@@catherinefranks786 :: Yes, I second that: Jobim was modest and could evoke a mood, a "Bossa mood", which in itself is almost unattainable for other musicians. it is absolutely honoring for me, as a brazilian, to see that our great musicians were recognized even by some genius such as peterson. unfortunately, I was born after jobim’s death, but I hope and do my best to keep our legacy alive. viva a bossa nova!
Yes! I feel bad that many Brazilians associate bossa nova for being elite and pretentious. This is not the case at all! It’s actually the best style of music ever written. And it CRUSHES the funkee music or whatever the heck it’s called now
We're grateful to Charlie Byrd, who got a grant to travel to Brazil in the '50s and came back to the US to introduce this wonderful music to the rest of the world. I worked in Washington in the summer of 1962, when Byrd was playing bossa nova in clubs in the area. There are words put to Wave which I repeat when I am contemplatively invited into God's presence. Yeah Chris Plummer talks about how in Hi school Oscar would start noodling on the school piano in the auditorium and soon it'd be jam packed but the The Viking is otherwordly as well ! I'm a bassist , but Ørsted is fierce yo ahhyee!
Funny, I just this am listened to this for probably the hundredth time and cried like a baby. Music does that for me. I am glad there are some kindred spirits out there that appreciate exceptional music. There are not many around here. A Texas man.
My late beautiful Mother was a huge Oscar Peterson fan & of course I am too. It's amazing how back then audiences didn't move, dance or show any enjoyment until the very end. This is absolutely wonderful to see.
I've been listening to the incomparable OP for the last 50 years. Even today am amazed that no pianist has reached his level of playing. His piano will live on as an inspiration for generations to come.
When I was young, I saw Oscar Peterson at the London House in Chicago, where many jazz greats performed. Oscar was my favorite, and this song is still great. in every way.
About 40 years ago I bought a set of Six Oscar Peterson discs under the title “exclusively for my friends”. They were recorded by a German recording engineer in his home in the Black Forest on a number of occasions. Each of the recordings are taken from private parties that were held and different trios featured on each disc and have a very intimate atmosphere of Oscar playing for his friends. The set is available to download and is still my go to place to listen to fantastic Jazz. RIP Oscar, your talent is sorely missed by those of us who, love jazz. All that said I think his best version of Wave was on a Jobin album with a green cover and a giraffe, can’t remember what it was called, also, available to download.
Every time I hear him play this I cry. It is the most amazing rendition. It just moves my emotions. I mean you can just see and hear the ocean when he gets going at the end. Love it.
Here we witness three masters of jazz playing a song by a master composer. Oscar, Niels, and Joe are so closely bound in playing their rendition of a song that one never tires from hearing. Thank you Alex for sharing this jewel. How can anyone give this a negative rating?
The "Great 3 Ps" - best version I´ve ever heared. Thank you! And Oscar wiping his face while playing his runs - somewhat humiliating for the rest of the pianists ....
I think the bassist is Nils Henning Orstead Pederson. I saw this trio live at the Blue Room of the Fairmont Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. I was touring with Sha Na Na at the time and (believe it or not), we were going to follow these geniuses for a week, on the same stage, starting the following night.
I was looking forward to meet him for he was and still is my idol. But due to his untimely passing it won’t happen anymore. But His musicality still lives in my heart. And so to the countless jazz players around the world. Keep on practicing and enjoy our craft. Jazz music lives forever in all our hearts.
I was raised on hearing the pure sounds of guitar players like Joe Pass and other jazz greats and it's been very hard to love the sounds of other styles even though they may be incredible players. You'll love Oscar Peterson who is an incredible player for the lack of a better word for this musical genius.
3 of the best musicians who ever graced this planet, playing the music of One of the greatest composers we've ever known, A.C.Jobim I was able to catch One summer evening at a Jam-packed Hollywood Bowl concert I didn't want to end
Great too by Jobim in Montreal Canada, with a rendition to Oscar. Awesome the performance from Oscar Peterson and Keith Emerson with 2 pianos, trio and band, tv Oscar show! Cheers from Buenos Aires Argentina 🤙

Both hands in unison from approx. 4:50 to 5:35: a level of badassery that may never have been experienced before in human history.
you can see him sweating buckets after that run
Son Of Art Tatum, at the piano.Others sound nice, but none of them improv like Oscar. He knew it,and we know it.
@bill Bloggs That's an etude, something you practice and learn. This was improvised, straight from Oscar's brain.
holy shit that's incredible...

The most incredible jazz pianist ever to live. May he RIP. You are truly missed Oscar.
How do I miss them Tom Jobim, Oscar Peterson and all the others who made this possible, you made me cry again!!! A Dutch Woman.

Cosa mai avrebbe fatto nella vita Oscar Peterson, se non fosse esistito il pianoforte? Meraviglioso!
QUESTA STUPENDA COMPOSIZIONE DI ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM HA INCANTATO IL MONDO INTERO!
Sometimes watching the audience's faces is as fine as watching the players. They know they how honoured they are
Oscar petersons solo here is so crisp, smooth, and soothing that I listen to it almost everyday. My favorite song.
Oscar Peterson was a trully piano player hero for millions over all the world! A genius of a human race!
The BEAUTY of human beings Thanks UNIVERSE For the beauty of it all...
Monstro do Jazz exaltando Tom Jobim. Arranjo monumental com a presença de Joe Pass.

One of the best songs ever written -
Where have they been hiding this man? My heart leaps with joy when I hear this man play.
He's playing for Jesus now...
Oscar Peterson was the best player of the world . Ever!!!
Jobim great composer and Oscar Peterson greatest jazz pianist!
The whole rhythm section on 4 strings...Peterson and Pass had the greatest backline EVER with this tremendous bass player...
