To each his/her own... but for this car I think it looks better without it. That wing was way too large and gaudy for that particular ride.

I usually hate those kind of wings. But....I think it looks pretty good on this car.
It looks like a factory GT86 "Limited" wing or maybe a replica, you could actually buy one like that from factory in some markets like Japan and South Africa.

Yep, would be a replica though, as far as I'm aware you cannot get genuine ones anymore. It was also sold in the UK and Australia as a "GTS Option Package", but only for about a year!

@@otto8127 probably not a replica here in Australia, we can still buy new genuine from Toyota with an aero chassis number AFAIK. The "GTS Aero" was about a fifth of the sales here... Which means there's probably about 5-10 thousand of them floating around for the number of years they were on sale. The people who bought them were 50/50 on keeping the wings and there were a bunch of people without wings that wanted them. There's regularly "want to swap my winged boot for a wingless one" and usually half a dozen or so up for sale.
I honestly kinda liked the wing, maybe something a little smaller would be better, all personal preference though. That giveaway is so amazing, you guys are absolute legends for putting it together, good luck to everyone in Australia entering. 😁

It harps back to Toyota when the manufacturer had balls to put turbochargers and AWD on their cars or both and the cars made sense.

I regret selling my first car so much, an immaculate champagne CADET S13. I sold it for entirely the wrong reasons and it's sad I'll never get it back. After a mix of other perf cars/4wd's I've just built/engineered/licensed my dream performance car after 6 years of planning/saving/building. I can truly say it's exactly how I imagined it would be to drive, ridiculously brutish fun. An ADM S14 Kouki w/ 6L LS swap. I'm so happy that you got the same car back Moog!
I wish I hadn't sold my old Volkswagen Lupo that needed a new gearbox, because a new gearbox for it is a lot cheaper then all the work I've needed to do on my Fiesta

I miss my 66 F100 and my 72 malibu - pickup needed only a fucking coil and would've ran and drove. The malibu needed A LOT of work but looking back I'd rather have put all this work I've been doing on my mustang to finish the 'bu.

Car 101: never sell a car for a blown gearbox, especially when you can get less on the price of a remanned one if you drop your old one (at least in most European countries i frequent).
Blown engine, crashes, rust, fed up with X car, ye maybe, but never gearboxes. It's the most complicated cheapest item you can fix on a car.

@@Theferrariguy I've got one worse, mom got a 04 mustang gt gifted to her. older brother liked to borrow it on the weekends and it always came back running rough and with less tire. well we go out that way one day and my mom forgot a charger inside so she opens her door not even two inches and bam whiteout, head ringing eeeeeeekkkkkkkk, moms moaning in pain and the whole right side of the car is up on the curb and some dickhead in a smoking Volkswagen is in front of us, douchebag tried to take off too but his shit wasn't moving because he caved In his whole right front, Well that was a long day, and at the end I got to clean out the exceedingly full trunk to find not one, not two, not three, but four phone charger in various layers of hoard and about a week later she tells me she had the paperwork filled out to transfer the car to me, didn't believe her but that was just the cherry on top, my neck still rests a little off center and she lost her nerve to drive after that rest her soul

Pretty sure that wing was a factory option, at least on the GT86 over here in the UK. Aero kit I think it was called.
Toyota created the TRD package which was available in the UK & the rest of Europe, the TRD wing was more like a ducktail spoiler. This wing however, was made by Toyota Australia as part of the aero package that was offered on the GTS model. Although, you could buy it in the UK, if you really wanted it.
The Aero is a trim level in the UK. I had one.

I understand why you bought it back. I had a ‘15 FRS, and I loved it. Traded it in for an ND Miata. Which I absolutely adore and have no regrets trading it in for the ND, but I do really miss the 86. The steering feel, the flatness in cornering, the amazing seats, the funny audible shift reminder, the old school clock underneath the infotainment screen that was a nifty little throwback to the clock in the original ae86. The distinct engine noise from a flat four with the oem equal length exhaust manifold. Aside from the flat spot in the torque curve, which I know can be remedied with exhaust and ecu tuning, it really is a great little sports car. A different kind of fun than the Miata.
Sold my Integra a few years ago and regretted it immediately. A year later I got an email from eBay suggesting a car for me, which I quickly realised was my old car! Bought it back for more than I sold it for, and have now spent way more than the car is worth on top of that bringing it up to scratch. Cars are excellent.
A car is worth what the buyer is willing to pay for it. You paid it. You got it. Enjoy.

Buy a car, realize how much it cost after you took it apart and let it sit.... ive had a few projects that seemed like a good idea and found hidden body damage after stripping paint and gutting it. Really crap feeling. I had a 68 "ss" camaro only to find it wasnt an ss. And the doors were full of pine needles because it sat outside for years and tons of rust. Hack resto as an ss and sold.
I had a 991 GTS and sold it for a Megane 250 RS Cup. Way happier with the Megane. I love that you guys keep it real and share the whole journey. Keep it up.

Love being caught up iv been building. My own project and managing kids takes time I was literally 3 years behind but what an epic journey you guys are still on still my no1 inspiration on my mk4 and because of you guys I made the leap on working on cars thank you to you both and all the team
I sold my supercharged 86 less than a week ago, this video is making me cry. I was supercharged, full exhaust, TRD coilovers, every cusco brace/sway bar there was. Damn.

@@sullidan74 I had the v1 Jackson Racing kit when I had my BRZ, I loved it. I'd still have it if I hadn't gotten laid off from my job at the time and spent a year unemployed :(
I loved the wing, it set the rear of the car up quite nicely with the other aero bits

I'm so glad to see the BRZed.... After all the complaining while modifying that car it just got better and better on the track. Your times in the BRZ were pretty close to the Lotus given your driving ability (which is quite good). I thinks it one of the prettiest cars you guys built.. and now you have the hatchback version in blue with the Golf R. Marty, you better get in there and get some mods done on one of your cars.. Still waiting to see you rework SuperTurbo's vacuum system and see how fast that little nugget can go..

I have never been so sure about a spoiler on a car in my life. I think no wing they look boring as hell, just blend in to every other car on the highway.

Yes! I wish i still had my 2000 Volvo C70 hard top. Low pressure turbo online 5 cylinder. I had that thing looking and performing so nice. I couldn't afford the maintenance breaks it had at the time, but it didn't break often. I traded it for a 95 mustang GT 5.0 which is the car I've wanted since i was in HS. I wish i could have kept that Volvo. You didn't see them on the road, i got instant props for everything i did to it and now i could do way more.

I've had many cars I wish I hadn't sold until I realised the only car I wish I hadn't sold was my AU Falcon, now I have 3, all utes, 2 XR8's. Best cars ever, your Subiota 86 is nice and all but it's no AU, the AU is the best car ever made, period. You can disagree but you'd be wrong.
You might be the best 4WD channel but if you were the best offroad channel you'd know that the AU is the best car ever for anything. On road, offroad, skids, skids, sounds, daily, towing, moving, carrying, camping, smiles, practicality, reliability, chops at the lights, posing, cruising, road trips, adventures, easy to work on, skids.
Secret, I have 3 AU's and none of them have done a skid while I've owned them but I've seen other people do skids in AU's on the intertubes. Apparently they are the best skid car ever which would make sense since an AU is the best car for anything ever.
Maybe it's cause I'm a tasteless Honda boy at heart, but I like that wing 😅😅😅

@@henrym5889 I put a wing from a gen 2 Integra coupe on a gen 2 sedan. I even put a center brake light in it. Never came with that. It works well on the 4 door. @&#$ the rules.

Just bought my old Mk1 leon cupra r back. Couldn't be with out it. Love the car in every way. Only been 3 months and had to have it back. Love the show keep it up bros.

That's how i feel about the MK7 Golf, Stage 2 and car is normal when economy driving. Bat out of hell when you give it the beans! I get bored of it but then i drive another car and get back to the golf and always appreciate the quality and drivability of the car.
That rear spoiler looks actually pretty good to be fair apologies!

Yo, the wing looks sick! it already has the the turbo boxer power, I recon the spoiler is a nice touch of Subaru PURITY.
BRZ - comfortable, reliable, and won't make you think that you're about to die when you drive it at the track and won't kill your backside on rough roads!

Recently bought my golf back after selling it to someone local. Got it back in much worse condition than I sold it in (they have a lack of special awareness to say the least). But it brings me so much joy after all the work I’ve put into it over the years. It’s such a joy and so cheap and bin fulls of torque!

I sold my Del Sol in 2019 as a ~96k mile example, with a tasteful exhaust (rare for a Honda, I know), a working transtop roof and a couple of little issues. I sold it for £900.
3 years old my other half's bought it for £1,000 on 104k, with a blown gearbox and a broken roof.
COVID is wild.
Roof and gearbox now fixed however...got it back.

Bit of a long shot - fuel consumption. My 03 Vitara just chews it for no reason I can tell, runs beautifully though. Plugs done, fuel filter done, serviced. O2 sensor? No error lights on...

I like how the owner was just like yeah of course you paid more for this used car than what you sold it for, I mean isn’t that just how used car buying works? There’s a whole generation of car owners who just assume this now.
At some point there’s gonna be a lot of dissapointed people who never realised cars depreciate.
@@playwme3 exactly give it until 2023-2024 and they will be complaining a car they paid 35k for in 2020-2023 is now worth 17-20k without Covid tax and depreciation on top of it.
Few years my dad sold his HQ 1Tonner to an old neighbour for like $1K to use as a weekend car as had company car but then changed jobs so had to buy something more suitable for daily use so put ute up for sale and told my dad could buy back for like $3500 stating not many k's added (Oddometer was broken) 🤣
I live on the Missouri/Arkansas border, our cars are dirt cheap to this day. Then again everything I'm into is 20-40 years old, and has at least one thing seriously wrong with it that I have to repair.

Thanks for this, I felt the same way about my BRZ at one time, loved it but felt like it was a small taste of something better out there, deeply considered other sports cars and drove them but ultimately felt like the BRZ, despite its flaws, was still superior in terms of feel, fun and dynamics.

That awful thing was a factory option for the 86 here in aus, not aftermarket.
Thats because it was a factory option wing. Theres a full kit that goes with it. "TRD Aero"

That type of wing looks good on the WRX because it compliments the large canopy size... but on the BRZ it is like half the size of the car and seems really overkill.

Was just looking at that. Looks like a slipping belt.
i think that's the ac compressor, clutch kicking on and off
It was the aircon compressor, the pulley center thats not spinning is the compressor clutch. It disengages the compressor when its not needed.
You can tell who the car people are
It's a late model Subaru problem. The compressor relay is going bad and shuts off the ac when you rev the car past a certain rpm.
Hi Moog, I am so glad that your beloved BRZ is back. I have passed thru similar feelings with my boosted gt86. I cant wait to see your upcoming mods on this car. Lotus < BRZ for me definetly.

That wing comes as part of a limited aero edition of the gt86 here in UK, the one I've been lusting after for a long time
Damn, seeing a glimpse of a Mitsubishi FTO… brings back memories, I wanted an FTO so badly they looked awesome!! But due to insurance costs for one in the U.K. I went with a Supra… naturally it was cheaper to insure.
My mum had one (also in the uk) and I remember learning how to drive in it on the country back roads. Such an under rated gem
@@commonisekaihero4745 yeah it’s such a shame they were so expensive to insure. Adrian flux quoted me over £1900 at the time, yet I got insured on a supra Turbo for £1400. They truly are a gem of a car, they definitely have the unique looks. Rarely seen on the roads these days! Although I live in the US now, hopefully imports won’t be too crazy
I'm a lucky UK boy to still own an FTO Gpx Mivec. Probably one of the cleanest ones because it's only done about 60,000 miles now... My MIVEC goes warrrrrrp

It's a good time to get it back with the hype of the refreshed BRZ last year. It probably didn't make sense to buy another brand new car, especially since this one had all the work done on it and you know it works.

One car that I really regret selling was my 1988 VW Transporter Double-Cab pickup. It badly needed an engine rebuild (or a swap) but due to my poor economy at the time, it didn't allow me to repair it.
I sold it for 5000 NOK. After a few years, the prices of those shot up through the roof, almost by 10 times the amount I sold it for.

As someone who's a die hard lotus fan I was devistated when you let the horses bolt, but utlimately if you're not happy with something you let it go and find something that makes you happy, a happy driver in a cool car is always better than a sad one in a super car......

Wish I never sold my 87 MR2 5 speed. Spotted the tail light peaking out from the cover it sat under for years in front of a house I drove by regularly. Finally knocked on the door one day, bought it for $240. Legit little car, drove home with a bit of new gas and a jump start. Drivers door was detached, the bent hood wouldn't latch, cracked sunroof and windshield. We threw the door back on, tied the hood down, and proceeded to bounce the poor thing off the rev limiter daily.... My one that got away.
Yep, I sold it to a buddy a year later for $500.

With the damage the BRZ my shop replaced an engine on a few months ago had, I would never recommend any Subaru engine ever. Thing blew the rear cylinders and poked holes in both sides of both blocks. We had to use hammers and chisels to turn the crank to get the trans off. Thankfully we had foot wide access holes made during the explosion, so it wasn't that bad.

I really haven't done anything to my car to warrant aerodynamic mods (really, just some seats, tyres and springs that's it), so I really don't get it.
Thats exactly how i felt about getting rid of my bugeye wrx, didnt know what i had till she was gone. Im fixing to pick one back up this summer!

It is a STI style spoiler from the WRX STI. It actually fit the car well, and was an OEM option.
I bought my first car back 18 years after I sold it, from the same person I sold it to. Enjoying it more the second time round than the first.
Hmm, not quite sure I agree with you on the BRZ > your old Lotus. Maybe in practical terms you're right because it's more of a street car than a race car. The BRZ got these things over the Lotus: interior space, a trunk, updated technology & cheaper/easier to repair and probably to insure as well. But the Lotus was a full on race car made for the streets & mid engine is god mode for engine placement. Idk, I choose 2ZZ.
I still miss the Impreza WRX that I sold; quite possibly the most capable, comfortable summer and winter shed ever. Maybe I need another Subaru in my life...
