Which comedians? As far as I know comedians mimic his voice because its unique (just like Arnie), but they dont mock his IQ...in fact the story of making the Rocky film is always considered as the prime example of struggling and making it big.
He may be known for all these big dumb tough guys he’s been playing for 40 years, but - and it’s evident in this interview - this man is one of the most supremely intelligent men in Hollywood. I’ve actually watched this clip a couple times cause I’m always astounded by the elegance and the intellect on display.
When I listen to this and watch the movie it sounds like he's just full of shit. The Rambo in the movie just doesn't seem like a talker. The guy who edited this movie should have gotten an oscar if the John Rambo character was uttering these idiotic lines Stallone is talking because it doesn't sound like the character would say this dumb shit in the dialogue scenes that do come threw. It makes me think Stallone is over dramatizing how ridiculous the lines were.
Are you kidding me…Rambo was and still is one of the greatest movies ever made. “Let it go, let it go or I give you a war you won’t believe” and the music in scene was a killer.
Stallone is awesome because he's the "Columbo" of Hollywood. He plays it low-key and unassuming, but he's often the smartest person in the room and four steps ahead of those who claim to know better.
What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I love whenever Stallone talks about Rocky, because you can tell how much of himself and his heart is in that. It was everything. Regardless of how big of a star he became, that same street kid turned boxer was always the same. He always seem an humble and sincere about it.
Yeah, but if I offered you 100 thousand dollars for you car, and you took it, wouldn't you feel like crap if I turned around and sold it for 100 Million?
First Blood is still about my favorite movie, that music, the scenery, the intensity, awesome, still watch it every time it comes on. And Stallone, cut as hell in all of them, what discipline, legend.
Yes I read they couldnt afford the permits to shoot in Philadelphia so they had to rush to get it under the radar. The best films are art through adversity. Star wars a new hope george was reigned in bc he didnt have the money or power to call all the shots. Things go bad when u have yes men around and not challenge.
I have to thank him and Arnold for liking to hit the gym up to this day. I grew up watching them and thinking. Damn I want to be strong like them. If only they knew how many people they inspired to live better.
I met him many times, my best friends god father, and father was his body guard and in his movies. Tony Munafo was his name and sly were best friends, Tony died last year and his son was an extra in the last blood.
For his perseverance alone, he deserves every bit of his success - never mind that the dude wrote Rocky, which screenwriting professors could use to teach screenwriting classes. Great great film.
Sylvester Stallone is my idol! He is actually an incredibly brilliant man who has strove forward in Hollywood for many years to become as successful and renowned as he is now! ~Dutch
He's always been a witty guy. I remember in one interview he described how they would kind of go crazy preparing for Rocky sequels. He said you know you're working out too much when you start getting veins in your hair...guy is hilarious!
There was two major action actors back in the 80s and 90s, Sly and Arnold. For me, two great actors but I draw a distinction between the two. Arnold plays and acts with his head and Sly always with the heart. But two amazing people and gave me many wonderful moments in Cinemas. Thank you Sylvester Stallone.
Phenomenal Interview. Stallone would make an amazing teacher of the art. As a Story Teller, Screen Writer and Actor he has amassed a deep well of wisdom in film. He truly has paid his dues. Thank you for the memories of your Grit!
Sylvester's first movie is like a Bands first album you have your whole life to write it and plan for it it can be done in a short amount of time because the pre production was done years before
Sly's intelligence is extremely underappreciated. I've seen comedians make fun of him but it always feels like they're missing something in their impression of him. It's his intelligence. I dont believe in Role models but this guy is someone I think fits... no... is the mold of something like that. I envy him.
Sly inspired Matt Damon and Ben Affleck when they were trying to get Good Will Hunting made. They got the exact same feedback from studios that he did for his script in that 'we love the script, let us pay you and cast some well known stars' and Matt Damon said their response to this was to use the principle that Stallone started to let studios know that they didn't know what they were talking about and they would do a better job than anyone they could get even though they were nobodies at the time. It's a shining light to any young writers/actors out there when they feel pressured by money men
Stallone is an awesome guy....I've read his books, Sly magazine, and Rocky is one of my favorite movies. The poignant parts of these movies hold up over time. Now he makes family vids and damn if those aren't fun to watch too. This is a good match. Stern does interviews really well and he's genuinely interested in his guests and always asks great questions. I'd prefer just Howard but I understand loyalty.... thanks for the video.
Even though I was born in 1998, some of my favorite films to watch was the Rocky and Rambo films. My father only kind of liked the first film of each, but I fell in love with each one - with the exception of the most recent Rocky and Rambo film(sixth Rocky film and the fifth Rambo).
Love sly. Such an amazing life story. Did so much for all of us with the rocky series. Changed lives, taught a lesson to never give up. And even though he has quite a few dumpster fire movies and cheesy roles, he CAN ACT! If you don’t believe it watch Cop Land.
@thomas wright they would if they wanted to but sirius has to make $ somehow and howard makes it for them lol literally the only reason they are still relevant
I remember watching it as a 13 year old. I would tell my best friend, "All that dipshit of a Sheriff had to do was just NOT fuck with him and let him go into town for a hot meal, but OH NO.....he had to start shit and be the tough guy. Watch Jim...Rambo gonna finish that that fat fuck sheriff started." LOL.... even almost 40 years later I can still remember me saying that. It was a great movie.
The part where Sly tells the story of how the studio was going to keep him on a very short leash is true. The studio didn't want a rogue situation on their hands with artistic battles. There is a scene in Rocky where director John G. Avildsen was happy with the take and was fine to move on , however Sly convinced him please one more take I got something. Aware of the " artistic concerns " Sly convinced him to trust him and it was going to be habitual. The scene in question was the night before the fight and he's lying in bed witj A driene and he delivers the mologue : Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin', I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood." It's the take they used in the final cut and a memorable moment. I'm sure the lines and the delivery resonated in Slys personal life during that time because that film changed his life. As an artist he was on his way. Gonna fly now he did. Great film one of my all time favorites
Not a fan of the sequels but the First Blood is work of art. Heard similar story about A New Hope. Apparently good editor is worth his/her weight in gold.
Brilliant bit of advice at the end there when he mentions changing the dialogue in Rambo so the other characters build up the mythos, not John Rambo himself just going around telling you how badass he is.
That’s very true about First Blood, the script had been knocked around Hollywood for 10 years and at one point had Steve McQueen starring, then Al Pacino
First Blood is a film very close to my heart having seen it many times s a kid..and to this day still think it is the best thing Sylvester did outside of the Rocky films and maybe F.I.S.T and Nighthawks.
SIKE01 eh it was good for that kinda movie but it’s been done so many times at that point if he wasn’t getting one for rocky definitely not getting one for creed
@@Jakem763 At the end of the day he still got an Oscar for the first Rocky's screenplay so no matter what he can be billed as Academy Award Winner Sylvester Stallone similar to how Matt Damon is for writing GWH.

Comedians for decades would make fun of Stallone, say he's dumb, but he's obviously a brilliant dude.
Brilliant Brilliant guy
I guess it never occurred to them he was “acting”
Which comedians? As far as I know comedians mimic his voice because its unique (just like Arnie), but they dont mock his IQ...in fact the story of making the Rocky film is always considered as the prime example of struggling and making it big.
Those comedians can't write, produce and act in successful films. They feed off clown soup.

I’ve actually watched this clip a couple times cause I’m always astounded by the elegance and the intellect on display.
Taking Rambos dialogue out was a genius decision.
Made the character...a loner
I’m sure they got the idea from watching Arnold in NY LOL.
The quiet strong brooding ex vet comes across sooooooo much better.

I noticed that too! Great point. He's class. Pure class.

Couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Rocky. I’m glad he stuck it out. $360k is no joke especially back then
About $1.7MM in today dollars. That is true belief in yourself and vision to be broke and hold out like that. Awesome.
Yeah, but if I offered you 100 thousand dollars for you car, and you took it, wouldn't you feel like crap if I turned around and sold it for 100 Million?
After some googling, it looks like that is worth about 1.6 million today with inflation and all that.
