The compression release on the 2017 17.5 Intek Briggs will cause some carnage if the pressure release lever gets trapped between the rod and the block.
Reviews on the Brigg's Amazon account, 2 years ago said don't waste your time on a new cam from Briggs OEM. Aftermarket cams were worse. Breaking in 1 day.
Doesn't say if they were using good oil, or not; but mine was salvageable. Just have to place your hand over the air intake to crank it. Not worth buying a new engine or camshaft over. The cam lobes look great. If a new one is going to break anyways, just keep the engine I got. It's still 17.5hp.
I have a 23hp Kawasaki cousin to this one. Hopefully the rats was this one's only problem.
Still have to adjust the valves on mine after 2 seasons.
Yeah Briggs had alot of problems with those cams. I have put alot of oem Briggs cams in and they seemed to last after replacement. But it's not a cheap fix. The aftermarket cams are bad out of the box in my experience.
