Love it when people's imagination can convert something unused into a daily necessary

I'm glad you have your priorities staright Tony Cullen. If everyone's "daily neccesity" was coffee, tea, ice cream & waffles the world would be a better place! Just imagine...

Really interesting video Tony and you saved the best until last - that box near The Meadows that provide hot drinks and food for the homeless was very humbling 👍

Thanks Tony! The people of Edinburgh are so kind that I’m not surprised at all that there is a special place for the unfortunate to get a breakfast. Just makes me love Edinburgh all the more. ❤️

Amazing!! I hope you see this comment. In Japan they still have functioning police boxes called 'koban' 交番. They function as police station satellites. Over 6000 koban across Japan, from Tokyo to rural mountain hamlets. Some aesthetically resemble traditional Japanese machiya houses or mini temples when close to Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples and historic neighbourhoods. I hope Scotland keeps its Police Boxes and finds great uses for them. Great video. Thank you.

My daughter and I came to Edinburgh last August and went past many of these and we didn't realise at the time that they were old police boxes. Thank you for sharing more things about your beautiful city. We are returning in a month and we will visit a few 😁 as we love to support small businesses.

Ah the World's End Pub! When I was in Edinburgh in September 2021 I met some wonderful locals there. Such a great place to have a pint and chill. Plus I had the best scottish ale belhaven black stout!!

Great video, thank you, will give the crepes and waffles a go very soon. The coffee one outside M&S in Morningside is good if you are in the area, think it's called The Counter. I can't remember going anywhere in England that does anything like this with Police boxes, it's super rare to see one at all. It's great to see they haven't been destroyed and are being put to good use.

What I would give for an old police box for my school! It could be a garden shed, outdoor library, TARDIS-luke entry to the gymnasium...❤

Hi Tony. I really enjoyed that video. Clyde and I checked out a couple of those boxes on our walks and they were empty. So nice to now see them now being used by local business. I would not have been able to resist crepes either. Thank you for that great history.

Oh, man! How I want to visit your beautiful city and see all these little things that are not maybe tourist attractions, but they are part of the actual life of the city, if you know what I mean. Or, "you ken?" as you would say in Scotland. First time I comment one of your "walking" videos, but I have seen the most of them. Keep on. Greetings from Athens of the south!

Really enjoy your videos. I grew up in Currie and was a cop from 1996-2002, mostly working out of Gayfield station. We had a box key that would unlock the police boxes (same key would unlock all police stations) but rarely went into the boxes. I would love to see a video of Currie, Balerno and Juniper Green where I spent a lot of my youth exploring on my BMX. I lived in Easter Currie Court #5. I live in Canada now and haven’t been back to Scotland since 2007.

I was hoping to see the box at the bottom of Drummond Street where I lived for the first fifteen years of my life but as you say, off the beaten track a little. 60 years ago it was in use, members of the public could open the small phone door and speak to the police station. We used to sit on a Christmas Annual such as Champion or Victor perched on a single roller skate as wee boys and fly down to the police box with no thought of how we would stop at the bottom. Some cheeky chappies used to open the little door and shout into it and run away. Not me of course. Good to see the Meedies relatively unchanged after 60 years or so. Always look forward to a new video dropping, thanks Tony.

American, Dr. Who fan of sorts, and old architect with an interest in tiny buildings and London Metropolitan Police Boxes. Considering making a wooden mold to create concrete police box walls and roof here in Modesto, California. With 8 wall panels, a small homeless hut about 9 feet square perhaps even. But a custom roof. Or a standard 4 foot plus square police style box for someone's back yard. As a play room or garden shed also.

@@ClanBroonford mostly why I said it is that I've seen photos on reddit from European and Asian nations of either the American sections of grocery stores or some food that they're calling "American style". Usually what they pick up on as being typically American either is an interesting take, or makes us recoil in horror (see: Germans putting sweet corn kernals and hotdogs on pizza and calling it American pizza)

    Lovely video ,as always, Tony.
Do you know, are the police boxes sited in their original spots ( I.e. recommissioned) or were they initially removed and then reclaimed from salvage yards and the traders applied to the local council to site them where they wanted? Keep up the great work 👏👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The boxes never moved.....they are really solid (cast iron) and cemented into the ground would have been expensive to move.
They also have air raid sirens on top, and are quite evenly distributed around the city.
