You hit the nail on the head at the end when you said it depends what you are buying your boat FOR! Permanent cruising-v-weekends and holidays; retired and leisurely pootling-v- working whilst living aboard, etc. 'Minimalist' vloggers Jo and Michael wanted to experience every inch they could of the 2000+ miles of waterways while others prefer rivers to narrow, twisty canals. What you can afford must also play a part in the decision between wide or narrow? In the perfect world I would prefer to own a widebeam - for all the reasons you mentioned - but have a dear friend who owns a narrowboat and is happy to 'house swap' for a few months each year: that way we both have the chance to experience it all !! Hi Jill, thank you 🙏 you’re very right, there are so many different reasons for wanting to own a boat so it’s definitely what fits your needs. You’re so lucky to have a ‘house swap’ friend, we have fabulous friends who own a narrowboat but don’t think they’d want to drive our monster!! Lol 😂

I think that all the canals and locks should have been dug for widebeam boats since they were originally built to carry cargo and materials to and fro factories, etc. If I were to buy a new boat it would definitely be a widebeam.
It is a shame that they’re not all navigable think there was talk of widening the stretch from south to north but don’t know if it will ever happen! We love our widebeam 😁
From my perspective, widebeam boats are more stable than narrowboats and that makes a big difference when you are moored and being passed by other boats or if the water is a little rough.

I don't think I could cope with the engine noise your boat produces. I'm guessing there's a big engine under there that's needed to push that along. I'm in the market for a narrow and maybe wide beam but all electric or at minimum a hybrid. I look forward to bumping into on the water in a few years maybe. Great video and thanks for the comparison.
Hi and thank you for watching, we have a 60hp Canaline engine, she's actually not that loud, I think when filming the canopy does amplify the sound! There are all electric wide beams, which are very quiet, some have a back-up generator to top up the batteries. Good luck in your search and see you on the water sometime 😀

I like wide beams nothing wrong with them seem Narrow boats seem a Pain in ass
We love our wide beam but it does restrict where we can travel that’s the beauty of narrowboats I guess it just comes down to preference 😁
Wide beam start at 9 ft to 14 1/2 FT that right
