    I am currently in MA school. It has taken me a year. I am a CNA and have been for about 10 years. I really always wanted to be a MA. I know that i wont make as much as a nurse. However, I paid for.my school out of pocket and MA school was cheaper than nursing school. So when I'm done I won't owe any student loans unlike many Nurses I know. I know I won't get rich doing this job, but I'll earn more than I do as a CNA and the job is physically less demanding. As a CNA, my husband and I live comfortably. We are not on government assistance and we travel alot, we are not in debt. My husband is also a CNA and EMT. So in terms of money, if I make more than i do now, we will be fine bc we are already comfortable financially. In my area MA jobs are plentiful. So I am lucky and blessed.
    Thank you all for your videos! If it hadn't been for your videos I wouldn'have made it through school, esp the EKG videos!!!

    In NYC, MA's work in clinics and hospitals. We work 8-12 hr shifts and some weekends and holidays depending where u work. If you work with a dermatologist, you will be setting up surgical instruments, and also might assist the derm. During minor office surgeries. MA's here work very hard and do alot of work, and in a place like NYC, the work is stressful.

    I’m a medical assistant my goal is to get my RN... I had a RN who works in family planning tell me ... I was doing the same thing she did without the pay 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ That motivated me and now I’m working on my RN-pre-reqs.
    My MA class was a fast tract with 12 weeks in class 4 weeks clinical.

    I have a question since I have this program at my High School , What will the hours be working in high school and college be like as an Medical Assistant?

  • @ambermartin4219
    @ambermartin4219 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I did a 50 hour fast track program at an community college and then took my certification exam. I also used books from Barnes and Noble. I did not become one for a career to do help get my foot through the door at a hospital. I'am know working on furthering my education to move up the pay scale. I love it, I want to do medical billing and coding.

    I've been an MA for 6 years.... it's horrible. You get worked like crazy and get paid less than everyone. It's taken me 6 years, I've got my associates and my bachelor's degree and i only make $18 an hour. I do more than half the people in the office and get crapped on. People are especially horrible if you work front office MA. I'm currently forced to work front office and It's so hard to grin and try to take crap when people don't understand why it's taking long, or about how insurance works.... they don't see you they just talk down to you. I'll admit sometimes taking blood, doing injections, and back office can be really interesting and helpful for patients.... but overall it's just not worth it. Just go to school for something else like a medical lab tech, nurse, or something more respected. You'll make way more money and feel better. I'm literally quitting to be a teacher lol!!! Teaching pays me better, the benefits are better, the kids treat me better than the patients, and I only work part of the year. Haha I think teaching is better than being an MA.

    • @Vrais23
      @Vrais23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like the places you work at are crappy. Being a medical assistant at a good office is great. If you're an MA and answering phones all day then you're not being an MA. MAs are respected because we can do both sides and help providers and patients. But because of our little schooling the pay is less. It's a great way to get your foot in the door to see if healthcare is for you. ❤

    I don't think the time frame for school is very comonly correct. Mine was 8 months, my coworker only went for 3 months. We also work 4 10hr days.

    I have questions I don’t know if u can answer for me I’m in class for medical assistant I wanna work for 2/3 years after that i wann study 2 years more to get my Bachelor degree .
    So my question is can I get my bachelor degree after I become a medical assistant?

    • @aznisles
      @aznisles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any particular reason why you can't get your bachelor's after you become a medical assistant? Only time, money, and motivation can stop you from getting a higher degree.
      Or are you asking if there's a bachelor's for medical assistant? Then no since medical assistants top out at the associate's level.
      Or are you asking if it'll only take 2 years to get a bachelor's after becoming a medical assistant? Assuming you're in the USA, probably not. If right now you're attending a regionally accredited school, only credits from general education courses such as Anatomy & Physiology or English Composition will transfer; the courses specifically for medical assistant won't count. You'll probably need 3 years to get a bachelor's unless you take a full course load and/or take summer+winter courses. If on the other hand, you're currently attending a school that's nationally accredited, then probably none of your credits will transfer and you'll have to start from the very beginning as a freshman.

      +RegisteredNurseRN thank you for your reply. I agree some MAs enjoy their jobs and money is not an issue for them, but it's definitely not an income that one person could survive on. Maybe a good supplemental option. I live in western Wisconsin and went to a community college for medical assisting in my town. I did check out Globe University located across the river in Minnesota. They quoted a tuition fee of 34,000.00 for an RMA program and my jaw dropped. I paid 4500.00 and am working as a CMA in Minnesota. I'm now back in school for my ADN.

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Suzy Q Wow, that was very high tuition for that program. Nursing does tend to pay much better, and there are a lot of specialties and opportunities available. -Ben

    • @suzyq7722
      @suzyq7722 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RegisteredNurseRN yes it was a very expensive program. When I visited Globe in 2011, I immediately felt I was in the process of buying an automobile at a dealership. They did their best to sell me on it. When I questioned the overinflated tuition the response I got was that I would be walking away with an associate degree as opposed to a mere diploma. And we know that doesn't make a difference for the most part when it comes to employment. Since the college is not accredited, credits cannot be transferred. There are a few of my co workers who are now involved in a class action suit against Globe for reimbursement. They have since learned that it pays to do your homework. Btw I really enjoy your videos. They have been a very helpful resource for me.

      +Bernardo videos Yes, many MAs feel as if they don't earn as much as they should. I've heard some complain that they made more working at Walmart, etc. However, some MAs really do enjoy their job, and money isn't the only factor for them. Thanks for taking the time to comment. -Ben

    Being an MA is a horrible choice. I am one and I work with a bunch of women vultures. So much freaking work billing all that shit and they wanna start you at 12 dollars an hours lmfao. Dont become an MA just go to LPN can work the same setting primary care clinic and just bring to RN after that. Being an MA is shit!

      Pass The Salt ,Thanks Yes I agree!! I been a MA for almost 20 years. The most I made was $16.25 and that was 7 yrs ago. I switched to billing 7 yrs ago and made $24.78 an hour. But they laid me off and now I can’t even get a job because I don’t have any recent experience being a MA. Let alone I can’t even redo my certification because I let it go so many years. What a waste of time and hassle!!
