up hope.

I think sometimes we deceive ourselves into not realizing what God wants to bless us with. We think we're not worthy or think that someone else was blessed naturally with spirituality and understanding and that could never possibly happen in our lives. Well, quite the contrary. We reap what we sow. There are no limitations to what God can do.

It's the best decision I ever made in my life! I was baptized at BYU Hawaii, when I used to come to Hawaii to surf. Met my wife there, got baptized. 15 years have passed, and I'm so grateful for my decision!

I was born and raised with the Catholic faith. I recently became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints and I have never felt so close to Heavenly Father than I do now. I hope you have met with the missionaries in your area...if not, you should. They have so much they can share.

"a humorous parable"?? this story makes me so sad every single time! I know I need to hear it though, because I know I am often that man... which is probably what makes it so painful.

Just call your local LDS meetinghouse and ask for the missionaries to come and talk with you. You will NEVER regret it. I was very doubtful, but I have never looked back, and have loved my life so much more since joining. Keep me posted?

Good luck! I'm a convert of just over three years now, and this is the best decision I have ever made for myself. My Ward family has been there for me through so many trials.
