The moon in Power Rangers has always had gravity and an atmosphere ever since season one.
I've literally seen a child ride on the galaxy glider while they were in space and yes she wasn't wearing anything at all.

As for why they didn't "go back" to black instead of green for the color scheme that's because red, blue, yellow, green and pink are the standard colors for Super Sentai. As those are the colors of the very first Sentai, Himitsu Sentai Goranger.

Yeah the teams were Red-Blue-Green-Yellow-Pink from OhRanger until GaoRanger when it went Red-Black-Blue-Yellow-White[-Silver](which'd show up again in AbaRanger). The odd duck from this little window was Hurricanger with Red-Yellow-(Light)Blue-Crimson-(Navy)Blue-Green

the "you're welcome mums" bit is doubly funny because this is the exact casting philosophy of Sentai and Kamen Rider. Cast hot young male models to appeal to the moms who watch the show with their kids. There's even a name for it, the "Odagiri Effect," from the guy who played Kamen Rider Kuuga, Joe Odagiri.
Which is made even funnier by the fact that even though Joe Odagiri would be the man to start said effect he absolutely does not like the Tokusatsu genre in general. He also tried for a part on GoGoFive but did not land a role.
@@nicholasmontgomery9626 True, but he’s not bitter. He actually really took offense to the notion that he removed the show from his resume, and kept in touch with co stars. He mainly didn’t want to be typecast.
@@phantombroker6856 Oh definitely. He may not like tokusatsu but he definitely put his all into his character and he's even gone on to say that he doesn't mind Kuuga with how well it turned out. I mean, not only did he create the Odagiri Effect but Kuuga is also responsible for reviving Kamen Rider as a franchise since the last series to debut was Back RX in the late 80s. Definitely a man worthy of respect imo. It's just a shame he hasn't reprised his role as Kuuga. Man aged like fine wine.

To me, Terra Venture looks like the love child of the Dark Fortress and the Astro Megaship.
- Also, clip shows aren't about not having ideas, they're about saving money.
- The writers of Lost Galaxy didn't have a choice. The higher-ups saw how popular In Space was and declared this season had to be space-themed too. Power Rangers is on a shoestring budget so they really can't afford to make their own show without the sentai footage. Lightspeed Rescue was going to be set in space originally too.

So the Dino Thunder rangers are Extinction Rangers, and Dino Charge Rangers are... Dino Charge Rangers.

@@progamertem4829 Eh, Zeo Crystal/Power Coin. MMPR is fine. It also explains the Alien rangers, an alien Ninja and Zordon gave them coins/zords.
Turbo should be be R/C rangers, because they're just the filtered/diluted Zeo powers. And like how You charge a remote control car with the house electricity, Turbo powers are charged by the Zeo crystal.
Inspace is the real issue. K035 knows of Zordon, but he's only been in space for 1 years. So either Andros is a 1 year Rookie, or Zordon didn't make the Astro Morphers (which is weird consider how involed he was in the Zord process for DECA) or Ninjor didn't make power coins for them.
So What's the In Space power source? Did Zordon make the Rangers go to Turbo powers, so Several worlds could be protected by Zeo crystal charged Rangers? Is Andros' team originally his world's version of Lightspeed Rescue and made by the rebels/KO35 organaization? Or maybe something like he Ninja Prism

Is Lightspeed Rescue just rebuilt from the destroyed Turbo zords/powers? Same color/theme and we have no power source. Tor is still at the bottom of the ocean, maybe He's the Lightspeed aqua base.
What powers the Timeforce powers? Is it just an extension of Lightspeed Rescue/Silver Guardians into SPD into Time force? So are SPD and Time Force also using Zeo powers? All 4 teams have same 5 basic colors.
The Scorpina idea rant is cool, but Lost Galaxy was trying to both be a continuation and it’s own thing hence Trakeena who by the way was cool in her own right. Also I wouldn’t question the logistics because PR. Besides compared to recent seasons, Lost Galaxy is good. And yeah good luck trying to normalize “Quasar Rangers” instead of “Lost Galaxy Rangers.”
There's a reason why Trakeena is considered one of the best power rangers villains.

The tech level of this series actually makes sense with the amount of alien crap left on earth after the Zordon era, Terra Venture was likley reverse engineered from the dark fortress and the comics give it an entirely different origin

If you think Lost Galaxy/Gingaman have a lot of episodes in common you'd love Time Force/Timeranger. That's the closest adapted season from what I remember. It's a really good season as well. One of my favourites. You might enjoy RPM/Go-Onger as well, but that's more based on how different they are thematically and tonally.
In terms of commonality, there's also Shinkenger/Power Rangers Samurai. Be the shortest episode ever: What's the difference? Fuckin' nothing, they're the same show.
Time ranger is way different. There is no love story between Jan and Alec and all that bullshit OK and Nadira is actually that blue blob character who almost got frozen into toy form. Actually, her daughter is actually his daughter, and then Ransick is actually made up character for the whole storyline to make the love story between Alec and Jen believablethe time ranger was actually they were tricked by a duplicate of Alec or whatever you call in the future to go into the past to get the monsters into the into the past. OK that’s how it happened and then the whole storyline, but the robot storyline about the robot, how it got killed and everything was actually the thing it was extra stuff and all that OK that is what believable but everything else is different.

2 things about Lost Galaxy. 1) Mike, unlike his Sentai counterpart, was NEVER meant to be the Red Ranger. In the power Rangers version everything is part of the power and there is no activation until Leo has the sword, and 2) The Lights of Orion are exactly like the Galactic light and do not Slit until the choose the Rangers. Also Trakeena never actually use any power when she has the saber. She just uses it as a sword. Also there is no indication that there is a prohibition about lifting the sabers after the are out of the stone. It’s the Galaxy Rangers in fact that is mentioned in the theme song. The Space Rangers returned to earth in Lost Galaxy on their Galaxy Gliders. So why wouldn’t the Jet Jammers.
Mike pulled the sword out, so he was meant to be a red (not the, only A). Now since two people drew/used red and pink, does this mean those two pairings share traits and Karone and Leo could have pulled from Stone. Or does it mean once removed anyone can morph and Leo/Karone had nothing "special" in them.
we see Leo draw it again for crossover, so yeah Leo and Karone are close enough that they could have drawn red/pink sabers in E1. So Mike and Leo were both meant to, in the same way Rocky and Jason's order could have been switched by Zordon.
@@kyleellis9177 In Lost Galaxy all of the Galaxy Rangers powers were intrinsic to the sabers. Mike pulled because he was close enough to Leo and was in need. As the powers don’t manifest until Leo had the sword. Karone was literally granted use of the power by Kendrix. Also Kendrix is the only person to pull that pink saber. Watch the first episode Mike is hardly even good. Leo had threaten to go himself to get Mike to go through the portal. Mike overprotective duche, that only saw his brother as a pain that didn’t listen. Mike actually needed to meet the Magna Defender to see Leo for who he really was. He was at his core worthy of being the Red Ranger but never meant to be. For his worthiness and need in fighting Furio he got the Saber. But in his hand it’s just a saber. In Leo’s hand it bestows power.

Hopefully you point out that the American one got its name from the home of the Gingaman, the Lost Galaxy Forest.
Or that the soldiers uniforms are recycled from Starship Troopers.

The Axe that Hyuuga is trying to wield is an “evil” weapon that conflicts with his “holy” powers, so he can’t have both.
This was shown when Ryoma tried to wield the Axe himself and then got his hands burned because of it.

Love these videos man, most importantly you're honest about how these shows come off. As a child, we don't quite understand why our parents are sitting beside us shaking their heads at these shows, but your perspective really does change as an adult. It's fun to look back on. Not to mention you make your videos entertaining to watch (every time "Yeah Science" popped up I laughed)

Don't know why you always say that Gingaman "mirrors" Lost Galaxy considering Gingaman came first. The word "originated" would've worked better, like, "[Insert plot/plot point here] was originated here & Power Rangers used it."

I watched Lost Galaxy as a young teen, and the most memorable part is the middle with Deviot, Villamax, and Trakeena, and also Magna Defender and the cross over and Karone arc. A lot of the early part I really didn't watch and the end got weird with Mutiny but back then I would have never put together all the holes and Lord Zedd appearances.
Okay.
Just pointing this out, the "Elvis" monster is actually a scorpion (his hair being a scorpion stinger that also resembles a pompadour). Basically, every general and their respective monsters had a theme for each. Sanbash and his monsters are themed around insects and leather-clad bikers, Budo's faction are Feudal Japanese warrior sea creatures, Illiess's tribe are based on sorcery and varying mythologies, and Battobas's military force consist of robotic armored warriors. Also, the reason they wanted to enlarge the Earth Beast in the first place was to make him the replacement Daitanix.
The cool part is that each faction of the Balban have their own theme when they drink the Balban Extract and say specific phrases. Like with Budo's clan they usually say the words "But I will have my FINAL ROAR!" Then some dope theme plays while the narrator still states what Balban Extract does

I read somewhere that the reason for Lost Galaxy's shody writing is due to it's rushed production. As In Space was indeed to be the last season, Lost Galaxy was greenlit at the last minute. They were literally making up as they were going along and named the series "Lost Galaxy" prematurely as they were under the notion that Gingaman was Galaxy themed.
PR Samurai had a similar situation, but there solution to that was make everything almost exactly like the Sentai as much as possible, regardless of the many different cultural views of Japan and the west and other things that didn’t mesh well and made that season a mess.
@@brandonlyon730 I've heard that an original script was actually written for Samurai but the producer at the time, convinced Saban that adapting straight from Japan would save them a lot of time and money :'(
@@RaphaelMYT I’ve also read somewhere that Maya’s home planet, which is where the Quasar Sabers are from, was originally gonna be in the Lost Galaxy. That would have made the team being called the Lost Galaxy team make some more sense, as they’re powers would have come from somewhere there and it would have been the final destination of the season.
But due to the troubled production, in the end, the thing the season was named after became a filler arc that was mostly made to save on money.
All this could have prevented if Lost Galaxy (should also give that series a new name) should follow Gingaman's story, set entirely on Earth, instead of making a completely new story with another space motif Power Rangers series, which is not what Gingaman really is.
Funny enough, Gingaman was originally going to be called Gaoranger before the actual Gaoranger came out in 2001, hence Gingaman was meant to have the animal motif. But there was an anime at the time of Gingaman's run that uses the word "Gao".
Toei, not wanting to have a legal battle with an anime studio, decided to change it to Gingaman at the last minute.
@@Isaac-gh5ku True. The problem was that because the previous season was such a hit Saban wanted to continue the "in space" theme. As you said, that really didn't mesh well with the series they were adapting.
I never liked how the destruction of the Centaurus and Stratoforce Megazords is pretty much a side note to the Rangers. These were living creatures and their deaths are met with a shrug. And what happens to Zenith Carrierzord after this? It has no function now what it carried is gone, but it just disappears from the show. Also why were these two Megazords/Galactabeasts broken up into vehicles when none of the others had seperate pieces?
Terra Venture bugs me, they obviously have the various domes with different biomes to account for footage use, but did they take entire cities, mountains, lakes, forests and deserts from Earth and drop them into the domes? Maybe that’s why they need to find a new planet; they’ve taken most of Earth with them! Also, they say they’ve travelled 14 light years in under a year, so Terra Venture must have an FTL drive, but we only ever see it drifting through space.
Lost Galaxy is good show, however when it comes to actually making sense in during some parts it finds itself not really explaining things at all. Like how they could breathe in space and they suddenly go back to earth even though it's impossible to. Where as in Gingaman is explains things much clearly and doesn't really add that much into it to the point we're it gets confusing. It's not that good though its not bad either. Though I still prefer Lost Galaxy even some parts during the show really have no explanation whatsoever.

green is usually the colour that wind/air elemental type things are in most shows, such as ventus in Bakugan, Anemo in Genshin impact, wind element in Yugioh cards and the green bionicle who is wind based.
i guess green has become synonymous with the air element that that is the colour we tent to associate with it, the only 2 other colours would be white which is usually taken by holy or light based magics and yellow which in this case was already taken by lightning, why the green raner in Gingaman was wind though doesn't really make sense though, imo green should of been earth and had a white ranger show up late that would be wind or just had yellow take that power and call it storm power that would include both wind and lightning.

27:03 The Space Rangers use their Galaxy Gliders to navigate through space (we can see that in the last minute of the episode "The Power of Pink"). That's why they left the astro-megaship.
The Trakeena that appears on the Lost Galaxy/Lightspeed Rescue crossover is not played by Amy Miller/Rolle as she quitted due to be unhappy with the script of the crossover while also feeling that the Lost Galaxy should've had a bigger screen time that they had. Also Haim Saban cutting her salary didn't help matters. As the result the character ended up portrayed by Jennifer Burns, which explains Trakeena having her face partly covered during the crossover.
Something I wish PR did more often was differentiate the monster species.
I had a much greater appreciation for Gingaman’s monsters than for Lost Galaxy despite them both using the same costumes.
The way PR does it causes them to blur together.

This is just a theory, but I think the reason Mike's dogtags protected Leo from the monsters freezing spell is because they were given out of love and positive feelings like love and happiness are supposed to ward off evil, or some spiel like that.
Of course, as I said, it's just a theory.

The moon having oxygen and an atmosphere is canon to Power Rangers since season 1
As they used footage of the Summerian planet from Zyuranger, to pass as the moon, showing an atmosphere when Rita escaped

So, there are two main theories that help this show work, neither are official but fit tonally.
1) The Z Wave wasn't as far reaching as they said. Whole universe was a bit of an exaggeration with the galaxy(and maybe a bit more) being a more realistic area.
2) When Kendrix died, the Quasar Saber was weakened by the lack of its Ranger to be able to be wielded by others.
It's also likely even if the Z-Wave could sweep the entire universe, some of bad guys who showed up afterwards probably weren't evil at the time or were not as evil as the guys who we saw get destroyed or cleansed.
Also i personally just assumed the guys who were sealed away somewhere probably just lucked out in the Z-Wave not having penetration power.

My understanding is that, since PRiS was such a big hit, they decided they wanted to do another space series to capitalize on it, and there was a gigantic turmoil of troubled production that messed a lot of stuff up.

I think at this point Zords is their word for Giant Mecha. Sorta like how Zombie shows keep on making dumb names for Zombies because the concept of Zombies never existed for them.

PR Lost Galaxy has a few coincidences that makes it an offshoot of Starship Troopers. Terra's military uniforms resembles Starship Troopers military uniform. The major villain is a humongous insect. Also the idea of both having people colonize in space. 🤷🏾♂️

Actually, Ed Neil play the human form of Lord Zedd. I wouldn’t have minded if Ed Neil took over the voice acting role of Lord Zedd, if the guy who played master swoop hadn’t become the permanent voice actor for him.
Gingaman was damn epic the Red Gingaman didn't need to that wimpy battlizer, he got the job done right. The ending was very epic

I don't think you'd be surprised to know that Lost Galaxy had a very troubled production. The Lights of Orion arc became a mess because during that time, they were still filming episodes a week before airdate. Valerie Vernon's unfortunate diagnosis derailed the original plan with the Galactic book/the lost galaxy. What we got was the attempt to retool the original plan.
If I’m not mistaken the Lights of Orion choose their owners based on goodness and not power levels. Hence why they chose the rangers and not the magna defender. Also once a Quasar Saber is pulled from the stone it becomes free game and anyone can wield it.
Zords are just assumed to be named after zordon, but not confirmed

Bruno of MMPR toys worked on PR during this and up to wild force. In one of his behind the scenes video he shows Saban’s Monster and megazord closet. Zords and monsters that weren’t used for filming, this video was made during Wild Force, were thrown about with little to no care while the wild force monsters and zords were cared for.

Power rangers was a part of my childhood. Starting from ninja storm to wild force to SPD to mystic force, unfortunately I had a falling out with the series when I attended high school, but recently I’ve been wanting to revisit the show now that I have the time to spare. Unfortunately I missed a lot, and mighty morphin ended way before I got into power rangers. The amount of episodes is overwhelming and I don’t think I have that kind of dedication. So I’m really glad to find your videos, this is exactly what I’m looking for, just perfect! Thank you, I really love this videos that you made, and I hope you keep making more about this series. They're the LOST GALAXY RANGERS!! Nowhere in rangers history are they called Quasar Rangers!!!! Their sabers are called Quasar that's it!!!

Question: does this mean that this is going to be your last video comparing Sentai and Power Rangers since from Lightspeed Rescue there is almost no continuity with the Zordon era (beyond the crossover you already talked about)? Personally, I would like you to continue, mainly because of the Japanese version of which I know so little, I like to see all the differences and difficulties of the American series to adapt it to Western culture. in addition to this hopefully you can also continue with videos about the different seasons prior to Zyuranger.
No - it's not the last one. But you're right - the continuity isn't as important anymore, so I will be mixing it up from here. Dino Thunder vs Abaranger is next.

In the wiki, they're called the Galaxy Rangers, which kinda make sense since their story does take place in space and try to keep it similar to Gingaman.

The thing about Super Sentai is that it's usually more consistent with it's various elements than Power Rangers would be. I find most Sentai better than Power Rangers anyway, but find the comparisons interesting anyway.

Great work on this video! My only disagreement is that I actually like the score of Lost Galaxy. Different strokes for different folks though.
I think the whole only those who are worthy can pull the swords only applies to when it was in the stone on the home planet of the yellow galaxy ranger but as soon as it is no longer in the stone anyone can hold the quasar swords!

They probably should’ve done an alternate universe plot for shows at this point. Have a weird science fiction worm hole open for the In Space crossovers and then leave it at that.
32:32 I believe the only explanation to how Karone is able to get to Onyx from Earth is that she probably had a ship of her own possibly one of the Velocifighters from her old Dark fortress that was probably upgraded and modified for long range deep space travel or a KO-35 ship, after all it was her’s and Andro’s people that built the Astro Megaship.

This is the first bad review of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy I have ever heard. It's nice to see a new perspective on this season. I personally like this season a lot, and I think it's one of the better seasons of Power Rangers. I wish you really got into Leo's journey of having to live up to his brother's legacy to honor his memory before his return as the Magna Defender. To me, that's one of the best storylines in the series. Love your work. Really well-thought-out video.
I say in conversation today that lost galaxy is my favorite PR season but you just made me realize I have no idea what happened during the entirety of the show
You probably already got told this, but Power Rangers was always able to make original Megazord footage. They did it once in Mighty Morphin' when the Thunderzords were destroyed.

I LOVE the Torozord!! I have been wanting to get my hands on that Zord for a long time. The Magna Defender was one of my favorite 6th rangers... though I'm not sure if they count him as a ranger or not.

Loved the video you brought up some great points about the power rangers lost galaxy that I never really thought off like why do they call then self's the lost galaxy rangers even though that's not where there powers come from lol. I still love the show regardless cause it's a child favorite but I do have to say I liked the music that you didnt like, cause if every show stuck with the rock themed music then we are stuck with a sound track that doesn't really evolve.
That just gave me an idea. Why didn’t Hasbro contact Ed Neil to voice Lord Zedd? my guess is, he was in his 30s when countdown to destruction aired.
