    These animations look so great and I really like the sizes of units and buildings. That gives it a completely different feel compared to other RTS games where a single soldier can be half the size of a small vehicle.

      Take half the size of a Tank, or the size *of* a tank, looking at you red alert 2.

      kinda rare those days rts that sacrifice unit size for graphics.
      it was necessery on the psx and ps2 era becuase otherwise you would not be able to see the soldier due to the combo of low resolution screens + primitive texture filtering on gpus. I mean its not fair to be too harsh on rts of that era having stylized graphics, take majesty for exemple the guys were huge but you could see the animations vs something like stronghold that had better fidelity but the animation were very hard to see.

      ​​@@livanbard actually, iirc there was this video that discussed some old rts games. One of them was 3d or something, and the biggest complaint derived from it is the readability of soldiers, players cant decipher one from the other.
      I think Generals 2 development also encountered that issue as well, trying to go for real scale units and buildings coupled with graphics. Just that this time, the graphics hinder the readability of small units
      So unless you're very good with visual design and you know how your players interpret each small unit differently, such weird design choices is the right call for your players to know which soldier is what.

    Even watching this short clip is more fun than playing most modern strategy games. There is something special about these 2d engines oh and the designs and details are amazing.

    I really love the idea of tougher economy units. Rather then them just getting easily picked off it seems like this would lead to more supply line/convoy scenarios which is really cool

    Love how fights seem to turn into a mess of various projectiles flying.

    I think what I love most about this is a hint at logistics between production and resource drop off. I always disliked how resources just magically get used by production buildings

    It would be interesting if units and building dropped their value or part of their value in scrap on death. That would make a nice bounce back mechanic. When half your base gets destroyed but you managed to survive, you can refine all the scrap in your base, which would mean more short term income than the enemy has, since they have to move further away to their field. Scavenging past battlefields would also make some secondary income, when all the expansions are dried up.
    Kinda like in Supreme Commander, but with the main income beeing finite resource patches. I never like how slow the game got in older RA games, when everything got mined and noone had any income.

      I like setting my harvesters to go mine and have them do that automatically, its not like I have an entire base to watch over, armies to direct, and an economy I need to keep stable XD

    this is the only game I'm looking forward to. love the aesthetic, love the factions, and I love the "recourse logistics". I always felt that sort of feature should be explored more. have you decided how many recourse types there will be in the game?

      There will be three useable resource types: Materiel (your "default" resource, like Minerals in Starcraft), Fuel (your more advanced resource type, again like Vespene in Starcraft), and Authority, which is a resource that is not mined and has no logistics behind it, but is instead accumulated through destroying enemies and completing objectives, and is mostly used for support powers such as airstrikes, artillery strikes and other special abilities.

    Give the Harvester an upgrade and call it "work crew", all it does is add two guys sitting on the roof to take pot shots at any nearby enemies

    I think it's interesting that this game will have worker infantry alongside the ore trucks. Makes me wonder what situations would it be best to focus on the Ore Trucks, the worker infantry, or a combination of both! 🤔

    What gives with the metal/concrete texture/terrain inside of that walled base at 1:00 ? Is that player built like concrete from tiberian sun/Dune 2000?

      The game features buildable concrete tiles, which improve unit speed and reduce the possibility of cratering due to explosions.

      Currently Powerplants require Fuel resources to stay active; the Powerplant in this video shutting off was just a mistake and I didn't want to redo the take. We're not sure if this feature will remain in the final game though, definitely something to figure out in testing.

    I keep coming back to this videos, and as a factorio player, I have always wish than an RTS had more emphasis on building outpost and processing those resources. not just magically add them to a pool after taking them to a building you an put next to the resources. Looking at this is exactly what I have always wanted, manage your logistics and sabotage your enemy supply line to weaken them.. cant wait

    Hi! This is the second video on this game that I watch. My attention was drawn to the design of the units - this was clearly done by a person who loves modeling! Please try to make the main background (ground) darker so that the units look more contrasting. Perhaps it's worth adding a little bit of saturation to the unit model. And bring the camera a little closer - these models (sprites, yes, yes) are worthy of looking at them!

    Is the music in this video going to be in the actual game? I really REALLY love the vibe it has! I can tell this games going to have a unique soundtrack that'll grab peoples attention.
    Also the detail in the units, structures.. every video I see showcasing this game makes me more and more excited for it! From the scale, to the details and art style, to the gunfire and explosion effects! I am SO happy I discovered this gameeee.

    everything looks beautiful, but from my understanding all of the units are sprite based and not voxel, does that mean that all of the terrain in the game will be flat? Since making the ascending state for the tanks and all would be very tricky

    Love how massive everything looks. Will map sizes go up similarly? Looking at the one here it's relatively small when compared to units and buildings.
    Also was it me or did unit corpses/wreckages persist? That would be very cool!

    Amazing animations and details! the whole proportions look so nice and with all the little interactive stuff like moving turrets etc, its fantastic! Would love to support the development, but I am very hesitant on continuus patreon support (sorry). Because if nothing comes out of it, all the money is gone. So is there a way to pre-purchase this for example? Or make a kickstarter, where users can buy the game and some other small stuff?

      There may be a kickstarter at some point, possibly later this year. I just went the patreon route for now since the game isn't quite ready to demonstrate for something as significant as a kickstarter. There's a number of mechanics and visual improvements I want to make before I commit to something like that.

    It's good to mine resources with that huge truck, but I don't know if it's actually possible to play multiplayer because the movement speed is too slow.

    ore- "Harvester is under attack."
    This is very cool, not only the "Harvester" but also infantry/miner(?) can collect the resources too.
    Animation look very good too. You use the sprite technique like in Red Alert 2 for example, right? (I don't know much but it feel like it.) or something like Factorio?
    I been looking for an RTS game with "Harvester" aspect (like Red Alert and C&C) in it, not like one of those "Resource Extractor" or something akin to Starcraft system. (They are not bad, don't get me wrong. I just like the Harvester kind of resource gathering system more than those kind.)
    This look like one of these game and I very much looking forward to it.
    This is the first time I stumble upon this video/channel/game. Thanks to TH-cam algorithm recommanded this video to me.
    What platform this game gonne be release on? If it Steam, I'll be buying for sure!

    Will attack move be in the game? One thing I love about OpenRA and reason play it over RA2 is the attack move function, it's so nice telling your army, go over there and "krush kill'n destroy" everything on the way.

      You can give attack-move orders, yes. Many units while also fire while moving, and also units have behavioral stances you can set, like ordering them to pursue enemies they encounter or to hold fire.

    Of you have multiple war factories, can you build multiple vehicles at the same time?
    Or can you only buld one vehicle despite have multiple war factories?

      Each factory has its own construction queue, so multiple factories = building multiple units at the same time.

      @@funnyguy3D The idea was actually taken from an old (bad) Star Wars RTS called Force Commander. Although there are a few other RTS games with a similar system, like Act of War and Baldies.

      @@funnyguy3D Oh, you misunderstood; we got the idea for storming base buildings with infantry units from SW Force Commander. I am aware of Baldies, but it doesn't really have much influence on DORF design-wise.
      As for the resource logistics system, that was more influenced by Factorio, as well as how war in real life requires a logistics game, something that's strangely untouched in almost every RTS ever made.

      Empire. Other factions can also harvest scrap, but have different methods of doing so.

    What happens when a scrap field runs out?

      Mining ore will actually be the primary method of resource acquisition, though it has to be found underground, and the entire subterranean movement mechanic hasn't been implemented yet. So for now I am just showing off surface scrap collection.
      Also in general, scrap "spawns" from destroyed vehicles and buildings, so to a degree it's a self-replenishing resource, as long as there is continuous battle.

    I never really dug the design aesthetic of Red alert 3.
    Red alert 2 had a very appealing chunky diesel punk vibe.
    And that is what I love about this.

      I think they stated that there will be some changes to how lighting in the engine works

      @@cletusmandeletusman2328 We will use a deferred shading/dynamic lighting system similar to Brigador, though actual implementation of this system is a little ways off.

    This game looks beautiful, but why they are so slow? And it need 3 different units for resources?
    Don't look like an multiplayer, but i will play it anyway :D

      This faction in general has slower, more defensive units. Also most factions will have multiple units that can gather resources in some capacity, to add some flexibility to playstyle.
