@@SHELBYGT645 I think it's just a bit of tribalism. RB (and JZ) are objectively better engines but plenty of people take that as 'therefore VQs are shit'. It's a binary situation like Ford vs GM or my team vs your team. There's no middle ground.
@@irresponzible thats what im saying like there are always going to be things that are going to be objectively better but as an overall package ive owned 3zs and id love to own a JZ or a RB but the fact we still throw other things under the bus like the VQ then even the better motors become unobtainable by word of mouth now.
-The seat switch are known to go bad, he probably replaced them
-Exterier styling is broken up to 03-05 and 06-09. The 06+ have the better headlights, better tail lights, different front bumper, and in 07 they went to the HR hood. 06+ also has the revised interiors.
-Enginewise, 03-05 are DEs, 05 tracks and anniversaries where rev-up DEs, along with all 06 manuals. 06 Autos where still non-revup DEs. 07+ are HRs.
-GT gives you brembos, nav, leather, bose, Ray's wheels
-Plenty companies make cruise control brackets that mount to the 6 bolt stuff.

watch out for the uprev, it was kinda of a beta for what became the HR and has a lot of oil consumption issues. i would have held out for an HR.
Yes you are correct and they also have been know to excessively wear rod bearings out hence all the oiling issues

06 means HR headlights, led tails, HR interior and cluster, 03-05 hood, uprev motor is different essentially just because it has variable exhaust cams and different lower plennum, factory redline is 500rpm higher than a DE. There's a bunch of other subtle differences, like the abs is different, the not brembo stock brakes are a hair bigger than the 03-04.5 ones. Also, they came with a CD009

Not being rude or anything like that but its called a revup motor. Uprev is the tuning software for 04-08 Z & G. Revup also came with better oil pump to support the higher redline. Different cams as well, cd009 is key. Nissan improved the on the De every single refresh from revup hr and vhr. All have there pros and cons. Vhr is lacking majority of cons.

If no one said it so far. The revup 06 has the facelift bumper, headlights and taillights. The interior has the updated middle dash piece. And it being a touring it had 18” and 19” with brembo brakes. The wheels are the same as the nismo v3 wheels besides the 3 Z squares over the single line.
You could get a module to add apple carplay to the oem system. It is a gorgeous Z. Enjoy man!
If you want to remove the nav. You need to get the full dashpiece due to the sunvisor integrated piece.

@@02lucy666 depends on when it was made, 06 is when they did the trans upgrade to the g35s, and z. The older cd009s had issues like you said. early 06s most likely the old style, mid 06 it's random, late 06 good chance of updated trans, 07+ guaranteed
@@02lucy666 the revup came with an upgraded trans with the external slave cilinder. It is the “best” CD for the time. Believe it is called the CD00A part number: 32010-CD00A. Not 100% sure. Nissan did some changes in certain production months.

Love the Z, pumped to see what you do to it. As a 2003 Z owner I’ve always loved them. Still have mine with about 40,000 on it, I’ve converted it to a track car with roll cage. They are fun and parts are everywhere with a strong transmission
Nice. I know you love the JDM companies but don't sleep on putting some Motordyne parts on this thing. Easily one of the top VQ specific companies, US made & the dudes have aerospace engineering knowhow incorporated into their R&D. Definitely get their MREV2 lower intake manifold at least, I'd also recc. the 5/16th plenum spacer as long as it works for Revup (can't recall). Their XYZ mid pipe & Shockwave catback are some of the nastiest on the market.
Personally I went with the Stillen catback cause it was half the price (still way more than other brands like Tomei, etc.) and that has worked out awesome, no trombone here.
And I know HKS makes a supercharger kit for the DE. The Revup is a DE-R so I'd assume it works? Might wanna independently research that compatibility... on that same point NWP Engineering offers a larger 75mm throttle body kit. It's OEM Nissan/Hitachi from like an 09+ Maxima or something. That TB with the Motordyne intake stuff made my VQ responsive as fuck.
There were originally 5 trim levels, and was trimmed down to 4 at some point when they removed the track model, which was basically a base model with the Brembo's and track model specific 18" wheels at all 4 corners...I could be wrong, but I remember reading something to that effect when I bought my Z. Also, you did own another black Z back in the day if I remember correctly. However...from what I remember, the trim levels from 2006-2008 were:
Base: Rubber pedals, no traction or stability control, and open rear diff
Sport: Aluminum pedals, traction control, torsen limited slip rear diff
Touring: Aluminum pedals, traction/stability control, torsen limited slip rear diff, leather seats, and Bose audio
Grand Touring: Alumunum pedals, traction/stability control, torsen limited slip rear diff, leather seats, Bose audio, Brembo brakes, integrated navigation, and the factory aero package that apparently lowers the drag coefficient from 0.31 to 0.29Cd. The Grand Touring also comes with Rays Engineering forged wheels (Staggered 18's front, 19's rear (18x9 and 19x10 if I remember correctly), and they run wider rubber than the factory rubber on the other trim levels...all other trim levels run 18's at all 4 corners with 225's in front and 245's in back...Grand Touring models run 265/35R19's in back and 245/40R18's up front.

You can keep the cruise control with an aftermarket steering wheel. DND has a nice bracket that I have, and GKTech has one as well. If you want to keep both CC and volume controls, GKTech has one that'll keep both. Also 06+ Zs came stock with the HIDs and LED taillights. And pay attention to your oil. The RevUp engines burn a ton of oil.

Tommy you can relocate/hide the cruise control buttons somewhere else around the steering rack or around the cluster. As long as they are plugged in, theyll be operational.
Also. You bought a REV-UP, not an “Uprev” lol.
Uprev is the name of the software commonly used to tune the stock ECUs in these cars.
When the 350 came out in 2003 it was so futuristic looking for that era and it still kinda holds up today. Also, when they came out they were only like $27k starting for a base model.
You can move the cruise/radio controllers. My brother actually took the 350z controllers and mounted it behind his quick release on his g37. Also, you should totally keep the factory nav. It's sick seeing a fully loaded 350z. Never see em.

What a clean car, love it! there aren't much of these in my country. I remember i talked to one owner here of 350Z and he told me that they have veery small oil capacity, like 4.5/5litres and that's just too small for V6s (in my opinion), if thats the case i would change it or make it bigger for reliability. I dont know anything much about these so i hope iam not saying anything wrong haha. Anyways FIRE car as always.
i picked up a completely stock 04' 350z roadster enthusiast a few years back with a non-working ripped top from the Neighbor to my Business, for $2400. I parked it til I could get a top to replace it and do the brembo upgrade that I wanted. 54k miles 6 speed car, I'm just realizing how lucky I am to have picked it up. I've looked at z's for quite some time and you're right when you say 99% are thrashed on.

Grand Touring means you get the Track V2 wheels (Rays brand, forged 19x10 18x9), factory Brembos, Navigation, Bose sound system, seat configuration is Leather/Power/Airbag (the heaviest), stock aero includes front lower chin spoiler and rear trunk spoiler.

The cruise control issue with different wheels can be fixed with a kit made by gk tech it’s works with the after market wheel and relocates the steering controls.

You make a bracket for the cruise control buttons. That's how you switch between tunes. I have a bracket that fits between my quick release hub and it puts the cruise control in a perfect spot in my steering wheel. I can send pics just tell me where to send them
There’s a guy on TH-cam named Vitamin Z that had Tomei cams in his 350z that sounded awesome. I think for a daily that might be more fun than a turbo or supercharger. The only problem is it would cost the same as a turbo/supercharger setup and make way less power.

I own a interlagos fire 2006 base model factory CD009 best car I’ve ever owned, after some light mods they handle and perform like a dream, one of the better modern “raw” feeling cars, I’m super excited and can’t wait to see how the 350z is going to turn out, keep it up tommy 👏

for your new z the specs go with a touring you pick to have nice heated seats you pick to have the big brakes you receive the navigation and grand touring gives you the radio controls on the wheel the 05 gets new lights and an updated interior the hr is only engine it being 07-8 gets the updated interior from 05
how do you feel about the nismo rear? i think its one of the crazier of the nismo designs from the 350-370. crazy in a good way. defintely go for that

I would have held out for an HR at least if you're planning on modding. The internals are stronger. The HR motor didn't make it into the Z until '07.
My Dad had this exact car, except auto, back in the day. It was a blast.
This has 6 less hp for $5k less than an hr. This has a rev up. 50% HR owners are mommy’s boys

@@kaleb5006 It's not really about the power they make stock, which is like 20-30hp btw. It's the fact that you can make 500+hp with a VQ35HR and you're pushing it making like 400hp with a VQ35DE.
Stock for stock, they're similar, but the HR is still quite a bit faster because 30hp is a lot when you're under 300hp.
The HR has more in common with the 370Zs motor than it does the DE.
They are effectively different engines (something like 80% of the engine internals are different)
Somehow I missed the Rev Up part, even though you said it. My bad, you're right it is like 6hp difference stock.
I wish I could’ve snagged my g when it was 32k miles. I got mine at 130k but it’s in pretty decent shape for those miles. I’ve got an 07 g35 coupe and i love it. Went auto bc it was hell of a lot cheaper and I’d just swap trans myself. But I love seeing this still out there and taken care of so well. So few of these cars still in great shape. Can’t wait to see it all put together and I hope it treats you well as a daily.
crazy how much these skyrocketed. in 2016, i paid 10k for my 03 6spd coupe 1 owner showroom car off the floor at a nissan dealer with 33k miles. btw those wheels are factory rays forged wheels 19 rear and 18 front. basically nismo wheels but silver for GT cars
Grand Turing, so it's a GT with original 18's on front 19's on rear Ray's engineering wheels. You can fit comfortably up to 285/40/19 0n rear with a 11" wheel contact to pavement. When it any Z 2003 and up you have the basic model, the Enthusiasts model, the GT model,the Nismo model. Very nice find, hope it only goes 👍 in value as it is becoming less and less in time as any car does.
They sell a bracket that you can mount that cruise control stuff too, a lot of people keep it too use the buttons to change maps
I will forever miss the technology in my 1986 Maxima, had the automatic seat belts that were attached above the door frame and would slide around the door frame to open and then would do the opposite and close with the door so when you got in and the door closed you now had the seatbelt across your chest without moving a muscle 😂, but more specifically the keypad on the front doors. Always locked my keys in the car so I didn't lose them by having them on me. Since you could pop the trunk, unlock all the doors, roll down the front windows, all 4 windows, lock/unlock the doors without any key or opening the door.
Still have yet to ride in a car (new or old) that would say in a calm female voice (exactly like Siri except she didn't have an attitude or talk smack back to you, and you can't talk back to her...but you'd never leave a door open overnight and have a dead battery, or leave the trunk or any door half way open since it had super specific notifications that were in perfect English and non-robotic sounding like "the right rear door is adjar" if the door behind the drivers seat wasn't closed all the way or "The gas tank is low" or "The gas door is open" if you left your gas cap/door open.
Like I understand cars have extremely high tech shit nowadays, but in 1985 (34ish years old!) when my dad bought that Maxima brand new up until current day... The features like the full equalizer on the stereo with a vertical slider switch for all 10 different equalizer options, being able to press a single button to lock the doors, open windows, open trunk without ever opening a door.
Perfect stoner car when I was growing up and my dad gave it to me my senior year for my first car, I Never had to guess who forgot to close the door or remember to get gas on those high school days you were so baked you were just happy you could walk straight much less remember to take the keys out of the ignition. since that lady would literally say shit like "The keys are in the ignition... The keys are in the igni..." until you took them out and then it would let you lock the doors. So it was literally impossible to lock yourself out of the car. And you could set the pass code to any combination or length of digits you wanted, but only way to change It was to sit in the front passenger seat upside down and look far under the glove box under the dash and type in a massively long number followed by specific actions like.. (Turn steering wheel to the left, open then close drivers door 2 times, honk horn once, roll down both front windows at the same time etc.) 1986 Nissan Maxima was way ahead of its time, even has electric seats for reclining, scooting seats forward/backwards and so much more. Still cranks up first try, now I just need to fyeah/nismo spec the 86 Maxima (or cefiro? Think that was the Japanese equivalent of a maxima, or maybe Infiniti q30.. I dunno I forget. Either way...nobody does it/did it like Nissan 👌

Love that you found a clean 350z! Personally one of my favorite “cheap cars”. I’ve had 4 now and my last one was fully OE+ since I started watching you content heavily . You will love the 350z compared to the 370. It’s a much better car overall .

Those are 350z nismo wheels. Enjoy the car my man its super clean and sick! With the revup motor, get the 03-04 lower intake plenum, longer runners (more low end torque) i say kinetic upper plenum, not the crazy one, the black one, more volume (more high end power) a nice cold air intake, whatever exhaust just don't remove cats, if you do needs vibrant ultra quiet resonator. Single exit all day imo.
I think the 06 touring had the leather seats option with the hr lights and wheels no hr motor but the de rev up. Also the brembos are from the g35 I think I dont think the 350z ever got brembo brakes

You cannot comprehend the smile this put on my face. I had a black 06 base 6 speed back in 2007/08 and it was the love of my life (wife aside). Had to sell it years ago for a bigger vehicle (growing up sucks) and then kinda fell on hard times a few years ago. Been dreaming about getting another one but can't afford it, so watching this was kinda special for me. Thanks Tom.
Needs to add a 370Z steering wheel, nismo shifter, nice wheels, big nismo wing, HR hood. So many OEM+ mods possible for these cars.
That is a real find. Never seen a set in plastic before. I bought my 04 Z as my first car at 18 back in 2013. Since buying the car have been upgrading and modding it tastefully. In a sense of oem plus. It is a great daily. Went with a full bolt on.
That revup is very good looking Z. The G41 is a nice color. You could go with a S2 nismo engine upgrade.
Went with a GAG black nissan paint and added something special to it. I don’t want to see a second Z like mine 🤙🏻

06 has the same headlights and taillights as a 07 & 08. the 06 motor (rev up) revs a little higher then 03-05 de. brembo a come on track and touring trim models.

Only reason I didnt buy the t shirt bundle was because Im a tall T guy, Normal Ts end up shrinking in length and getting wider. I bought the accessory bundle, now might have to get a T. Nice job on the longer T's
Have to agree with you on this one.....im 6'4 220 and it's difficult to find shirts that are long enough after wash and dry,usually with t-shirts I'll wash and hang dry but that gets annoying after a while ,nice to be able to just throw it in dryer and not have to worry about it 😀.
06-08 has the facelift and the wheels are the track Edition Rays that came on both the track Edition and the grand touring they’re the exact same as the nismo v3 wheels with a different design I have a set I kept from my old Z Im glad to see 350z love on the channel whatever ppl say these are great cars

LeeCParts has the Nismo Juke/370z seats up right now for 4k, couple small signs of use but no hecka JDM grit burns.

The wheels are grand touring which are made by rays. Essentially they are like the wheels off a 350z Nismo just slightly different markings on the wheels.
