Both the two first vehicles I owned were ww2 military. One was the 42 Ford GPW, second was a 41 Dodge closed cab 1/2 ton pick up with a winch. Both of them already had legit Oregon titles and had been through a lot of owners. Both also luckily had matching serial numbers from the frame. My buddy bought a 3/4 ton 41 Weapons carrier and when we checked serial number on the title it didn't match what was on the frame. We had to take it to the state police here in Portland and they inspected it, realized it was really what the title said but the serial number did not match anything on the truck. Luckily the officer was used to dealing with old military and other vehicles and said that was pretty typical and they probably used the number off a long gone engine because people were always swapping them or something. He asked what number we wanted to use so said use the frame number and that's what he did, no problem. This was in the late 70s, early 80s so things may have changed but it was easy enough back then with a signed bill of sale and the title here. The numbers originally on the hoods were the vin/frame number on these rigs when they were new anyway.

Most people I know, apply for the title via another state ea California or Washington via a local resident or a postal address. 50usd and a handwritten bill of sale will do in most cases. Just did one from Nevada in California.

I’ve got a 1943 gpw and the only thing I have on it are the frame tag and an Oregon license plate with the only tag on it being from 2012. and I live in Canada so I’m going to have a lot of fun .

Good info. You pretty much covered most of what I’ve been wondering. Are there any limitations as to where and when you can drive. I thought I found something last night in the LS code about classic built or antique vehicles only being allowed to drive to and from shows and displays. But I can’t find it now. Ideally, you want it as a recreational vehicle on or off road to take camping, hunting, fishing or backroad travel

Often times you’ll see that language in insurance policies for collector cars. In most cases we don’t car enthusiasts don’t drive them enough to create an issue.

Hi John great videos! Would you happen to know the body tub number of your jeep? It's located on the left front gusset attached to the fire wall. Thanks so much and looking forward to more about your slat grill jeep. Mine was built on 12-22-41.

Each state is different. Most of what you said is very LA specific. Viewers should always use caution when buying a vehicle with no title.
