What a cliffhanger! I thought we'd get to see the 520 startup under its own power again. 😄 I was very pleased you took the extra time to walk through the steps of registering a new battery. As this generation of BMWs becomes more and more accessible to younger generations it's imperative they are educated. Well done video!
Just replaced a new battery today on my e93. Not the easiest , situated in the rear wheel arch. The problem I encountered was registering it. I tried Creader lite no joy, tried my new otofix d lite no joy, tried Autel hand held no joy tried think car diag no joy. Will try Esta tomorrow.
@@GeorgeAustersyou didn’t reply to my comment? I have commented twice on your videos you expect us to like your videos and watch them but I don’t get no reply! I have asked for garage update? These videos are boring way too many already out there of this stuff we want garage build!
Great explanation 👌 and that long bolt-on bracket, I masking taped my socket to the bolt, used an extension to lower it into place, and once tight, broke the tape by pulling. Sorted. Fiddly though. I think I registered with Carly, which I had a subscription with then. Seems fine.
Thank you for the video 📹. But I'm read that this model bmw E 82,87,88 normal battery recommended bmw dealer AGM 80A/h 800.It's will long period of work. And also bmw which made till 2004 year they don't need to registration in the car.Best wishes 😊
Just come across your video after replacing my battery and done everything that you did. Only issue I have is that my key will not eject out of the slot now. Are you able to shed some light on what causes this?
correct me if im wrong but you dont have IBS as it is on negative terminal on battery (i have one on e87) its black box but you dont have it so you dont had to register battery. Also its good to check battery state of health in inpa battery menu, if it stay zero then smth is wrong with programing
The metal clips that hold that assembly on top of the battery are like razors and it is very easy to cut your fingers with them. I have the t shirt. I used Bimmertool to register my last battery. Cost me £13 plus the cost of a Bluetooth adaptor.
i changed battery last year on my 2006 e87 120d,and car did not start, just cranking. guy with a diagnostic tool came to me,and 5 min later and 50 euro later, car is started normaly. so it looks that every battery change on my car is 50e plus to him and minus to me :). im not sure that you have ibs sensor,i think that cars with ibs must have some black thing on a minus pole of batery, like on my car. but im not sure.im sure that i must connect support voltage to terminals under the hood,to prevent problems during battery changing next time
Great video as always, would you be able to tell me what model Topdon you were using please, seen a few different ones but like the features on the one you have, Thanks
It does not work like that! If the battery is to be 90ah in a BMW, you can put 85ah or 95ah 5 units more or less. If you put in a battery that is too large, the alternator will never be able to charge the battery to 100%.
The FRM has a bug which makes the flash corrupt and doesn't boot up anymore after loosing power or coding the module. Must be careful, I've had this problem with my e91
Mine died on the drive in my E91 330D, couldn't go and get one so ended up getting the RAC to come out and fit one. Took him a couple of hours overall so whilst expensive, pleased I got my money's worth, he was cursing.
My 630 cranks really poorly with a brand new battery (90ah), it really struggles to get the car started. I didnt have as many options as you did with my scan tool (Ottofix D1).
All modern car is it seems you have to register the battery. If you chose not register there is no major problems but your battery life is shorthenened also there is a likelihood of electric glitches .
George. Its a lump of led. If you have the same amp hour battery you dont have to register nothing. Bmw just put 12V int the engine bay plugs and changed the battery whit out any registration. If you no about electronics. How ibs can mesure is only the current and voltage. It will figure out the battery health. Not the same story if you change a different a/h battery.
@@GeorgeAusters can you explane more? In general modern battery life is 3 years. Ofcourse they last longer but that is what the manufacturers give in here up north where the temeratures goes down to under -30C.

Have you not been watching the videos on the 520? I’ve started it numerous times now👌🏻

There isn’t enough holes for that bracket to bolt into👍🏻

Some have it incorporated into the positive lead
Great job George lad. Hope all well

Yep thought it looked sharp 😅
I assume this is only done on the cars from the E60 onwards? Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Essentially yes👍🏻

I always order the next size battery up from the standard one for a small amount more, it doesn't have to work as hard then.
Yeah 90ah is the biggest battery listed for this car👌🏻

I’ve come across that before. It’s only the NFRM3 module though which started to be used 2010+
"register the new battery with the car"????
Technology for the sake of it - serves NO real purpose, just makes things unnecessarily complicated.

Did RAC Register the battery?
I'm assuming so, to be honest this was a few years ago and I didn't know they had to be registered so I didn't pay much attention.@@banglakingting

Agreed
Don't forget to fully charge the old battery 😅
All done👍🏻
I changed my battery and got a passenger safety malfunction light
I would think about fitting the battery clamp, it may fly in an accident.
It does have the clamp on top👍🏻
Garage update?
Coming soon
@@GeorgeAusters thanks for the reply when can we expect it?

I’ve made a bunch already. Anything you want to see with it?
They stuck the battery where the spare wheel should go. 😁
AGM or standard battery?
Standard battery.. AGM is only needed for start/stop
Did u scan the barcode to Ecu or serial number
why these batteries so expensive :(
mine died before 3 days
Wasn’t too expensive.. £95 for a genuine OEM battery isn’t bad imo
