If you're a North American visiting Edinburgh, and you feel homesick, then I guess you can head to St James Quarter. It's like every big shopping mall in the US and Canada. Even reminds me of the one in Dubai. I'd rather give my business to the smaller local shops, but the mall does have it's place.😊
Glad you are back for Saturday mornings. My best to you & your family. Great intro to St James Quarter. Hopefully most if not all stores will be fully in place when we travel again next year. Added to our rainy day to-do list thank you 😊
Had a look around the other day it's a lovely Shopping Centre. They also have Screens in a few of the lifts that change colour and show different things
Great to see you back Tony. Best wishes to you and your family. This was a great video haven't been there myself yet. I can't believe there was a fire alarm and evacuation. This was a great insight into the new St James's Centre. Great video Tony! :)
Hi mate, I delivered to Krispy Kreme there up to last week. All deliveries are done underground and as yet still not finished. I remember the old centre very well in my youth. My Grandmother was in charge of Haberdashery in John Lewis for many, many years. How things have changed. Stevie in Fife.
Great to see you back, awesome video, can’t wait for the end of COVID so I can get over there again and see it for myself, thinking of you all, take care xx
It's nice. I like the natural light that is allowed in. Fancy that, a fire evacuation caught live with your first visit. Thanks and it's great to have you back.
I live in Edinburgh and I've been to the new centre a couple of times and my verdict is i like it though not everything is open or finished yet. The hotel is officially due to open until next year.
Hiya Tony, so good to see you again....To give you an update on fire procedures....Generally speaking if an alarm goes off in a large building the fire and rescue do not respond unless,..unless it is backed up by a 999 call meaning there is a genuine fire and a need for a response.. This is to cut down on fire engines responding to what is actually a 'false alarm' such as someone deliberately setting of the alarm as a prank in case they are needed at a genuine incident elsewhere. In certain circumstances fire engines do respond but this can depend on the building type, these are called AFA's or Automatic Fire Alarms and are usually activated by smoke detectors etc. Out of business hours, fire engines would respond automatically to check out the premises and call for back up if needed....hope this helps.
Tony , i wish you , Kirsten & your wee daughter all the very best after your sad loss. Love the St James Quarter including the inspiring copper ribbon design of the W hotel not due to open for at least a year , there will be some of the best panoramic views in the city from the top 3 floors including an amazing restaurant , fun fact : the walnut whip was actually invented in Edinburgh in 1910 by Duncan's confectionary !. That concert hall called the Dunard centre that you mentioned was going to be built behind the old Royal Bank HQ in St Andrew's Square but the owners of St James objected to the height of the building blocking the view !. Definitely worth another trip when Bonnie & Wild opens at the end of July , it will be unique in Scotland with its incredible mix of quality food & drink most of it sourced locally along with about 20 stalls , shops & bars.
Once Bonnie and Wild open that might be worth a video it's a Foodhall where independent local business will be able to set up their business. Looks great.
Good to see you back. Interesting video, looks like a nice enough place. I hope its kinks get worked out in time, I'm sure after a 1B investment and recent flooding certain ppl will be getting itchy feet. All the best.
Nothing Edinburgh needed more than 5 more phone shops! But still glad to see so much investment going into Edinburgh and a new place to go while its raining 😂 looking forward to seeing more of the food places open!
Hi Tony I was hoping you would be doing St James. They had closed the old centre and were starting to build again last time we came up to Edinburgh, take care of yourself and your family. The pain never goes, but it does get less in time ❤️
Fire and flood in the first few weeks... it's definitely a more exciting mall than the old St James! Kidding aside, far, far nicer than the old St James Quarter. In fact, as I recall, it even looks a lot nicer even than Ocean Terminal.
Great to see you back! Hope you and your family are doing well:) Personally I think this place is a carbuncle! It's just like any shopping center in any city.. just MHO;)
Good to see our back, Tony! I remember seeing the growth of the building, the last 2 times I was in Edinburgh...it seemed enormous for that plot of land!! It's a fair option to do some shopping, if the weather is drab..crossing fingers for post Covid-19 prosperity! Great to have you back! Hello from Denmark 🌱🌸
"Lovely to see you again my friend". Last time I was in Edinburgh it was just a hole in the ground. Interesting design. Will it stand the test of time? Chomping at the bit to get back to Scotland. Soon hopefully.
I realize you probably filmed the video a while ago, but yesterday seemed to be the day for fires. A house a few doors down had a big fire and a friend spotted another big fire in town. We're sweltering right now (112 F or 44 C), so, your weather looks lovely.
Thanks Tony. You do realise this is going to cost me a fortune everytime we're in Edinburgh 😅 Shared your vid on Twitter & Facebook too to raise awareness of your channel 👍
Tony, am I rightly remembering that the old St James Place was mostly closed when I was in Edinburgh in 2009, ready for a redo? If so, that eas a long time coming!
I live in Corpus Christi Texas and would rather shop and eat at the small local stores they my business more than those big stores that are everywhere. I don’t shop in our malls either.
Thank you SO much for this! I’ve been curious to know what it’s like and don’t think it’ll be any time before autumn or even winter that I’ll be able to finally fly to Edinburgh again (Haven’t been back to my TRUE home since October last year. 😢). The shopping centre looks amazing indeed and I can‘t wait to have a look around myself. Did you happen to notice whether there‘s a Waterstones or any other bookstore in there? 🤗 An art shop would be great as well, and if there isn’t one now, there’s still a chance there might be one later, once everything’s finished. 🙃
Skywalk, called it months ago! Knew they'd be doing something like that. Also if they dont light the top up to look like a Walnut Whip some time, I'll be disappointed
OH hey, this is the place that I parked my rental car across the street from when we came into Edinburgh. Also, I thought you'd be amused that that building is actually marked as the Golden Turd on Bing Maps
Had to laugh tony when you said itd be good to visit when it rains haha if only you knew what would happen few days after you filmed there. Good to see you back m8
I've just visited. I wont be back again. It is a 21st century building with 18th Century amenitites. The queue for the ladies toilet (notice -singular) stretches out into the concourse. Yup, only ONE toilet in the building, there should be toilets on EVERY floor. I couldnt do any shopping, as I spent most of my time walking to and from the toilet. What idiot architect designed this building?

Yes! Agreed! It's just like our Malls in the States! But it'll be nice to visit and see the difference between US stores and Edinburgh.
Yes, or malls like in Poland where I grew up. That was missing in Edinburgh.
I went there last time and did shirt video about it.
Happy to see you back. Thanks again for an awesome video.

Looks amazing Tony! 😊 Nice to see you back 😊 my condolences for your loss ❤️
Hi, Tony. HOpe you're all well! Thanks for the video

Love your video's my partner and I are coming to Edinburgh today for a few days and your video's have definitely helped up 😁
Reminds me of St Enoch’s Mall in Glasgow.Where is the queue for Greggs?
Good to have you back Tony. Not a fan of shopping but might give it the once over next time I'm in Edinburgh.
Great to see you back Tony! We've missed you! The shopping centre looks great, ! I bet the fire evacuation was a bit of excitement 😆😆
Thought wulnut whip building is a restruant? Or is it to be one?

Hi Tony I was hoping you would be doing St James. They had closed the old centre and were starting to build again last time we came up to Edinburgh, take care of yourself and your family. The pain never goes, but it does get less in time ❤️
It certainly looks the part. Just hope they fix everything before the Christmas rush starts! Good to see you back. Our best to you and the family.👍👍☕
Do the local people call it The Jobby?
Fire and flood in the first few weeks... it's definitely a more exciting mall than the old St James!

Great to see you back! Hope you and your family are doing well:)
Personally I think this place is a carbuncle! It's just like any shopping center in any city.. just MHO;)
Good to have you back. I'm one of those that would prefer to support the local shops. I don't like the new skyline with that there but it is modern.
Good to see our back, Tony!

They also have to by law carry our regular full evacuations as a practice
Enjoyed the vid 👍

@@areacode08 We had a super nasty thunderstorm, flash floods everywhere including running down the inside walls of that place.
So very American looking. ☹ I probably won't visit when we're back in Edinburgh, but thank you for the video just the same. 🏴

Could of made an extra effort to use a scottish accent for the evacuation alarm 😂 Maybe thats why no one reacted (kidding)
Hey Canadians say duct tape too!
America the continent.😂
Could just call that building The Big Dollop.
