Its worth mentioning after Heimdall got hit, he lost all his conposure and tried to fight Kratos fist to fist, but the thing is, Heimdall is terrible at combat, throwing wild haymakers, backfists, leaving himself open with no technique or skill, because Heimdall always won battles due to his mindreading, he never actually been in a fight where he had to use his fighting skills or his fight IQ, when he met someone who actually knew how to fight, Heimdall ended up joining Zeus and his brothers.
I wonder what Would The Olympians Have Said if they Saw Heimdall Die I would Think they'd Say Welcome to the Club of Gods Kratos Has Killed One Way Or Another
It's kinda unfair when you see it that way since heimdall is a war veteran with over 1000 battles of experience where he was never touched thanks to him having mastered his abilities so the draupnjr taking his foresight completely away is like taking away magic from odin. Heindall would of won against kratos if it was not for draupnir.
@yogurtgod5605 He's saying Heimdall wouldn't have won regardless, which is probably true since Kratos wasn't damaged at the end of the fight either due to being able to parry or dodge, or because Heimdall just wasn't strong enough to do significant damage to him. It would likely either be a stalemate, or Kratos would eventually overwhelm him anyway since as we see in the fight Kratos starts attacking faster and on instinct. We even see how easily he beats Heimdall down at the end when he loses control, if he was like that the whole fight it probably would have been shorter.
Kratos was the youngest general of the spartan army. He led thousands of men into combat multiple times. He is immortal. In the codex he writes that he cleared his mind. I interpret it as he simply stopped anticipating his next moves and let like thousand years of muscle memory take over.
Not to mention he is fighting him with a spear. First ever weapon kratos learned it's all muscle.mempru he doesn't need to think about how he uses the spear
@GeneralS1mba the spear being blessed doesn't do anything. it's the explosion of the spear that messes with heimdall senses and also how did heimdall which can see your intent and read minds, not see the explosion of the spear coming. That's the reason why I believe 100% heimdall solos kratos without draupnir nor plot.
@TheGr8Herd Such a freaking well written game. It's the little stuff like that which makes this game such a masterwork. Could make a 5 hour long video pointing out all the brilliant bits of writing this game has.
The fact that the codex was written from kratos perspective is one of my favorite things about ragnorok...its a window into the mind of a general and it also makes his short precise answers even better when you see how much he thinks everything through
@@redsnorlax1945I thought of it as like, kratos’ diary. And I can’t unthink it. The god of war, destroyer of fate, seeker of vengeance, god killer, but like anyone who’s going through stuff, he’s got a diary 😌
As a highly trained fighter in my own right it is very simple to see why Heimdall got hit it had nothing to do with the spear actually. Heimdall's actually fighting skills and knowledge suck and he relies way to much on his ability. As Brok said, he doesn't have foresight but rather he is very good at reading people and can usually do so in a second which allows him to know how someone fights, if your a great fighter this is quite an ability to have but it is lost on Heimdall. No point in trying to comprehend it either as it is a god ability that Heimdall has and we as humans wouldn't be able to understand how it works. It's not actual foresight as Kratos learns. This is important but watch the 3 exchanges that lead up to Heimdall being hit.: 1) This first combo is slow, Kratos is just testing him and his alleged foresight firsthand, he wants to see how Heimdall move and reacts, trying to hit him is not the goal on this exchange 2) The 2nd combo is faster but Kratos catches something as did I, he almost actually hit Heimdall on his last punch and his block was super late, verifying what Brok said and that Heimdall doesn't have foresight. I have noticed that this small detail goes missed by many as such a late block is a poor choice in that case dodging would have been superior, that indicates a serious lack of skill and experience as throwing a late block isn't a guarantee it will work. 3) Kratos does the exact combo again, if you look at it in slow motion (and this is the most important part), Heimdall raises his arm to block BEFORE Kratos swings anticipating a left hook (like Kratos ended his combo with earlier and once again shows a serious lack of skill throwing a block before an attack is launched.) Instead, Kratos grabbed his arm and pulled Heimdall off balance and into a right cross, overwhelming his senses as Brok suggested. This was a set up by Kratos who took advantage of Heimdall's arrogance to make it happen, make it appear as if he is slower and weaker then he is and when his arrogance is at it's peak goes full speed having conditioned him to block an attack that isn't coming. Basic fighting 101 get into someone's head and you control the fight and them and conditioning someone to block attacks that aren't coming is a big part of that. Someone touching Heimdall is enough to make him lose focus and actually being hit would send him into a blind fury as shown in his fight with Kratos. His foresight still would work after but no where near as good. Heimdall seems like he needs to be calm and collected to get the most use out of it. At this point Heimdall is to angry to calm down and focus and the "fight" is more just a training exercise for Kratos at this point. Kratos tried to let Heimdall live even but Heimdall lost total control and made Kratos kill him
As soon as Heimdall was even slightly injured, he loses it. And remember, while he can see what someone is going to do, he can’t see the actual future. He could see Kratos slamming Draupnir to the ground but couldn’t see that would make the spears explode, hence why the first time Kratos stuns him, he’s surprised. And Heimdall clearly wasn’t thinking, he had draupnir embedded in his arm, and at this point he knows FULL WELL that it explodes, and proceeds to say he’s going to gut Atreus with Kratos standing right in front of him. Heimdall doesn’t know how to fight, when he starts using his sword he says something along the lines of “I don’t remember the last time I used this thing” and he was just wildly throwing bifrost around. And finally he kicks dirt into Kratos’ face, a cowardly and dirty move which a Spartan would no doubt be enraged at, and Heimdall deservedly paid the price
I think this has a two fold explication. One he is In Danial over the fact that Kratos got hits In. And two it’s a meta joke because of the spear giving a boost to the luck stat. All in all there are several reasons why he lost. Most of them are covered in the video. But there are a few more. Like how Kratos is just straight out a more skilled fighter. While Himdal has basically zero fighting skill. Plus I’m pretty sure Kratos is just way faster than Himdal. Predicting and reading your opponents movements is worthless if you can’t react fast enough to them.
Or it could just be that Kratos attacked faster than Heimdall's body could move to dodge Kratos' attack. Sure Heimdall could predict all of Kratos' moves but that means nothing if his body's physical speed wasn't fast enough for Heimdall to move out of the way of Kratos' attacks.
I find this more likely. Sure, the spear threw Heimdall off, but I don’t think it could’ve completely overcome him. That’s why in the small cutscenes during the fights when kratos is trying to hit him with his fists it goes from Heimdall completely dodging, to Heimdall needing to block slightly, then to Heimdall being grazed. It seems like Kratos was speeding up during those interactions
@@staclips3375 He was speeding up, the first attack was Kratos gauging how quick Heimdall is, the second one he sped up to see how fast his blocking is and to see which arm he favors, the last was to using the knowledge he gained from the first 2 to land a hit on him. In other words, Kratos measured twice to cut once.
Honestly this makes more sense to me. Maybe against a stronger opponent, like Kratos or Thor, Heimdall wouldn’t have much luck because predicting the next move alone would not be enough. Their experience creates so many variables that predictions become redundant…is what I think
I feel like heimdall was lore wise kinda overhyped too cause when thor got in his face he backed down like he knew thor would win. I think he just plays it off like hes so smart and strong he cant be touched but when faced with a cunning or strength he knows is better he buckles
Oh, absolutely. Some Heimdall fans will try to deny this, but you can't argue with what was clearly shown on screen. Heimdall backed down from Thor with his tail tucked between his legs, meaning that what he saw in Thor's intentions? Thor was VERY much capable of doing it. Probably a massive lighting strike he'd have no way to avoid.
and it's also that thor is faster than heimdall and more skillled, he's foresight means nothing if he's body movements can't keep up with it, he's careless enoguh to just weave he's sword like a kid @@hunterg.1300
To be fair Thor has an elements that can overstimulate Heimdall’s senses; those being his incredible speed that he can move with his hammer and his lightning which has chaotic yet controlled movements. With lightning Thor can strike from where ever and extremely fast. Also Thor can control his hammer without even physically touching it which is another plus.
@@surajpatil8670 Narcissists draw other narcissists. They'll claim that "he was only doing his job of defending his (tyranical) realm!" They like to believe that he truly is unbeatable, despite the fact that Thor had him backing down and that Kratos said that Draupnir was his BEST option, not his only option (because let's be real, he would have found a way without the spear if it came to it, given his past victories and discipline). They like to make up stuff to "support" this, such as the false in-game lines of Freya saying that Heimdall could match Thor (again, no character ever even suggested that, because it's made up) or claiming that Twitter posts from creators said that Heimdall wasn't scared of Thor, "just disgusted." Yet, when you ask them for proof, a link, or any sort of evidence to find this supposed post, they basically go, "Uh, I forgot." They like to defend him because they hate the main cast, which only speaks more on their narcissism. Liking villains is fine; idolozing them is the problem.
I think as well as the reasons in the video Heimdal’s own frustration of being struck made him too angry to concentrate, like Odin said “sometimes he forgets to think” so he kept making mistakes getting more frustrated throughout the fight as no one else has ever shown him such disrespect and kept getting away with it.
I wonder if Heimdalls ability would work on someone with a shambled and chaotic mind as both it and having a clear mind could theoretically counter Heimdalls foresight
@@godlygamer2466 well you see Hermes wouldn't be a problem because heindall can slow down time but Helios light is as fast as light speed and Heimdall wouldn't be able to predict any moves blinded by sun light.
@@christianhenry4173 no, helios light filled the entire underworld in literally 0 time. That’s is infinite speed. Hermes and Kratos were both fast enough to avoid it, Hermes obviously having a faster speed for the most part, though Kratos being fast in bursts
Honestly, despite how much people already like it, I find Draupnir Spear to be a highly underappreciated weapon. It is expressed in a form of spears, which honors Kratos' Spartan roots, also making it a very effective weapon for him. The fact that it exists in expendable and copious forms also allows him to make use of his spearmanship to the fullest without the limitations of a regular spear (he can throw it in leisure and infinite number). Its nature mimics that of the Thunderbolt of Zeus, except, instead a bolt of lightning, it's a spear of gale; it pays homage to his heritage whilst acknowledging the difference between him and his father. Unlike thunder, wind is not harmful to the touch, but it can be deadly with great force and controlled forms. The weapon's true and constant form itself is actually the ring, not the spears, the spears are *expressions* of the ring's power; Kratos' power. Not only does this make it seem like it is more connected to him than the other weapons, it symbolizes that Kratos as a person is not always the deadly weapon he needed to be and his destructive capacities are only parts of him. He is not bound to any one of the spears the ring conjured, they are tools that can be replaced. Lastly, an interesting property of the spears are that they could siphon elemental powers; it's almost like Kratos himself who had proven himself very adaptive and willing to take what's necessary' to move forward, a habit he shows throughout the series. The weapon is not just tailored for him, it's an allegory of him as a person. The devs denied us Mjolnir and gave something much more meaningful and fun to use.
I think another factor is that Heimdall’s body is slower than his mind reading. As it has been said before, Kratos was testing Heimdall’s speed in his first few attacks. Heimdall is fast, Kratos is faster.
I would say hiemdall is even better equipped technically. But it is a video game and somehow they find a way to make the main character always win despite being less powerful on paper
@@monhi64 I disagree. Kratos has better everything from physical stats, to skill and battle iq, and even weaponry. Heimdall didn’t have any logical ways to beat Kratos.
@@monhi64 Heimdall relied almost entirely on his Foresight and mindreading, and thus had little actual combat experience. He had never been defeated before Kratos punched him, which made Heimdall arrogant and prideful, thinking that no one could touch him. As a result, he neglected to train his fighting skills, which led to the result of Kratos not only defeating him, but killing him.
There are a couple other things, though Kratos clearing his mind and letting his instincts take over is the big factor. Mimir told Atreus that every god is different in what their true power would be. Kratos' true power (the thing unique to only him) is the ability to kill gods. Not that big of a deal in Midgard since the Norse pantheon are technically not immortal to begin with. Even with their regular consumption of the Idun apples, they could be killed by mortals under the right circumstances. The apples just heal and, when enough are consumed, slow down and even stop aging, thus mimicking immortality. But the Greek gods were true immortals. They didn't need ambrosia to live, ambrosia and honey were a preferred meal of theirs. Neither Hades nor Hephaestus had regular access to ambrosia given neither were regularly seen on Olympus. The titans (the beings before the Greek gods) are also immortal. No matter how much help he had, even with Pandora's Box (the hope in it specifically) Kratos wouldn't have been able to kill Ares as effectively and permanently as he did if he didn't have the innate ability to end an immortal life. At the same time, foresight also relies on written fate and the future. Kratos' fate is literally what he makes of it. Afterall, he literally cut his life out of the threads of fate to rewrite history and kill Zeus before Zeus killed him. Since he had no fate anymore he didn't cause a paradox doing that (plot shenanigans, admittedly). Because of this Heimdall couldn't see Kratos' fate, so he had to rely on using his foresight by reading the Godslayer's mind. Silencing a mind and relying on instinct took that out. Then Heimdall got angry because he was hit. He'd never been hit before and, like Atreus at the beginning of God of War 2018, was super unfocused when angry, easily lost in it. Kratos, on the other hand, has trained to be able to use his anger in a fight. In fact that is something he trained as a mere demigod Spartan. I think having a spear of any type would have been the best weapon for Kratos to use against Heimdall. I believe he could also have beaten Heimdall with the Blades of Chaos (which, when in use, are essentially extra limbs for combat) or the Leviathan Axe; however, it would have been a much harder fight.
As a karate practitioner i agree what we practiced several times in years ,our body remembers n it automatically attacks or blocks due to muscle memory. #Kratos_is_Killer🔥
@@houseofaction yes it does its not as good as consistently training but if you do something over a long period of time it becomes subconcipus to a degree
@@houseofactionIt exists, doing something lots of times finally happen by simple reaction. Evading attacks and counter them it's one or making follow ups
I wouldn't be surprised if Kratos could project to Heimdal what he was going to do, while really doing something else. Thinking about doing X attack and then really doing Y. He could do the other true attack through muscle memory, not needing to think at all about those.
Fun fact: kratos is an advanced tacticionist. I seen a Reddit post on this, where someone explains that during the 1st stun kratos throws wild haymakers to try and knock him out in 1 blow, that doesn’t work. Next he tries more close attacks, and he also notices that made Heimdall block instead of dodging, one of the first times heimdall couldn’t read accurately. Next, he threw the same blows but at the 2nd to last instead of going for a down hit he grabs Heimdalls “new bracers” (because he knew he was going to block) and held him in place, actually ending up hitting heimdall. It goes to show how much knowledge kratos retained from his days as a General for the spartan army. I paraphrased it but if you want the full explanation I’m gonna put the link in the replies to this comment so the link imbeds instead of you having to copy it.
To dodge a move is to predict it and to move out of the way before you get hit. Dodge too early, and your opponent can change the trajectory of their attack. Dodge to late, and it isn’t really a dodge because you got hit. Heimdall could probably see moves a while before they hit, but he has to dodge perfectly anyway because of the reasons above. Then in comes Kratos, who seems slow and brutish at first. Heimdall can easily dodge his attacks, it’s a piece of cake… until something happens. Heimdall can predict his opponent’s movements, he can see the future, but what if the opponent does something that overwhelms that sense? Enter the infinite money glitch spear. Heimdall tries to get close to Kratos, but confusingly Kratos bangs his held spear on the ground… unaware that doing this makes the spears Heimdall is standing around explode. To overwhelm foresight, you must be able to both outsmart and outspeed. Even if Heimdall could see the spear exploding under his feet, Kratos just has to make it explode faster than Heimdall can dodge it

The fact that Kratos could detonate each Individual spear copy added the ONE element of surprise that Heimdall couldn’t detect. Kratos keeping his mind clear PLUS the added randomness of multiple spears detonating at anytime really shook things up and over stimulated his senses like how Mimir was talking about earlier.
You are overthinking the explanation is quite simple Santa monica: AH FK! We make Heimdall to op. We make this this spear to overwhelming his senses i guess...whatever
Spears are also the safest and fastest weapon to use because its just a long stick with a point on the end which is light and ideal for stabbing repeatedly and very fast, thats the whole point of a shield wall historically, just stab an onslaught of enemies on the frontline over and over again. Its just too fast for really anything to dodge, I mean look at the plethora of animals our ancient ancestors killed regardless of how much faster they were than us.
The best thing about this whole fight for me is how Kratos holds it together so well, so tightly even in the face of the threats to his son........ ..............and then after Heimdal kicks dirt in his eyes completely loses his shit and pummels him to the ground with insane double handed heymakers and throttles him. Our boy tried his best, he was genuinely trying to hold back till that point and he snapped. We've all been there that moment when something pushes our buttons and we flip out. It's one of the most human moments in the game for me, it's pretty relatable. Not the murder-choke bit but the trying your best and losing control thing.
yes, he generally just stopped thinking, and started blasting, both with his hands and the spear, and all the other weapons. Its not about proficiency with the spear, its about him just getting angry and stopping thinking. He generally went back to his greek attitude
I can answer the second question, after managing to strike Heimdall once, Heimdall would start questioning himself and his ability meaning his reaction time slowed as he did the questioning. Every subsequent strike would reinforce his questions and doubts.
I like to think that Kratos was able to beat heimdall because of the difference in their skill, while everyone else would fight and just get frustrated, kratos adapted and became more precise with his attacks as well as keeping himself calm up until the end
What i alwasy asked, Notice how Heimdall comments in his phase 2 cutscene, " What is going on in that empty Head...?" Think its a literal translation of kratos clearing his mind and focusing. The second main point is where odin comments on heimdall after the atreus v heimdall fight is that heimdall forgets to think. He doesnt need strategy nor focus on countering when he believes he is untouchable. It was all a game for him. Kratos manages to hit heimdall as you notice kratos goes for the same combo that heimdall blocks with his bracers, as kratos knows heimdall will go for a block again and heimdall doesnt think as to why kratos does this or cares to adjust, so kratos grabs his arm instead of hitting to hold him then hits him
A theory I had as to why the spear worked on Heimdall was actually rather simple. The Spear’s main stat is luck, so upgrading it gives you more luck stat. There’s a line in Heimdall’s fight where he says “Is this just pure luck?” Or something relating to luck. Maybe the spear has the power to just allow some luck manipulation to some extent. After all Kratos wasn’t fighting on pure instinct alone for the first half, because if he was then Heimdall would have gotten hit by a normal attack. Before Kratos stopped thinking, he would have still thought to denote the spear which Heimdall would have noticed.
Another thing to consider is that Heimdall is incredibly arrogant because he always wins, it doesn't matter how many powers of precognition, foresight, and whatever else you have, if your ego gets in the way of your power, then you are going to lose.
Kratos out predicted Heimdal's Forseight. The 1st set of attacks was to see how well he can use his ability. The second was to set up Heimdall for the upcomming combo. The third combo was literally overwhelming Heimdal's senses. His natural reaction to block was only an issue when he realizes that the speed at which Kratos was outputting exceeds Heimdals ability. Hence "slow it down" after Kratos manages to land his 1st direct hit. The third series of punches was almost the exact same as the second series of punches, instead of punching Heimdal's inevitable block, he grabbed his hand instead. Hence, Kratos predicted the block, and Heimdal never predicted the Grab. Then There's the simple matter of, Kratos having more peace of mind when fighting as a god of war. He is somewhat at mental peace when he is in combat. Even if Heimdal can read Kratos' intentions, it'll be blurry for Heimdall because you're looking at over 900+ years of combat experience from not only a Certified god Killer, but a Spartan general. Then there's also the fact that Heimdall doesn't "think" he just acts on his ability. The more damage he received, the more his Ego and his Impulses took over. Which led to his downfall.
I don’t think the experience with a spear was the reason he won because Brok didn’t have any idea kratos knew how to use a spear or had an experience with it at all. Also the first hit real hit landed was with the fists, which then gave kratos the advantage
Heimdall doesn't read thoughts, he read intentions. It seems similar, but it's not. Also, because of Heimdall's power, this made him a trash fighter. He banked on his reading ability and really never trained for a straight up fight. It's a like a world champion boxer put against a grappler, while he can beat anyone at the hands, now he's got to wrestle.
Spear and shield is the staple of spartan combat as it allows strong shield formations with effortless strikes. In Kratos' case, he really didn't need the spear as the blades could be swung very wildly and from hand or chain. The spear just makes it easier for him to keep control because he would've easily lost it using the blades.
The spear note is a good point. However, the larger reason is the fact that Heimdall lost his composure and ability to stay focused. It’s like a real fight. Everybody has a plan until the get punched in the mouth-Mike Tyson. In this case, once he got hit after so many years, he lost his ability to fight with a clear mind. Just recently Alex pereira was getting stunned by Khalil only to eventually find his groove and start breaking down Khalils guard. He was able to evade and counter Alex early on but once he started to get tired and hurt his defense broke down. This is very realistic for a guy who has seemingly never been hit cleanly and has never been in danger of losing. Once he got scared it was game over

It was the spear, plain and simple. Fans love to say he would have won anyway and its def possible but its nothing more than speculation. The fact that we couldnt lay a hand on him without it is all the evidence we really have. The whole ‘i have killed greater gods then him’ line was before kratos even seen him or sized him up. He was just being confident and a lot of people take that quote out of context. I dont think kratos would have won without it but its easy to hate heimdal so its not a popular opinion 😂
Believe it or not, earlier in the game, Odin himself revealed a weakness of Heimdall. Remember when he mentioned to Atreus / Loki that Heimdall is "Very perspective but sometimes he just forgets to think, you know?" This would mean that Heimdall could have already thought of a counter for Kratos's spear, like using his slow-time ability, or just outright dodge them to the point that Kratos would have to resort to AOE attacks from his entire arsenal which would take some thought to do. But nope! Heindall believes in his mind-reading ability to the point where his own mind isn't thinking as hard as others or that he's just brain-dead. Either way, his lack of thinking to compliment his perspectiveness (or mind-reading ability) is what led him to his downfall. Don't believe me? Check out a video of Odin's cutscenes and you'll know what I mean. Specifically when Odin greets Atreus in Asgard after his first first fight with Heimdall.

You have to understand aswell brother kratos adapted when he attacked and heimdall blocked when he said these are new bracers, it happened again he threw the same pinches as before but when heimdall predicted it and blocked, instead of kratos punching he threw it and grabbed his arm which allowed him to get that punch and cut his cheek
It's been a while since I beat the game, but is it stated that Heimdall can actually read minds? I was under the impression that his divine sight allowed him to analyze everyone he sees with insane accuracy. He can read their body language, even the subconscious stuff that betrays their inner thoughts. So, it's like he can read their minds, but it's more like a divine, turbo-charged form of Sherlock Holmes scanning his opponents.
I honestly believe that IF Heimdall had actually trained with his OP Hax abilities combined with several years of physical hand to hand combat, he would have been a lot more dangerous of a foe and a lot more difficult for Kratos to beat.
The way anyone can beat Heimdal is to just be faster than him. Even though he can forsee incoming attacks, if he can't physically defend or dodge in time you can grab hold of him.
I feel like it's also important to note that even if you could see the future that doesn't necessarily mean you can stop it as if enough actions happen at one time then you simply can't move fast enough to counteract them all which is definitely being capitalized on by draupnirs duplication ability (brok mentions overloading his senses after all) furthermore Kratos also clears his mind further complicating things so ultimately Heimdall is hit with the perfect combo of a clear and thus unreadable mind coupled with a weapon that can rapidly duplicate and overload his already strained concentration.
Being able to SEE something coming, and being able to ACT on it, are two different things. If you notice the flurries of punches, they get faster each time. He's testing Heimdall's reflex speed and then lets his body run at a speed his opponent can't match.
i haven't watched the whole video but i think they made heimball attackable after that cheek strike, it could be that the game wanted to give a challenging bossfight but not an almost impossible one imo

or, you can say he did not know or expect the weapon to be infinite and can explode and be thrown and another one appears again, so it caught him off-guard and from that explosion moment he felt fear and shaking so he himself lost focus on his mind reading powers, and also kratos's skills with the spear, keep in mind he bled for the first time for ages from that explosion he didnt anticipate, so of course he would be staggered.
ik this is a weird reference, But a IRL technique Called "mushin no shin" is essentially what Kratos pulled off. Letting his body fight for him, not the mind.
If someone is really fast and good, it doesn't matter if other can predict a few moments of their actions. Because even if they can see the punch before it being delivered, they just have no way of countering, dodging or blocking the attack. Professional boxer will punch me in the face, even if I know what they are going to do, because I do not have enough skill and ability to avoid it. And even if I avoid it, I can do so in wrong, bad manner, which will cause a reaction from my better fighting opponent and they will put me in such a situation, where I cannot prevent the next hit from landing. They did not even planned it, they just reacted to my bad dodge with good next attack. I put myself in this situation with my bad dodge, where even seeing the next attack-reaction of opponent just doesn't matter.
Also I think most people notified but kratos was planning his punch combo from the start, in the begging it’s evidently slower and heimdall didn’t realize it was himself who was being read
Awesome video but I would argue given the context, Heimdall's line about Kratos having an empty head was meant moreso as an insult rather than Kratos literally not having any thoughts in his head. Heimdall was clearly very mad that Kratos not only beat him in combat but also wouldn't even treat him like a respectful enemy by granting him a warrior's death which would send Heimdall to Valhalla which is basically their Heaven. Instead, Kratos gives Heimdall nothing except pity and mercy at that moment which would obviously cause the arrogant Heimdall to spit out some insults such as Kratos being empty headed which is also just another way of calling someone stupid. But overall your theory about Kratos not having to think to use his spear effectively undoubtedly makes a lot of sense. Kratos' use of the spear would be almost entirely muscle memory given it was the main weapon of the Spartans. AND Kratos' magic spear can spawn into existence infinitely which would give Heimdall an infinite amount of variables to try to keep track of with his foresight and all it would take is one slip up to get his and then start loosing his focus due to his arrogant personality. Also on top of muscle memory given Kratos the advantage of not being able to have his thoughts on attack mindread, his shear strength and speed alone would eventually just guarantee a hit on Heimdall no matter what level his foresight operated on. Lol I don't care how much you can predict someone's attacks, if you are trapped in an arena, fighting someone faster, stronger, and more aggressive than you are then you're just gonna get hit eventually like mathematically unless you somehow escape the arena all together. Not to mention that although Heimdall's foresight is godly it's not like he can actually see into the future like the fates could. (And even that couldn't stop Kratos from killing them and changing his fate thanks to the help of Gaia in God of War 2.)
3:57 you missed one hell of an opportunity to throw a DBZA Vegeta reference by saying, " Kratos proceeded to pound him so hard, Heimdalls mother would be jealous.."😏😏😏
I think Heimdall has ultra instinct. When we think about, combatants do not think about how to attack when they attack, especially a seasoned warrior like Kratos. Heimdall would have to process what they were thinking and then use the appropriate method to avoid it during the fight, which is extremely inefficient. Heimdall seems to be avoiding the attacks instinctually with no effort, and it seems to be due to his own innate ability to avoid being hit, rather than as a result of reading the mind. Notice right before heimdall gets hit, he grabs kratos arm. There is bowhere for him to go because they are locked now. This is the same thing that happened when Jiren hit mastered ultra instinct goku the very first time in Dragon ball super. Goku blocked his attack, and Jiren used this connection to make sure Goku could not avoid his follow up attack. Getting hit can cause you to lose focus, so you are pretty spot on as to why Heimdall started getting hit after the first strike. He went from certainty to doubt and anger, and lost his focus as a result.
He‘s a god, we‘ve seen them do split second decissions on multiple occasions. Heimdall could probably process incoming strikes way faster than any other human, just considering the fact that he most likely has centuries of experience with his skills. I don‘t know wether you mean the actual form of UI but Heimdall clearly isn‘t in some state of tranquility here. He constantly mocks and provokes his foes. I do reckon that he is profifient enough as a combatant to instinctively dogde most attacks but his foresight is the key enhancement that makes him do that so flawlessly most of the time. And besides that, I don‘t think you can assume that fantastical techniques exist across other fictional universes as well.
@@yyhra When I say ultra instinct, I’m referring to the core principle of mushin no shin, not literal Ultra Instinct. What you say would make sense if his opponent was not kratos, who has speed feats that surpass the likes of Heimdall. Besides, he stated that Kratos’ head was “empty”, so what was he reading the first half of the fight when he was perfectly dodging everything? Only explanation I can think of is that Heimdall’s “mind reading “ is not him actually reading thoughts, but sensing something else from his opponents.
Actually, Kratos grabbed Heimdall's arm when he tried to block. In truth, Heimdall's reflexes are pretty crappy with having relied on foresight for so long, and it showed in the fight, especially in the final phase. He had no idea how ro actually fight, so he threw a tantrum.
@@hunterg.1300 Your right, I slowed it down and heimdall blocked, and then Kratos grabbed. Its a similar idea though, as he has nowhere to go now. Alot of people get sloppy when they get frustrated, thats why its usually a good idea to keep calm in combat.
@@sagearmaggedon7307 I do still think that that principle still doesn't apply to Heimdall. For me it just fits thematically that he isn't a noteworthy warrior without his foresight. Just some madman flailing around wildy, hoping he could land decisive strikes once pressured. To me someone like him as a character isn't fit to use such profound things properly. If you have fun with that idea however, go for it, even I have my own headcanon when thinking about stuff like this.
@@abdbay While Goku has been known to calm and clear his mind to best an opponent, he is far better known for being a bit to a lot dense - an 'empty head'.
If you ever played Valhalla. Just before your first match with Týr. It was also pointed out that Kratos can seperate his thoughts and his body's movements during a fight. Kratos simply do not to think in order to act. "Because for us. Fighting occupies the body. While our minds does the rest." - Týr
I think draupnir itself helped. Kratos did clear his mind, but he could have done that with any old spear. What gave draupnir an edge is how it's future constantly branching. It's too many variables to consider, due to the spear duplicating over and over. It overloaded him. That combined with Kratos trying to attack on instinct rather than forethought is how he beat him.
I gotta be honest I don't know why this fight confused people so much. Heimdall clearly states during the fight "what's going on in that empty head if yours?" Kratos was fighting off pure instinct. He didn't have to think. He knew the goal. And let himself act without thought
What gave kratos the advantage when fighting a god? You do know he is the god killer. That alone is all the information you need. Even the norns blatantly said, "You kill gods". Its what he does lol as someone who knows a lot about this franchise im dissapointed in you for even posing this question.
@abdbay ahh in which case I'd say it's his sheer tenacity coupled with his monstrous physical and magical abilities, those including his combat experience make him the god killer.
I still say you have to call Kratos’ missed swings as a setup too. Start with slow and telegraphed attacks and get faster tighter with the swings to control the fight better.
Another thing I noticed is that when Kratos flips heimdal over to grab gjallerhorn he fumbles with it, Kratos would not normally do this were it not for his own horror in killing heimdal
I've always had the theory that Heimdall lost to Kratos due to the stark difference between them in terms of athletics and combative skill. To put it simply, I figured that Kratos was so far above Heimdall in these aspects, that while Heimdall could read his every thought and move, he lacked the physical prowess to keep up with him and simply became overwhelmed by the constant onslaught of attacks Kratos threw at him. I also figured that the reason why Kratos was so far above Heimdall in this way is simply because if someone could always see the future, why would they ever need to learn to fight? Every fight against them is supposedly futile. So his foresight was essentially a crutch up until it simply couldn't carry him anymore against the wrath of the God of War.
It was a mix of clearing his mind, and simply being faster than Heimdall. Hence the point of the scene shown where he coulf dodge Kratos, then had to suddenly block, then got hit.
When heimdall face thor, he knew he gona lose to thor too. Heimdall seem hard to fight instinct base warrior like thor and kratos. Beside what u said in video, Kratos speed too fast, make heimdall very hard to predict-> dodge-> counter. He taken down god of speed just to remember
Heimdall still has to think about how to counter based on what he reads from his opponent's mind. Kratos was speeding up his attacks and fighting on instinct, not thinking. Eventually he ramps up his speed enough that he outpaces Heimdall's thought process. Heimdall's fighting style is reliant on reading thoughts, thinking quickly to counter the intention of his opponent, then acting on it. Heimdall never fights on instinct, hence he can be overpowered by it.
Heimdall could predict every movement of his opponents BUT he isn't fast enough to dodge all of them. The key to defeat him is to overwhelm his senses.
I saw in a different video that aproaches the same topic, it explains that daupnir explodes in an random order, which is why Heimdall couldnt dodge these sort of attacks leaving that initial oppening ending in everything you perfectly explained, cool huh?
The spear definitely made it easier but I still believe Kratos could of killed him without it. If all it takes is to be in a stay without thought, I’m sure he has taught himself to clear his mind and remain static, a few monks in a comic do this where they think of an image, or fake thought to cloud their mind and prevent mind readers from access to their mind. With all his Spartan training plus years of god killing and evolutionary experience in becoming a better person I’m fairly certain Kratos can do the same and so theoretically he can defeat heimdall with just about any weapon, it’s just the spear made it a lot easier for him due to its many projectiles and ease of use

@@yogurtgod5605no won lol
@@eyeomen ?
Clearing his mind dosent do nothing since heimdall can also see your intent. The only reason kratos won was because of plot and draupnir.
@@yogurtgod5605If your intent is to kill him no matter what... 😏. Maybe he just got ultra instinct who knows.
@@yogurtgod5605By the way, brok blessed the draupnir spear by spitting on it, so maybe that is how he won.
I like to think heimdall saw everything kratos did to the greek gods in his final moments, which is why he called him a monster
Either that or he saw everything Kratos WANTED to do to him, but his emotional maturity stopped him from doing.....

This is important but watch the 3 exchanges that lead up to Heimdall being hit.:
1) This first combo is slow, Kratos is just testing him and his alleged foresight firsthand, he wants to see how Heimdall move and reacts, trying to hit him is not the goal on this exchange
2) The 2nd combo is faster but Kratos catches something as did I, he almost actually hit Heimdall on his last punch and his block was super late, verifying what Brok said and that Heimdall doesn't have foresight.
Kratos tried to let Heimdall live even but Heimdall lost total control and made Kratos kill him
Nice one
Look at dana white here
As soon as Heimdall was even slightly injured, he loses it.
"LUCK, that's all it is"
Stats on the spear "plus 50 luck"
I think this has a two fold explication.
One he is In Danial over the fact that Kratos got hits In.
And two it’s a meta joke because of the spear giving a boost to the luck stat.
All in all there are several reasons why he lost.
Most of them are covered in the video. But there are a few more. Like how Kratos is just straight out a more skilled fighter. While Himdal has basically zero fighting skill.
Plus I’m pretty sure Kratos is just way faster than Himdal. Predicting and reading your opponents movements is worthless if you can’t react fast enough to them.
@@wildstorm3486 gpt is that you?
@@AkiraHartono??? What’s gpt?
Or it could just be that Kratos attacked faster than Heimdall's body could move to dodge Kratos' attack. Sure Heimdall could predict all of Kratos' moves but that means nothing if his body's physical speed wasn't fast enough for Heimdall to move out of the way of Kratos' attacks.
Possibly…
Their experience creates so many variables that predictions become redundant…is what I think
yeah, this theory is more interesting. 😆

They like to believe that he truly is unbeatable, despite the fact that Thor had him backing down and that Kratos said that Draupnir was his BEST option, not his only option (because let's be real, he would have found a way without the spear if it came to it, given his past victories and discipline). They like to make up stuff to "support" this, such as the false in-game lines of Freya saying that Heimdall could match Thor (again, no character ever even suggested that, because it's made up) or claiming that Twitter posts from creators said that Heimdall wasn't scared of Thor, "just disgusted." Yet, when you ask them for proof, a link, or any sort of evidence to find this supposed post, they basically go, "Uh, I forgot." I think as well as the reasons in the video Heimdal’s own frustration of being struck made him too angry to concentrate, like Odin said “sometimes he forgets to think” so he kept making mistakes getting more frustrated throughout the fight as no one else has ever shown him such disrespect and kept getting away with it.

I'm glad to see another Draupnir enthusiast Leviathan > Blades
I think another factor is that Heimdall’s body is slower than his mind reading. As it has been said before, Kratos was testing Heimdall’s speed in his first few attacks. Heimdall is fast, Kratos is faster.
Agreed. It's similar to the sharingan in Naruto Sasuke was able to read Rock Lee's attack but wasn't physically fast enough to stop it.
This is not true. Heimdall can still outmaneuver Spartan Rage Kratos. It isn't a speed thing, it's skill and luck.

Good points!!
You are overthinking the explanation is quite simple
Santa monica: AH FK! We make Heimdall to op. We make this this spear to overwhelming his senses i guess...whatever
Heimdall had his senses overloaded by the draupnir spear. it explodes in a flash of white light. every spear you burst is a flashbang.

What i alwasy asked,
Notice how Heimdall comments in his phase 2 cutscene, " What is going on in that empty Head...?"
Think its a literal translation of kratos clearing his mind and focusing.
"LUCK! That's all this is!!"-Heimdall
His natural reaction to block was only an issue when he realizes that the speed at which Kratos was outputting
exceeds Heimdals ability.
Once he got scared it was game over
0:50 that's a very big claim.
How are any, any of you asking this? It was painfully clear how in the game. He overloaded his senses with the spear… hence why it was created.
I call bs that Heimdall couldn't see Kratos intentions just explode the spear in his face and stun him. Almost sounds like they nerfed his foresight.
The Draupnir spear also has a Schroedingers cat quality that Heimdall could not foresee.

He cleared his mind but also a big thing we can't overlook is how very frustrated Heimdall was getting and losing manage focus.
Remember when he mentioned to Atreus / Loki that Heimdall is "Very perspective but sometimes he just forgets to think, you know?"
This would mean that Heimdall could have already thought of a counter for Kratos's spear, like using his slow-time ability, or just outright dodge them to the point that Kratos would have to resort to AOE attacks from his entire arsenal which would take some thought to do.
I like that you consider that he just might be brain dead😂😂
Perceptive, not perspective. Perceptive means good at noticing things, perspective means point of view.

Great analysis. I think we need to see games and movies more as opportunities to reflect on our own learnings and personal growth
Odin says to atreus that heimdal reads minds for him.
He can’t read minds he reads intentions
So in a way yeah
He can red people’s intentions, but can only truly read minds when looking in the eyes
Ultimately Heimdall was a lazy idiot who wasted one of the strongest powers imaginable by being content to just rely on it.
Heimdall thought Kratos going to spare him. Instead, Kratos spear him
I feel like it's also important to note that even if you could see the future that doesn't necessarily mean you can stop it as if enough actions happen at one time then you simply can't move fast enough to counteract them all which is definitely being capitalized on by draupnirs duplication ability (brok mentions overloading his senses after all) furthermore Kratos also clears his mind further complicating things so ultimately Heimdall is hit with the perfect combo of a clear and thus unreadable mind coupled with a weapon that can rapidly duplicate and overload his already strained concentration.
Kratos grabbed his hand when he tried to block stoping him from dodging

So, in other words, Heimdall died because he fell prey to the same thinking of every god Kratos has killed. They underestimated him.
Kratos Anger is always happened on reallife always remember that people have inner Monsters and The Most Dangerous Individuals are quiet and calm people just like Kratos did is he empty his mind but in reality persons with unknown backgrounds are most dangerous individuals that knows how to kill
“Quiet people are dangerous”
No, unhinged people are dangerous, most quiet people are just shy or quiet, it says nothing or how “dangerous” they are.
@@werewolfdragon4740 yea the only people who say "quiet people are dangerous" are just usually the quiet kids in class who are insecure and wanted more out of themselves so they project it onto other quiet dangerous people
CHRISTIANITY IS COMING TO GOD OF WAR: th-cam.com/video/of-iHtClDS8/w-d-xo.html
I fkin hope not
or, you can say he did not know or expect the weapon to be infinite and can explode and be thrown and another one appears again, so it caught him off-guard and from that explosion moment he felt fear and shaking so he himself lost focus on his mind reading powers, and also kratos's skills with the spear, keep in mind he bled for the first time for ages from that explosion he didnt anticipate, so of course he would be staggered.
ik this is a weird reference, But a IRL technique Called "mushin no shin" is essentially what Kratos pulled off.
Also I think most people notified but kratos was planning his punch combo from the start, in the begging it’s evidently slower and heimdall didn’t realize it was himself who was being read
its like kratos told mimir, "my intention is to kill him, that will be of no advantage"
"Brother, this is no one to underestimate, any move you make he'll have seen it coming."
It would have been cool if you played the Svartalfheim Draupnir Spear theme in the background of this video
WHAT'S NEXT FOR KRATOS? A God of WAR or A God of HOPE? A REMAKE in The Making FINALLY REVEALED: th-cam.com/video/o__XrSN-DAo/w-d-xo.html
Obviously if Heimdall Knows of Kratos Before the Fight like Thor Does He Should've Known the First Weapon Kratos Ever Wielded was a Spartan Spear
Aside from Kratos Obviously Being a God Of War Which could Give Him the Power To Have Complete Knowledge and Mastery Over Any Weapon at His Disposal
Kratos: THAT'S RIGHT I AM THE IMPOSSIBLE!

Goku: Empty head? Lemme at him!
I don’t get this reference
@@abdbay While Goku has been known to calm and clear his mind to best an opponent, he is far better known for being a bit to a lot dense - an 'empty head'.
i think this whole vid can be summed up by what odin said about hiemdal: “He’s very perceptive, he’s just forgets to *think* “
"There was a hare. And a tortoise. Sure of himself, the hare didn't take his opponent seriously, and the tortoise won."
If you ever played Valhalla. Just before your first match with Týr. It was also pointed out that Kratos can seperate his thoughts and his body's movements during a fight. Kratos simply do not to think in order to act.
"Because for us. Fighting occupies the body. While our minds does the rest."
- Týr
I think draupnir itself helped. Kratos did clear his mind, but he could have done that with any old spear. What gave draupnir an edge is how it's future constantly branching. It's too many variables to consider, due to the spear duplicating over and over. It overloaded him. That combined with Kratos trying to attack on instinct rather than forethought is how he beat him.
I gotta be honest I don't know why this fight confused people so much. Heimdall clearly states during the fight "what's going on in that empty head if yours?"
Kratos was fighting off pure instinct. He didn't have to think. He knew the goal. And let himself act without thought
My point exactly!
What gave kratos the advantage when fighting a god? You do know he is the god killer. That alone is all the information you need. Even the norns blatantly said, "You kill gods". Its what he does lol as someone who knows a lot about this franchise im dissapointed in you for even posing this question.
I never doubted his ability to kill gods. The questions I pose are to get you thinking about how he can kill gods not why or if he can :)
@abdbay ahh in which case I'd say it's his sheer tenacity coupled with his monstrous physical and magical abilities, those including his combat experience make him the god killer.
It's also noted later in the Valhalla dlc that Kratos said he fought God's stronger than heimdal previously
Odin’s spear Gungir is known to never miss so maybe it’s a reference to that
BRO WHO THINKS IN A FIGHT.....SO U R TELLING ME, U R GONNA THINK ABOUT THROWING 4
PUNCHES
Heimdall: "I can read your intentions."
Kratos: "Then you can read the ass whoppin I'm giving you."
heimdall was one of the best fights, it gave that classic god of war nemesis feel
You can also see that Heimdall's stun bar is full during the fight, which allows how he has no focus and why kratos can hit him more
I still say you have to call Kratos’ missed swings as a setup too. Start with slow and telegraphed attacks and get faster tighter with the swings to control the fight better.
Its like brok said you got to over stimulate his senses
You my friend, might just put me out of business ;)
Heimdall probably was able to dodge Kratos first landed punch by less than half milimeter, but the draupnir (gold ring) cuts his cheek.
So he went ultra instinct, feats of an experienced fighter
Have you ever went ultra instinct?
The spear definitely made it easier but I still believe Kratos could of killed him without it. If all it takes is to be in a stay without thought, I’m sure he has taught himself to clear his mind and remain static, a few monks in a comic do this where they think of an image, or fake thought to cloud their mind and prevent mind readers from access to their mind. With all his Spartan training plus years of god killing and evolutionary experience in becoming a better person I’m fairly certain Kratos can do the same and so theoretically he can defeat heimdall with just about any weapon, it’s just the spear made it a lot easier for him due to its many projectiles and ease of use
it's also the fact that heimdall isn't a skilled warrior in fact he's one of slopiest aesir next to modi
@@davidemanuelarroyoportacio9499 exactly, and that’s due to him being so overconfident about his abilities
All good points!!
Spartans typically favoured short spears. But fine spear fighting & short spear fighting have commonalities.
