    The best thing about this scene is that both sides are in the right and in the wrong. In Speed’s case, he’s right to want to do something about the corruption of Royalton, but he definitely broke his father’s trust in doing so. In Pops’ case, he’s right to be mad that Speed lied to him and participated in a race that could have gotten him killed, like his brother, but, at the same time, it’s clear that some of the anger is him taking out his unresolved grief over Rex on Speed, which is definitely unhealthy. This makes the reconciliation between the two of them especially cathartic.

  • @kodimarto9910

    Long ago I always found this to be a tense moment for the movie.
    I mean Pops DOES have a good reason to be angry, his second son has disobeyed him AND he's racing in the same race which killed his first-born son. If you remember the flashback scene where the family saw the death of Rex, Pops was very helpless and it gets even worse when you remember the last moments between Pops and Rex where the LAST thing Pops said to Rex as "You walk out that door, you better not ever come back". When Pops says "You know what this race did to this family", I have a feeling it did MORE than just tore the family apart emotionally.
    Talk about Adaptational Angst Upgrade.
    I never actually watched the original Speed Racer Anime nor am I a fan of the franchise, but if you recall the original Anime, Pops was completely against the idea of Speed Racing and would always try and forbid Speed from being a professional race car driver. In the movie, Pops is just fine with Speed Racing, BUT when it comes to the Carsa Crisco, that's where the Racing-Forbidding Aspect of Pops comes in because the Carsa Crisco is not only a Cross-Country Rally which in the world of the Speed Racer Movie is considered a Back-Alley Sport filled with Jackals, Headhunters and Thugs but its the same Rally Rex was killed in.
    I love the way the movie utilized Pops' "Racing-Forbidding" trait for that part of the movie.
    Unlike the original Anime where the conflict between Speed and Pops would be with Pops being a motor-mouth saying things like: "Iforbidyoutobeaprofessionalraceruntilyoureolderandhavemoreexperiencebehindthewheel!", this conflict between the two is quite realistic, he doesn't speak fast, just very angrily.
    Also at 1:23 thank goodness Mom got involved and broke them up. I mean, God only knows what would have happened if she hadn't.
    Oh, and yeah, I'm gonna talk about the part where Sprittle totally ruined the dramatic moment with the whole "WOO-HOO! Room Service!".
    Honestly, I think the movie did an excellent job with modernizing the Anime while being very faithful to the original source material.

    • @SonicPrimus
      @SonicPrimus ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Honestly, if Speed's mom hadn't been there, Speed and Trixie would have been completely on their own, and Pops might have repeated his mistake with Rex. And soon enough, Racer Motors might have gone out of business, and the family would probably be permanently torn apart on top of all that. All because Speed was doing what he felt was right.

    • @I_O246
      @I_O246 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I’ve been looking for critical analysis in dramatic scenes in this movie and it doesn’t get enough credit. This isn’t a cringey anime movie, it was made with a lot of love and care and each character has depth. Especially when speed was talking to royalton about how much racing means to his family and how royalton pulled the rug from under him. This movie is good but for anyone who doesn’t know speed racer or watched the original cartoon it would be a very confusing mess. But scenes like this is what makes this, in my eyes, a perfect adaptation of the source material.

      Having watched the original series since I was a kid, when Cartoon Network was airing reruns in 1997 and having later collected all the original episodes on DVD, I can say that Pop’s was really only like that for the first 4 episodes and because Speed had more or less only JUST started racing and Pops wanted him to get more experience first due to Rex crashing a car Pops had spent years working on after entering a race behind Pops’ back which is what led to Rex running away from home in the original series. But after episode 4, Pops had no problem with Speed racing because in Pops’ eyes, Speed had proven he was a capable racer. Speed in this movie has been racing for we don’t know how long before the start of the movie and he grew up around it and had been on the track (Thunderhead), with Rex and as such been exposed to it his whole life.

    • @Coach_Shiner
      @Coach_Shiner หลายเดือนก่อน

      Funny thing is that Speed did that once before. In a promotional video (The Wide World of Racing), Speed snuck off to Thunderhead when he wasn't allowed to, Nitro gave him the keys to his car and Speed drove around the track. Pops found out, and did that exact thing you said. If he couldn't convince him otherwise, then he can at least make sure he's the one pushing him forward.

      Unfortunately, it had steep competition at the box office in May 2008. Iron Man was released the week before, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out 2 weeks later, then Kung Fu Panda came out a month later. I think if the film had been released in fall 2008, it might have done better, though perhaps the recession at the time might have also put a dent in its chances.

      Mate this isn't a carbon copy of the anime, it's to add to the emotion.

    I like the live action Speed Racer movie. It’s a clear adaptation of the original anime. It’s underrated in my opinion. John Goodman is a great actor! He’s awesome as Fred Flintstone and as Pops.😊🤍👊🏾
