This is really well done. First Aragon I've ever seen that I seriously consider buying. A 13mm thick, 500M diver is some impressive engineering and manufacturing.

Early in my watch collecting, Aragon was my "go to". I'm thrilled they have 40 & 42mm pieces now. If they would move that date window to 6 o'clock, they would still be very hard to resist. Thanks for showing Aragon on your channel.

    • @TheCoolistic
      @TheCoolistic 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I can fault them. Close inspection shows that the actual finishing isn't that great. They're a bit on the industrial side and as somebody mentioned in one of the videos I watched about another model, some of the edges can be quite sharp and if you look closer under the clasp, between the links and so on, the finishing is a little on the rough side.
I bought this model in blue and the helium valve is placed so low, the bottom edge of it actually drops off the case and is shaved off as a result. I think for most other brands would consider that a reject. It's a bit frustrating given that it's something I'll never need (I can't even swim let alone dive), and since I'm UK based it would cost too much to return it. But to be honest I wouldn't bother.
Why? Because it's definitely worth the money. It feels totally robust and solid and it's well worth what I paid for it even with the extra customs charges, but if I was paying much more I would like the finishing to be improved. Maybe that's the point, churn them out and sell them cheap without too much attention to the finer details but I do think people need to know and not set their expectations too high if they want a higher quality. The reality is that you can buy something like a Citizen or Seiko for similar money with better finishing.

    • @-A-lm5xb
      @-A-lm5xb 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@TheCoolistic Yes I have to agree with that. "Industrial" probably sums it up perfectly, they do give the impression they've just come off the college lathe if you look too closely, but if you can see past that you do get a lot of watch for the money. But I agree, you can get better finishing at a similar price point.

Fantastic. I'm not a collector, I buy a new watch every few years or so and I've recently just bought a new Boldr but I have to have one of these. I absolutely love that engraved style and it's rare to find them at all. I don't understand why every dive watch on the market is just another "me too" dive watch, for that reason I'm not a fan of the style but that bezel really pops and it looks like a far more expensive watch than it actually is. Just hoping they have stock and it's not a limited run.

Wing’s more subdued designs are not bad. I have an Evo 4, which is a tank of a watch. On the bracelet the thing weighs over a half pound and is 16mm tall and 45mm wide. Nice black IP finish on the case and a lumed dial. It is solidly built, and not wanting in the quality department, especially at the price. Not a brand for everyone, for sure, but one that deserves a bit more respect in the watch community.

I guess the trick is to mass make them. thus, lowering the value. You can build this watch with 140usd. (yes, 300m with helium valve) but not with the details on the bracelet and clasp which is just absolutly gorgeous. I would say that either they are cutting margins big time (dont really think so) or they really have good suppliers.

Great review thanks! I'm a fan of Aragon. Aragon prices their new releases at a heavy discount off the list price. The price increases after the initial launch. They do have sales. I collect them because they use an interesting range of movements and materials. My most recent acquisition from Aragon is a stunning titanium case and bracelet 300 meter diver which I think cost about $250: with a 28000 bit high beat Miyota movement. I didn't buy them until they started making 40 mm and 42 mm cases. I agree that their lume is below average but I don't obsess over lume.

I own three Aragon watches and this one with the black dial option is on my wish list. It is probably the most reasonable design of the various dive watches Wing has delivered. One thing you didn't mention about the bracelet is that all three links are articulated and independent of each other.
One interesting claim about the Aragon watches containing NH movements, is that they are SII (Japanese) movements and not TMI (Chinese). However, as I mentioned in my own review of my first Aragon, this claim is difficult to prove, because, while there is an exhibition case back on most of Wing's watches, the rotor's model number inscription is covered by Aragon's own blue label. I think it is a sticker, btw and not some IP treatment, but I haven't verified it, since I do not want to open watches that are under warranty. I have no reason to disbelieve the claim, other than the fact that the one place on the movement that indicates whether the movement is TMI or SII is covered, so...
Of the three that I own, only my DiveMaster GMT Ti has fantastic lume. The others are a disappointment, which includes a fully lumed white dial iteration of the EVO 4. The problem is that the Lumicor indices are terrible and while the dial stays illuminated through the night, I cannot distinguish the hands - they are washed out by the lume of the dial - something you detailed in this review.
My only complaint is that the design ethos of this brand lacks any savoir-faire. The cases are all chunky and brutalist. There are no subtleties to discover. The finishing of nearly every watch in the catalogue is satin, there are no chamfered edges, no high polish flanks. There are some exceptions to this observation, but of those examples, they are usually so outlandish in their design, that the vast majority of Aragon owners never get a watch that has any delicacy of design and finishing.

Aragon is hard to beat when it comes to quality vs price. I’ve had a few over the years and they were fantastic. Luckily I have an 8” wrist so the 45mm offerings always wear how I imagine a 40mm wears on an 7” wrist. If they start pumping out 42mm watch’s my bank account will be toast.

Olympic Swiss is, I think, a NZ only brand making watches with Rhonda movements, hence the Swiss. They are still going I see with prices even cheaper than Aragon, but all quartz.
A big shame that the full lume dial isn't just a bit better. That whole dial glow is something else. I still have Seiko & Citizen dive watchs from last century with full lume dials that bring joy.

Wow, i srcolled therir catalogue and i admit: really nice watches für a bargain. BUT: As a Typographer i can't unsee the horrible kerning in the logo. It's dreadful.

Thanks, I was eyeing up this exact model a while back thinking how good it looked. Bezel looked a little Yacht Master imo which I appreciate. It seems great and reasonably priced which is getting rarer nowadays.
Only negative would be to reduce the logo width and not make it all italic. If he did that and added a little more lume it would be a winning design

No date would've been fantastic on this one. Or at least move it to the 6 o'clock position.

I really like this watch, but that logo is way to ugly to be printed that big on a dial.

I, and I guess others, highly await the day they make a sub 40 mm watch. A 38x44 (L2L) would be super!

Not having a European VAT tax means it's a no go for most European customers. I wanted to order one but no thanks, it will costs me at least twice the price

Exactly what I was thinking, It's a shame because It kills its value for money proposition.

Got to agree - from the UK its around £225 to have it delivered. Still not bad for the specs, but no longer an amazing deal either.

I'm far from a dive watch fan but I really like this.
I'd be a lot more likely to purchase if it were a useful GMT rather than a basically useless diver.

They also make a 40mm dive style GMT called the 'DM 40 GMT' this may be more useful to you

Wing's philosophy seems to be all about WRIST PRESENCE.
He designs cool bracelets, but the watches are usually a bit too much for me. I go for sub- 40mm watches. This one is cool - $200 seems just about right.

Unbeatable at 165 of course you ditch the bracelet for fitted black rubber
