  • This video footage of the SETS "Last Train" tour is presented here in a completely raw and unedited format, although it was originally intended for editing. Just to get a few things in perspective;
    1.) It was shot on a 2nd hand Sanyo hi-8 camera purchased from a porn shop in St Marys in 1990, by an (at that time) unemployed TAFE student who had lots of other things on his mind.
    2.) You are going to see a lot of famous faces on this video, some of them no longer with us.
    3.) This was the very last time an 8 car single deck set ran in Sydney.
    4.) This was the very last time an enthusiast tour ran with open doors.
    5.) It is presented in unedited form because there are lots of important things happening (particularly on the soundtrack) in places that would otherwise be cut out.
    Watch, Observe, Look, Listen. You are peeking in to a universe that no longer exists, and that (thank gawd) I was still able to be part of. Enjoy.
    This was the beginning of a very, very long chapter in single deck electric preservation that led us to where we are today.

    There was no greater freedom in this world than a 'speed run' on the western line with the doors open. It's sad I was born too late to experience this, but am thankful for the vicarious experience which your video has afforded.

    Thanks for sharing this video and the one of C3102. Parramatta to Penrith looked like fun with the doors open as did the ride to Milson's Point. Now people continue to get the chance to ride C3426 and hopefully one day C3102 may reappear as well. I take it that C3104 is still out there somewhere (safe and secure)?

      3102 will indeed return within a few years. 3104 however was released to SETS by the incumbent Office of Rail Heritage back in 2010. It was moved to a private members' property at that time where it remains today. Albeit under cover and relatively safe, it is basically now the property of the landholders upon where it is stored and is unlikely ever to be seen again. Meanwhile 3218 (missing from Set F1 for the past 6 months) will soon be on the move and is expected to be back in the set before it's next public run.

    Shoot... 666 views. That might explain the static at the start.

      @@griffinrails HMC. I was there. And "Bugsy" was always a HMC thing.
