When you said 'Don't you just love those lights?' there were all these streams of sunlight and bokeh on the picture and I though you were talking about them at first 😁
Great little shortcut. Did it wrong way round, typical me. Went to Santu coffee then cut down Old Tolbooth Wynd then went up steps opposite. Brought me out next to Jacobs ladder. Interesting street art half way up. Cheers for the help...
The News Steps are one of my favorite places to go up or down from the New to the Old Town and vice-versa. I admit I like better going down. But I will take them going up and rest halfway up to take a good look around.
LOL, David Tennant! Awesome, glad you kept your cool! I probably would of nerded out, or embarassed myself and them. 😄😉 That is cool. Also, I love the direct routes you are showing us in this video. Thank you.
Hi Tony, spent the last few weeks watching you videos,we came to Edinburgh last week 2-3-4 nov with my brother(I'm 75 and John is 72) we walked all the streets, closes ,cathedral ,and the Kirk,John said"Christ you know stuff"I just replied"got a friend here! "Indy" can you take the time to show your viewers what camera you are using? Great series, great tips, what a fabulous city, back in january.frank&John.
I moved to Edinburgh in my 20s and learned the city by bus routes. What a difference it made when I finally worked out some shortcuts. Once you have a multi-level map in your head the city becomes much quicker to get around.
Amazing to know I walked all of these walks back in 2019 you are doing in this video and when I saw those steps I was blown away! 😁 That castle is so magical! King David the 1rs, son of St. Margaret of Scotland knew what he was doing when he built it! 💖
Oh my... Stayed in a hotel just behind Calton hill in March...wish I had known about Jacob's ladder...instead of walking the long way round 😳 Why is it called Jacob's ladder?
Now that is great! firstly, a gorgeous day and secondly, the last 2 times I visited Edinburgh, Jacob's Ladder was closed, so it was the long way around for me!! 😖 Absolutely going to use it, next time! 👍 Felt like we were in a game, with the footstep sounds 🤣 very cute!! Thanks for the 'more direct cuts' Tony hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱
If you turn left at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder you eventually end up at Abbeyhill, just a short way from Holyrood Palace...a lot quicker than going all the way down Waterloo Place and up North Bridge.
That's perfect! Thank you! I'm planning to take the shortcut from the Grassmarket to the Castle after having coffee at the Cat Cafe (Maison de Moggy). Does that sound familiar?😉 I'm going to send this video to the grandkids now. Thanks again! David Tennant?!! 😲
We accidentally did the first two shortcuts during our visit last month! The last one would have been handy to know 😂 Hope we get back again to use it! We are enjoying your videos as a way to reminisce 🤩
Yet another great video, Cheers. I saw another video recently, by someone else, that briefly featured Waverley Statio booking hall and the beautifully ornate ceiling. Any chance you could do your own one and give us some more details on it a bit of history? I'm sure you could do the subject justice. Keep up the great work !!🙌👍👏
Thanks again Tony! When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I didn't get to see the sun, so thanks for getting out and showing us the gorgeous day! I was staying near Calton Hill, so I saw Jacob's Ladder but had no idea where I would end up, now I know! I did discover my own "shortcut" by going through the New Calton Hill Cemetery (I just love your cemeteries!) which brought me to the end of the Royal Mile! To me it was more scenic than Jacob's Ladder because I also got to see the graveyard. I used this path coming and going a few times during my stay since I had a friend staying on the Royal Mile! Btw, wish you had at least gotten a shot of the backs of David and Georgia Tennant! I am a big fan too! 😍
Thanks for the video Tony. I have gone down the 'short cut' from the Castle to the Grassmarket and down the News steps without realising that was what they are called. Next time I'm over from Fife I will definitely have to go down Jacob's Ladder to get to the Royal Mile. Best wishes and Awrabest, Gordon Taylor.
Whenever I come out the station heading to Old Town it's a flip between the News Steps or Cockburn Street to get to Royal Mile, depends how knackered I am on the day what route I use...mind you last month when I was over for an appointment near the Meadows I decided to head up by the Mound just to take a wee look at the Castle 😍 On my way back I took the scenic route and went down the stairs at the Vennel, down to Grass Market, up West Bow/Victoria Street to Royal Mile, just so I could see the Castle all lit up from the Vennel, love that view 👌 There again on Thursday...hmmmm what route to use this time 🙈
I'll be staying at the top of the building at the Italian restaurant in Grassmarket (4th floor walk up). I'm not looking forward to those stairs in the building and between the tram and Grassmarket with a suitcase. I had better start working out again. Ugh.
Aye a guid horror yarn would be to go down the stairs from Edinburgh Castle and come out on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow!Help my boab as Pa Broon wuild say!
Such great info for my trip coming up in three weeks, I'm loving your videos. Are most of these shortcuts to be avoided at night, or just the News Steps?
When you said 'Don't you just love those lights?' there were all these streams of sunlight and bokeh on the picture and I though you were talking about them at first 😁
Looks like such a beautiful day! Ooooohhh how I miss your lovely city!
My wife agrees with you Tony...all stairs go down!
What a gorgeous day in Edinburgh
I knew to the first and the second one, thank you for the third one.
Great little shortcut. Did it wrong way round, typical me. Went to Santu coffee then cut down Old Tolbooth Wynd then went up steps opposite. Brought me out next to Jacobs ladder. Interesting street art half way up. Cheers for the help...
Great job orienting the landmarks, Tony. That's a big help for newcomers in an unfamiliar city.
The News Steps are one of my favorite places to go up or down from the New to the Old Town and vice-versa. I admit I like better going down. But I will take them going up and rest halfway up to take a good look around.

So funny. We always seemed to find those when we wanted to go "up" and not "down." LOL. Another great video Tony.

Why is it called Jacob's ladder?
When are you going to do the Edinburgh Autumn Colours Princes St Gardens Botanics ,??????
There is also a steep but hilly path down to Princes Street Gardens coming out below the castle from the Castle Esplanade
God is my Hame toon beautiful , lots of love to you Tony and your Misses and your Wee one .Duncan.

hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱
We accidentally came across Jacobs Ladder. Thankfully we were heading down it. Fun little adventure.

@14:55 haha that "view" is what I see in Texas ALL THE TIME - had to come to Edinburgh for some lovely grey skies
Looking like a brae morn bro

Well. I never knew about those padlocks. I take those stairs most weekends but I'm normally grumbling how unfit I am.
They do that with the padlocks on the forth bridge as well

Of course I will.

Good stuff!

Great video I especially liked the jacobs ladder direct route.
Thay do them in Blackpool to! Please do the Christmas market this year
I love these Edinburgh video's. You should do best views of Edinburgh. Great video as always Tony! :)

Is that first one right at the cannonball?
Yes it is.

Hope remember these in 251 days when we get there! 😂
Two quid for burger sauce!
Thay have dun or doing the padlock thing on the East Side of the forth bridge
Great Tony- if you haven’t, would you consider a walk around the castle and what l should see? I’d love to explore the Vennel?
All the little streets and what shops/ cafes are worth a visit in that area
I've been 2 edinburgh 15 times and it's always sunny do they get heavy rain
Oh yes we do. That's why it's so green.😀
What is that white castle like building on the left as you walk off the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade? A hotel?a Condominium?
that would be the Camera Obscura ;-)
You fair got your 80k steps in that day
Did you say hello to David Tennant?
That burger joint is permanently closed.
How about: 'Convenient cuts'? In any case, Thanks
Omg I would be a giggly mess if David Tennant walked past me………
Putting locks on public or private property without permission is akin to vandalism in my opinion.
Early 10.30.Really?
