What a great song. It came out in 1973. Little did I know it would come true for me one day. Although it took a lot more than one summer. I met Penny when I was 16, and she was 30. It was the summer of 1977. We eventually ended up working the vast majority of our EMS careers together as EMT/Paramedic partners for decades. We were a great team on and off duty, building a successful life together. I knew Penny for 43 great years. We lived together for 30 years, married 15 of them (I was her second husband). Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly in May 2020. I can tell you they don't women like Penny anymore. I love and miss you, my wonderful wife. But life goes on. What wonderful bitter sweet memories this song brought back for me.
Oh, That would have been hard for you. I hope you find your comfort with this, as I have too, although we both moved on. Similar with the meaning to this and the age between us. Yes, it brings back memories.💔

I love this song and I'm 66. I heard this song as a young man and it inspired some background for 4 characters I was writing about. They were kind of like Young Detectives or something. Hardy Boys inspired, but more physical. They all had their own fighting styles. I know no one cares. The 4 guys were Chinese, White, Black, and Latino. The Black guy was named Billy Ray.
@bebbychad7607 Not really. I wrote about them in College, but nothing ever came of it. Code names were China Dragon, Questar, Night Runner, and Condor.
I knew the recording engineer on this track. He was worried about the orchestra arrangement, that high pitched sound at the beginning. I think it gives it the perfect feel.. sizzling 👍 great job Ernie Winfrey RIP brother🙏
This song brings back memories for me. I was 25 living a block away from the beach, Huntington Beach CA. I had just got home from work. It was a overcast cloudy day. For some reason, something inside me was telling me to go down to the beach. I went down, it was deserted. I was just hanging out watching the surf. Then way down the beach to the south of me. I saw a figure walking my way. The figure was too far to even see if it was male or female. As it got closer, I could see it was a female. But she was still to far away to see much of her other then she had silky long dark hair. Trying not to look at her make her feel weird. I looked out at the ocean. Then I heard a woman's voice. I turned to her, looked at her. She was a gorgeous woman with a warm perfect smile. We talked and laugh for close to a half hour enjoying each others company. Then she said she had to get heading home. I ask if she lived far away. Just my luck. She lived on 11th st. The same street as me, but closer to the ocean. I walked her home. When we got to her place. She said: Wait here for a minute, I'll be back out. She came out handed me her phone number. Ask that I call her before I went over. She was a beautiful woman, I will never forget her. I can only remember her first name was Cindy.
This happened to me when I was 17. One of my parent's friends was having trouble with her marriage and she came to stay at our house for a few weeks. I was 17, she was 29. Her name was Linda and I'll never forget her❤

"The Summer of 42..." A great movie but the book that this is based on fills in the blanks. A great book. Please, if you can get a copy read the book. Makes this video all the more bittersweet.
This song reminds so much of me and my wife and listening to it now brings a tear to my eye. We met in the nineties me being in my twenties and her being forty. Me, never really being in a serious relationship and her coming out of a bad one. But we kinda got it together and hit it off despite the the age gap. People said it wouldn't last, it's just a phase, it will fizzle out. But we proved the doubters wrong and it did last, for over 27 years. But on 26th July this year 2024 I lost her. I took her into hospital with pains on the 3rd July and she never came home. She went in just 3 weeks to stage 4 lymphoma. She taught me so much in the time we were together and I loved her and still do love her so much even though she's gone now. I just don't know how I can keep moving forward without her.
Hello Nick. I hope you don't mind me replying to you. Your post brought tears to my eyes. Please allow me to tell you my own story. I have terminal cancer, and recently my husband (who is also my soul mate) asked me the question that you are asking: How can I carry on without you? I told him that it won't be easy, but when I am gone he must live his life for BOTH of us, and that when his time comes, I will be waiting for him, and we will never be parted again. And you know what Nick, I TRULY believe that. God bless you, take care, xx
@Anna-Jade Hi Anna Jade. Firstly thankyou for your kind words and taking time out to reply, it means a lot. I have read your post and I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, I really feel for you and your husband, it must be awful. All I can say is that while you both have this time together try to enjoy it and make every second count. I would like to tell you a little bit more about how Christine (my wife) ended up with this cancer, if thats OK. It is a long story and I will understand if you don't want to read it all but here goes. When I met Christine she was very health conscious, didn't drink, watched her diet, swam, dance fit, aerobics all those kind of things. Me am afraid to say not so much, although am different now. Anyway in 2008 she started to feel unwell and her joints all began to swell and she was becoming more and more immobile. We had doctors to the house and we went to hospital in the early stages but no one could find out what it was. Then at the end of October 2008 she became so bad that she was rushed into hospital and they battled to save her life, then. She ended up in intensive care and was there for three months. Eventually they found out she had an autoimmune disease called Wegener's granulomatosis in which her own immune system turned on Christine and tried to shut her body down. Although I believe they have now dropped the Wegener's from the name due to him being a German involved in some atrocities in the concentration camps. Although she did pull through she would have to live with this for the rest of her life on heavy medication and her kidneys were damaged beyond repair which meant she was tied to dialysis to keep her alive. She would have this Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 4 hours a day making her ill on the day she had it and they day after, which meant she was just getting back to normal on Sunday for it all to Start again Monday. They did try chemo at one point to see if they could kickstart the kidneys but it didn't work. We also had to make regular trips to the hospital between the dialysis and her being so ill. Although she was alive she was simply surviving and I decided to give up my job (long distance trucker) to take care of her. The only way her life was going to improve was with a kidney transplant. So I asked about donating one of my kidneys, so she could come off the dialysis and have a better quality of life. Now with any organ going into someone else's body it has to be a good match and even if it is, the the body accepting it will still try to reject it. After a quick blood test they found that my blood was a rare type and so my kidney would not be suitable for Christine, which broke my heart. But they did suggest that they were running a new scheme called paired donation, in which another pair want to donate but their blood groups are not compatible. So it would simply be Christine getting a kidney from one of the other couple and the other person in that couple getting mine who has the same blood group as me, just like a swap. So I signed up but was told there was only an 8% chance of a match due to my blood group being rare. But towards the end of 2010 the computer found a three way match, the first done I believe at the time at this hospital. So all three couples were signed up and the more indepth tests began. Now at this point none of us, the couples had met this was due to hospital protocol. It took almost a year to have all the tests and coordinate everything. At one point me and Christine were asked questions about each other seperately and we had to take photos in from earlier in our relationship to prove we hadn't just met and she wasn't buying this kidney off me, crazy I know but it does happen. Now in this case it was three guys donating donating to three women, but on the whole women's kidneys are usually better than men's. When I had all the tests on me they said I was in great health and my kidneys were working better than they had to, which seems unfair when I had up till this point not taken care of myself and Christine had and she was the one that was in this terrible position. Now we was told by the transplant coordinater at this point not to talk to the papers or TV because they didn't want them outside the hospital. So on August 18th 2011 the transplant went ahead. Now this is where it gets a bit confusing so I will do my best. So me, Christine and one of the other couples were at Manchester Royal and the third couple were at Birmingham. So all of us guys were put under the same time, and the kidneys taken out. So my wife received one from the guy in Manchester, his wife received one from the guy in Birmingham and the guy in Birmingham his wife got my left kidney. In fact two of the kidneys mine being one of them passed on the M6 motorway, one coming upto Manchester and mine going down. All the operations went without a hitch and all the transplanted kidneys started to work although it was still a long road for the receivers. But Christine would sill remain on heavy medication and still had the original ilness. Christine was in hospital for about another 10 days and I was out in a couple with no ill effects, infact the hospital staff said they were gonna come round next day after the op and get me moving but I beat them to it and had already wandered off to find Christine. But the most important thing was to see Christine no longer needed dialysis and she could have her life back and be happy. There was though a few blips along the way pneumonia, sepsis and few water infections. We still had to make regular trips to the hospital, but she got stronger and started to see friends, we went on holidays and I could see she was getting back to herself, even though she was not the sort of person to moan, or complain about poor me. Another thing to add was we still hadn't met the other couples yet. But one day while picking up a newspaper for Christine there was a story on the front page of, I think it was the Telegraph about this donation scheme and there was a picture of this couple that had been involved in this scheme. Now I have a good memory and I recognised this couple from the kidney waiting room at the hospital the many times we had been. So after going again a few times we did bump into them and we asked them if they had been involved in this swap, and to our and their delight they had. They did say they had checked with the hospital to see if it would be alright to go to the papers and promote the swap scheme, which was agreed by the hospital. They also appeared on TV, they did want us all to go on television at one point on various shows, but I declined. We did continue to stay in touch because they were not far from us, being in Manchester, the other couple we have only ever spoke on the phone. But sadly some years back we found out that the lady in Manchester had passed away with cancer. Her husband understandably was inconsolable and seemed to be unreachable after that. Now while Christine did enjoy her short but happy life after getting a second chance, she was very realistic about the amount of drugs she was on and she said they were going to get her in the end. Which the doctors believe caused the cancer. I do miss her so very much and I have never experienced loss like this before. But when kind people like yourself take the time out to respond, it really does help. My thoughts are with you and your husband 🙏. Please do take care and thankyou once again.
I go back in my mind for the very first time, feel the touch of her fingers. I've posted before I got intimate with many older single, separated and married women and always miss the one who's no longer here

The movie summer of 42 makes me think of the lady i had a crush on when i was 4 that owned the house we were moving into . She was about 30. Really looked good. But she was married unfortunately. Summer of 42 was an outstanding movie. I remember the guy selling the rubbers was on about 50 tv shows. Cameos.

I don't know if you got the answer to your question or not, so I thought I'd tell you just in case. The film is called *_"Summer of '42."_* The film was based on the memoirs of screenwriter Herman "Hermie" Raucher. Hope this helps! Be safe and be well. ~Peace!

It’s so funny they use Summer of ‘42 as a video for this song because I always pictured Gary Grimes and Jennifer O’Neill in the song.
She was 31 and he was 17? I think I know where she has been for the past 10 years!
